“Fabulous Family Holiday over New Year”
Reviewed January 11, 2014

We have just spent 10 days at the Verandah Resort. We are a family of 8 - grandparents, children and grandchildren - ages from 75 down to 11 years. The resort was absolutely perfect and catered for all our needs. The rooms were comfortable, restaurants excellent, staff very friendly and sports on the beach perfect for the children and adults alike. At such a busy time of year you could always get a group of beds on the beach and round the pool. We will definitely go back and would highly recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: for people with children, try and find a room near the pool so you can nip backwards and forwards.

Dear Valued Guests,

Thank you for your very positive comments about your recent stay at The Verandah Resort & Spa. We appreciate your taking the time to share your thoughts with us and review all comments as a way to continuously improve our guests' experience.

We are sorry that you were disappointed with some of the restaurants at various points during the day. We understand that dining is subjective and work very hard to present a wide variety of international and local dishes.

The staff at the resort are known for their genuine hospitality and gracious service. This is pointed out consistently in our guest surveys and online forums.

We do hope that when you are considering a sun-filled Caribbean vacation that we once again may host you.

I had the blessing of visiting this amazing property in November of 2013.
I thought often how I would share this property here on my beloved Tripadvisor and I was prepared to rush back and share my opinion. Life, however got in the way and time passed. What that has proven is that the proof is in the memory.

I had anticipated sharing the negatives as education sharing...but the truth is they escape me now. The only one that possibly may still be helpful in sharing is regarding the food. I was told the food was 5 star quality. It is not. The food was average. Sometimes it was excellent and sometimes it was....meh. I did manage to gain 7 pounds however, so please don't fret that anyone suffered the average food. Possibly my average is quite high and many were very pleased with the food - including my well loved but sometimes food fussy mother.

The staff were amazing! The property itself is lush and hilly offering multiple and multi level views of the ocean! My favorite positives are its proximity to Devil's Bridge - a STUNNING site that others had to travel over hill and vale...by car and foot to reach, affording them only a minute to exprience this STUNNING experience! I was blessed to be able to walk over EVERY day of my 8 day vacation...with children in tow. We would wander awe struck for hours!

The second location is Long Beach - STUNNING (yes I said it again) beach....nice size but flawlessly white sand - snorkeling of a small but pleasing stature - a reef to swim to and walk on or close to the beach rocky area to meander and enjoy. The walk is quick and easy and shaded enough to be comfortable. GO!

Our room was STUNNING! Primarily I refer to the view...which was "hillside" but offered unobstructed views of the ocean! I enjoyed MANY activities - paddle boarding, kayaking, sailing, billiards, mini golf etc...which is a blessing with small children! The hours of the restaurant were great the bar is open at 10am and I fully indulged in all sorts of available beverages and ALL were....here it is - STUNNING!

I don't drink Scotch but my family members who do were thrilled at the name brand and high quality. The amenities in room were perfect and the bathroom is simply lovely with a large tub and two sinks.

There are two beaches neither even touch Long beach but they provide their own perks so enjoy what they are and walk to the little slice of heaven a stones throw (STUNNING Long Beach). Lots of marine life at the one beach - be mindful when entering the water as we saw jelly fish and the second beach was the recreation area and everything was available! We did however, borrow snorkel gear and went to - yep - Long beach!
Towels great; coffee lovely; gym good; restaurant locations perfect;

The proof is in the memories and my memories are STUNNING!!
Feel free to message me with any questions I would love to share I had a wonderful vacation and we would hustle ourselves back there in a heartbeat! If nothing else just to see what I thought might be a negative !?!?!?!

Oh psst - as you arrive from the airport - a cold cloth for your brow and a glass of champagne or fruit punch - SIGH!

Room Tip: Quick email or call will help them to help you and they will!

I travelled here with my husband for our birthdays, his 63rd, my 60th. The hotel was fantastic, food was always excellent with plenty of choice at the restaurant and the bar staff work very hard, the drinks are all well known brands, not locally produced labels. My husband spent the whole holiday drinking Glen Livet single malt whisky, he was in his element. Sandra and her team at the main bar deserve a pat on the back. Mickey (Happy) made sure the pool area was spotless every day, this guy never sits still, always doing something and always with a smile on his face, just don't mention West Ham football club's league position. The beaches, both of them are cleaned of the seaweed (which is blown in by the prevailing wind every day) and are lovely and clean, plenty of sunbeds and activities if you want them, we chose just to chill every day. The small beach near reception is the quietest, but neither are noisy or rowdy. Rooms are cleaned every day and towels changed daily if you want it. We also met a lot of lovely people, English, Americans and Canadians, all in all a lovely holiday, here's to the next one.

Room Tip: We paid for a sea view room, but there are plenty of nice rooms facing the main pool.

