Everything we wanted and more. Beaches great, pool enormous, beach activities all free, quiet gym, great spa, fantastic for kids with a club to keep them occupied away from us couples!
Surroundings quiet and planting fantastic with banana trees, and hummingbirds and clean beaches. Staff the friendliness I have ever met in such a resort

Room Tip: pay a little extra for a waterview - otherwise all rooms are the same - great

We spent one week in July on Veranda, and my only regret that it was not a longer vacation.

Beach - main beach is small but beatiful sandy one, with calm and clear water, free sailing lessons, canoes and paddle boards to grab. Great for kids. The second beach is really small and almost never used - but if you want to go snorkeling, it would be a better choice than the main beach. The beaches are never crowded, which is a big plus. The lounge chairs were always available, and beach staff goes to great length to provide a great service. One more (public) beach is just across the street, another 5-7 minutes walk from the reception. It is bigger, but then, you have to pay for the chairs, if you are going to use them.

Rooms - basic, but clean and functional. Each one of them has a view of ocean, because the suites are build on the hills, so even the "hillside" suites have an ocean view. We had room 273 - far side of the hotel, but two minutes from the main beach, two minutes from the restaurants and main bar. We had a couple of glitches on the last day (toilet not flushing, A/c stopped working), but those were fixed really fast, so no real complaints there.

Hotel layout - hills. A lot of them. Which is great if you want to lose some "all inclusive calories", but not so convenient for people with disabilities or families with very young kids. The shuttle golf carts will take you everywhere, so sometimes where we were too tired after tennis game (!), we would wait at the reception for a cart to take us to our room. Decadent, I know.
The cart would not go down to the beach, though - the only way to go down is to use the stairs (losing the calories, yep!)

Food - excellent choice for breakfast and lunch, more random for dinner (The International and French nights were really great, the Caribbean was less so). We went to "a la carte" restuarant one night, didn't like it at all, and were stuck with buffet - which was a good choice 80% of the time. Beach bar food is a reasonable alternative, if if you want to grab something in between scheduled meal times. By the way - buffet restaurant always has a choice of ice cream , but you have to ask for it - the same way you ask for your coffee. And do ask for your capuccino in the morning, it is better than their regular coffee.

Drinks - we are not big drinkers, just a couple of coctails a day, to get a taste of all inclusive. The service at the main bar is consistently better than at the beach bar - more professional, more ingredients available, more friendly.

Service - good, but not outstanding. Some staff were not that friendly (mainly bartenders), but it was rather an exception.
Crowd - mainly European / British. Not too many families with kids, a lot of couples (anniwersaries and honeymoons).

Nigh life - almost non-existent. If you want your night entertainment shows, Verandah does not have those. It's just life music and drinks (some people would dance, but that's about it). We don't really care for night life - too exhausted by 10 pm anyway and prefer to catch the morning waves, so for us it didn't really matter.

Location - 5 minutes walk to Devil's Bridge. It is actually on the hotel property, and it is an absolute fantasic view. Please do not miss. Just go (from the main beach) in the late afternoon, when it's not too hot. Otherwise, the location is really secluded. You might rent the car or book one of the trips, organized by the hotels (our choice).
Trips - good choice of activities. We went for Stingray city, Eco tour (Hell Gates), and went to Barbuda for a day. Each one of them was excellent. People who went for shopping tours to St John were sligtly disappointed, but other than that I heard only great review of any other tour/trip.
Would I recommend it to my friends? Absolutely yes.
Would I go back? No, but only because there are so many other places that I have never been to!

Room Tip: HIllside rooms in general require less walking than oceanview.

Went for 2 weeks in June and did not want to go home, the place was spotlessly clean, hotel staff were very friendly and helpful, the food was good, nothing was too much trouble.

The surroundings were idyllic, mongooses roaming around, humming birds outside your window and beautiful clear blue waters.

Everything you could want for a relaxing, friendly, welcoming holiday.

Room Tip: Choose a waterfront room, nearer all the amenities and a glorious view.

This year was my second visit to The Verandah resort and spa, and once again I had a blissful holiday.

The Verandah has large suites, (unlike a lot of resorts which just have normal rooms) the suites have a large King size bed, lounge area, kitchenette and large balcony. They are very comfortable and spacious.

The pool and beach areas are clean and lovely to kick back and relax. And the main beach watersports are great fun.... we used the kayaks and went out on a Hobie Cat with one of the staff.... the watersports staff remembered our names and were very friendly!

You can also walk up to Devil's Bridge which is right next to the resort... it is a lovely view up there and is nice to get some fresh sea breeze.

The cocktail making class at the Rasta Beach Bar with Qwame was great fun, and we got to try lots of different liquers!

The bars offer a whole host of included drinks and cocktails, and at the main bar, one of the waiters in particular, Justin is attentive, friendly and always topping up our drinks!

The main dinner buffet is a different theme every night, offering a huge variety of choice for everyone.... even me! ( a very fussy eater!)

On our last night, me and my boyfriend booked into Nicole's fine dining restaurant for our anniversary.... this was gorgeous, a lovely romantic setting, with a live pianist. The menu was just divine.... and the calamari in particular was out of this world! The service was second to none in Nicole's, and I would definitely recommend it as a treat.

I would definitely recommend the Verandah in Antigua and will definitely be going back!

Room Tip: If you want to splash out, choose a waterfront view for a spectacular view of the gorgeous bay.

Ok Strange review this one this review as I would go back as the Island and the Verandah as the service and the resort were all very good. The one cautionary note is we usually go Adults only. This holiday would confirm why we chose to do so given the volume of children, too many for us. That said, if you go with kids it is safe and child friendly and I would recommend it. The rooms (Villas) are well equipped, although confused why at an all inclusive there is a microwave and a toaster!!! The shower is ill designed and soaks the entire bathroom every time you use it.

Verandah management team please take note and rectify the following to make our scores even better and these would have made our stay perfect. My intent is positive.

1. Make sure the bar is well stocked. On various times during our two week stay, it ran out of Strawberry for various drinks 4 times. Beer once. Orange juice one. Milk twice. Hot Water that took 30 minutes to replenish. The bar team seem to hate letting guests down. Kyla, you were a little stern, but once we got to know you we were the best. Other bar tenders had a real attitude, remember why you are there I suggest.
2. There is no pool waiter service or clear up service. There needs to be one, this is a mistake on the management's part nit to have this in place.
3. Rooms cleaned as late as 4.30 some days is too late.
4. The entrainment needs to be on a two week rotation, not one. We saw all the entertainers twice, on exactly the same night both weeks. I assume the resort is aimed at the US market and they tended to go for one week. We spoke to many and they said this was true.
5. Same with the food, same rotation week on week.
6. Buccaneers - you had to book for. This always frustrates me, everyone should get the same standard of food, its what we paid for. The standard of the evening food is what lets the Verandah down the most I am afraid, cheap come to mind which is a real shame as the entire catering and service team try their best to please. Debra T in the restaurants was awesome, thank you so much for looking after us.
7. Nicole's is very nice, but the 30 dollar surcharge is unnecessarily high.
8. The way you are seated in the main restaurant is crazy. Hello, room number? Follow me. What what you like to drink? Back to the desk for the next customer. Why does one person do everything, this just causes a very slow seating service.
9. They mixed corporate with vacation clients, this is very very wrong as it meant vacation guests had very long queues for food. I suggest you use Buccaneers to keep the corporate separate please.
10. Check in service was appalling. Granted our plane was two hours late, but we were made to stand in the 4pm heat for best part of an hour to be checked in. Reception staff in no hurry and did not apologise for making us wait after an 8 hour flight.

One reviewer said about the frogs at night, yes they are noisy, but they are part of the charm. With the doors shut you cannot hear them too much.

Even after all of the above observations, we had an amazing holiday and would recommend the Verandah. The staff and the location where what made this holiday so very special.

Room Tip: Be careful when booking rooms, sea front and sea view are NOT the same. Some sea view rooms were obs...

Ignore all the negative reviews, stay here if you possibly can. Is this hotel perfect?...no...but the minor issues are far and away outweighed by the positive aspects. Plenty of choice of food in the restaurants, a different theme each night and lots of choices within that theme, plus an a la carte restaurant most nights and Nicoles which you pay extra for but is very nice. Fantastic amount of food and choice for breakfast and lunch too. I struggled to see how previous reviewers could be unhappy with standard of food. So many other positives but a few highlights for me include... wonderful crazy golf brilliant for all ages.... 2 lovely beaches offering different experiences and a beautiful main pool all with plenty of loungers!!... fantastic cocktails (they definitely don't scrimp on the alcohol at the verandah) and my personal favourite a brilliant aqua aerobic session each morning led by the enthusiastic and hilarious Shannon. in fact Shannon popped up at a lot of the scheduled activities (of which there are many) and was a lot of fun at all of them a great hit with young and old...if you find yourself at the Verandah go and check out his activities and say hi....you won't regret it. So treat yourself to a fantastic relaxing holiday here...chill out accept that everything might not get done on your time and exactly in your way but you will have an amazing holiday none the less.

Room Tip: Ask for a Waterfront room. Spectacular views.

Robert, Thank you for the opportunity to respond to our recent stay at The Verandah Resort! Our stay was fantastic! I can't thank you enough for this vacation! It's been seven years since our last vacation and we needed one! The resort was fantastic! We loved our cottage and our rooms! The facility was very nicely kept and always clean. There were probably just two things that I would suggest. The private beech needs food. Something or anything would be great! Something simple like hot dogs or hamburgers. The volleyball court is there and when your done playing there's nothing but the bar. Also the Adult Pool would be a little nicer if there was some drinks. Soda or Iced Tea! It's a short walk to the main bar, but you feel like your being penalized for being at the adult pool. The staff is wonderful! I can't say enough about how kind, friendly and helpful they all are. From the dinning room staff, the check in staff, the recreation staff, even the house keeping staff. Everything and anything we asked for was taken care of by everyone. All you have to do is ask! Noel, Desa and Charma stand out in our minds and will be long remembered! In conclusion, after my wife went through breast cancer a couple years ago and yet still finished her college education, we wanted to do something with our two daughters who are in their 20's and have also just finished college. The Verandah was perfect for us! We had the vacation of a life time and we will remember it forever! Thank you! The Stow Family

Room Tip: Ocean from rooms are wonderful! Rooms 165-180 are the best.