January 2014.
Our family of 4 has just returned from 10 days holiday taking in Christmas and returning to UK in time for New Year. This was our 3rd ‘all inclusive style’ Christmas a/o New Years break in the Caribbean and our 1st visit to Antigua.
The style and landscaping of the Verandah Spa Hotel is very pleasant with accommodation mostly in one double bedroomed semi detached bungalows. We had two of these together and each one had a large bathroom (bath with overhead shower, two wash basins and w.c.). The main room in each was divided between sleeping area with King sized double bed plus a living area with sofa bed and kitchenette. Outside was a fairly large balcony/verandah overlooking the sea.
The room was cleaned by maid service every day, new towels could be replaced every day but would be renewed every other day (i think is correct).
There are two pools. The adult pool is quite small and is little more than a plunge pool but had a quiet and relaxing mood to it. There was no pool bar here but there was a cold water dispenser and lemonade.
The main pool is very large and even though the hotel was full the pool was never over crowded. Only on very few occasions did it appear that the sun beds were all taken. From the main pool it is just a few steps to the main bar.
Both pools always appeared totally clean and inviting. If you prefer to lounge about at the beach there are two. The Rasta Beach was fairly quiet although there was a Beach Volley Ball court roped out, plus it has its own bar. Just a few steps away from here is the 18 hole mini golf course and a couple of Tennis Courts. (we didn’t play tennis but the courts looked good). At the far end of the Hotel property is the main beach. Its not particularly big and there were many sun beds but this beach does offer the water sports facilities and what appears to be safe swimming within the buoyed area. Even on this Atlantic cast the water was a comfortable temperature.
Being on the North East coast we did experience far more breeze than on previous holidays to the western coasts of St Lucia/Barbados but the breeze here was never a problem (the only storm blew through during one night ! big time ). During our 10 days we had 7-8 days when there was plenty of sun. One day had no wind at all and was particularly hot, so it was a relief when the breeze grew again.
There are 4 restaurants. The main restaurant is called ‘Seabreeze’ and this where you have a buffet breakfast, lunch and dinner. The style within ‘Seabreeze’ was very relaxed and probably very comfortable for families with younger children, but at lunch time one particular benefit here was the speed with which you could have lunch and get back to the sun bed ! ‘Buccaneer’s is right next door and is opened for dinners with an ‘a la carte’ style. This restaurant had a really pleasant feel to it and with a smaller clientele (than Seabreeze) the staff were able to give a more attentive service. Overlooking the Honeymoon Beach was the Beach Bar and Grill which was our favourite for lunch. In the bar area you sit on bar stools overlooking the sea and to the side is the restaurant area where guests sat at tables. Lunch here could get crowded so service could be slow but on other occasions it was really quick. The top restaurant was ‘Nicoles’ which again was a la carte but with more sumptuous surroundings and more expensive dishes but there was a supplement of US$ 30 per head. The wine was the same as served everywhere else. Whether the premium paid is value for money is debateable but you do get better dishes and you have to pay for the finer ambience. That we went back for more maybe says more than words can. One criticism here is that this restaurant only opens about 3 days per week which is a disappointing if finer dining is your thing and likely as not this then puts pressure on demand for ‘Buccaneers’. You book the restaurants one day ahead and the booking office opens at 7a.m. if you want to go to ‘Nicoles’ you must get down to the booking office before 7 or you risk not getting in. (this was our experience for the Christmas Eve sitting but maybe this peak demand also occurs on other top dates, eg New Years Eve, Easter ??)
Service was good throughout, and particularly good in places. I realise it’s unfair to name names since there are too many good staff to compliment but Toyaline in the Buccaneer’s and Nicole’s restaurants, and Christopher the Maitre’d in Buccaneer’s were so nice to us.
We have read so many complaints about the slow service and rudeness of staff in this hotel and other hotels and we find it hard to take. Noticeably at the bars so many guests fail to use a ‘please’ or a ‘thank you’ or even a smile. Service time at Verandah’s is no different to the UK. No one was rude to us and on the contrary we will happily recommend this hotel because of the comfortable atmosphere created by the staff. By design the hotel grounds are quite linear which could result in having to walk from one end of the grounds to the other. We found the walk beneficial between so many meals. There are staff with electric buggies to transport guests around the hotel but unless you have your suitcases we found this unnecessary.
At the main lobby there was also a gift shop which sold all items that you might need for a summer beach holiday. We read one complaint that there were no cigars for sale ? can you be serious ?
We did not leave the confines of the hotel so we cannot advise of the different sights. This part of Antigua is not particularly scenic but within the grounds of the hotel that was never a problem for us with the lush Palms and shrubs growing throughout.
Would recommend the early morning stretch class with Loreal or Shannon, great fun!
We met people who have stayed at the Hotel before and obviously returned, is that a good enough recommendation ?!

Room Tip: Our rooms were by the adult pool (413/414) which we felt were fine for everything as it gave us a fe...

My husband and I spent eight wonderful days here. Service was impeccable and the staff made certain we had a great vacation.
The cottage style room while not the fanciest, was immaculate, had a porch with an ocean view and sitting area with pullout couch. The room could easily accommodate a family with children. Food was good and menus varied. Great pools, beach, fitness center..quiet spots possible as well as lots of activities. We definitely would return and recommend.

The hotel is situated in lovely grounds. The staff are polite and helpful - Lauri made sure that we received first-class service throughout. The room was spacious and clean. The food and drink overall were excellent - I especially liked the Beach Bar for lunch and Nicole's for dinner. The New Year's Party was fun - with some great acts and pumping music. We danced in the New Year. It is easy to feel at home quite quickly at the hotel, which I think offers value for money. Thanks - Guys - for a great time!

The bed was hard as a rock. The staff was not friendly or pleasant. Food wasn't great. Entertainment and gym were lame. Beach was tiny. Very skimpy with booze in drinks. Not worth the money at all. The only fair thing was the view from our room, but I've seen much better views on postcards too :<

Room Tip: stay at another resort on another island
