“Lovely resort with a few niggles”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 25, 2013

We arrived at the resort and found the surroundings lovely. Our accommodation was a bungalow type building, furnishings and bathroom a little dated. Mattress was rock hard so had to request a mattress topper. We found the food substantial and varied although the desserts weren't always topped back up. Staff on the whole, friendly and helpful. Nightime entertainment okay. Please do not leave any valuables lying around the room as my daughters mobile phone was stolen, remember to use the safe provided. One morning we found there was no hot water for showers so had to be transferrred to another room. On the whole, a lovely resort but would try another hotel if we visited Antigua again.

traveling with husband and 4 teenagers aged 15 - 19 . lovely holiday in December 2012 - weather super - fantastic beach and pool. Was not expecting a great deal as usually stay in 5 star hotels and had never done all inclusive. I was very pleasantly surprised - the food was excellent - staff extremely friendly. Spa and massages were of a very high standard. all in all an excellent relaxing family holiday. Took 2 trips - swimming with the stingrays [our rep made sure we booked a day when no cruise ships were in] it was fantastic a real life experience and also chartered a private yacht for the day.Jabawoki [name of the yacht] is owned by 2 lovely brits who are living their dream - they gave us a fabulous day with a super lunch while we snorkelled with sea turtles. Totally recommend both trips.

Room Tip: beach front but nearer to beach

The Verandah is a good hotel in a great location. It is a really nicely laid out resort and we stayed in a waterfront room which was fab.

The room was a good size and had a decent bed as well as tea and coffee making it also had a microwave and fridge ... strange but useful. The broadband in the room was very poor and expensive and was not quick enough to stream so not really worth the expense. TV had good channels and was a nice add on but hardly used as in all holidays :)

The hotel had 5 restaurants all open at different times and evenings the main buffet open all day and the food was okay with breakfast being the best. The restaurants in the evening were again ok nothing was outstanding or poor but it was all inclusive so to be expected.

The beach bar had decent snacks, the bars were all ok with good cocktails, the rum punch being pretty strong :) however service in all areas was mediocre at best and at times the stay in the bars were just rude.

The Beaches were really relaxing and there were ample Sun Beds the main beach didnt have a bar but did have ice boxes delivered once a day with soft drinks and beer in, if sun worshippers like us then you will have to leave the beach at 4 ish at this time of year to stay in the sun.

The holiday was good value for money but it had potential to be more just as we found the Grand Pineapple Resort in Antigua.

We would return if the price was right.

Thankyou for your comments, it always makes our day to read a guest enjoyed the resort and facilities. We apologise that you found the broadband to be inefficient for streaming, we are reliant on the local service provider, so we are sorry if during your visit the service was patchy. We are sorry to read that you found the customer service to be mediocre and the bar staff rude. All our staff have regular customer service training, so it is disappointing to read of your experience. All your comments will be passed onto the appropriate Management team. Thank you for staying with us at The Verandah Resort we hope to welcome you back in the future.

We stayed 7-18 January on an All-Inclusive basis.
We were welcomed with a rum punch and whisked to our room on one of the golf carts that are always about to give lifts around the resort.
We were very impressed with our room - semi detached bungalow with shared front porch and very large private verandah.
On entering, the bathroom is on one side. The bathroom was huge - with a very large bath, shower screen and shower over. There were 2 sinks with large mirror over and a toilet.
2 hotel robes were provided and the bathroom had been decorated with flowers.

The main room was split into a sleeping area with over-sized king bed and air con above. There was a built in wardrobe, bedside tables and 6 large drawers. The other half was the living area with sofa, chair & coffee tables and a ceiling fan over. We were surprised to find a kitchenette with fridge, sink, microwave and coffee machine (complete with coffee bags, creamer, sugar and teabags which were replaced daily). Patio doors lead off from the living area and there was a huge verandah, with table and chairs. We sat here and saw hummingbirds and others, just a few feet away.

The food was very good at the Verandah Resort. We tried both the a la Carte restaurants - the Beach Bar & Brill and Buccaneers - both are included in the All Inclusive. We didn't go to Nicole's, for which you have to pay extra. The a la Cartes were nice - but the buffet was unbeatable and we would go there every night if we went again.
Every evening was a different theme - such as Caribbean, Italian, Mexican, etc. but there was far more than just the themed food. There was always some type of fish dish, plenty of different vegetarian options and every sort of meat. There were multiple salad dishes, soup, carving station, kids food (like hotdogs, breaded chicken, fries, etc), rices, all sorts of different vegetables, a huge choice. Breakfasts were equally fantastic. We didn't have lunch very often as we found we simply couldn't manage another meal! If you felt hungry during the day the beach bar & grill was always available and there was daily afternoon tea/coffee and sandwiches/cakes.
We enjoyed the Verandah's own rum cockails - but you could have practically any drink.

We enjoyed the watersports at the main beach and also relaxing at the quieter Rasta Bar beach.
The main pool, although not our thing, was a massive free form pool and looked great.
There was also a 24hr air conditioned gym, should you need it!

Other activities included were a great newly-built 18-hole crazy golf course, which we enjoyed, 2 tennis courts, outdoor pool, table tennis and shuffleboard (we never did find out what this was!).
The hotel run a daily activities timetable with all sorts - cooking demonstrations, gym workouts, aquarobics, walks to the local national park, sports tournaments, etc.

There was also a dedicated adults only pool.

The hotel grounds are beautifully kept and, as it was breezy during out stay and comfortable (although sunny and 28 degrees) we walked everywhere. Nowhere is more than a few hundred metres but you can catch a lift on the golf cart or even ring up to ask it to come and get you!

Just out from the end of the main beach is the Devil's Bridge National Park - which we went to 3 times in total, at different times of day. As it was quite windy the first week it was quite a spectacle.
We also did the Eco Tour to the North Sound - a good day out. We took our own taxi to visit Nelson's Dockyard and Shirley Heights on a quite Friday afternoon, both of which were worth a visit.

We had a fantastic holiday and really enjoyed this resort, which has been well designed and nicely looked-after. The food was excellent, staff very helpful and the activities great. We would definitely return.

Room Tip: If you have children you might want to be nearer to the main pool. Although this is near the restau...

This is not a four star hotel for although the staff are excellent and the rooms are four star the dinning facilities are canteen standard. It is very much a family resort and NOT for couples.
The dinning facilities and standard of food is the most disappointing for although there is an al la cart restaurant this is not available every night and even when it is available you have to book a day before which does effect the possibility of a relaxed holiday. Although the hotel brochures give the idea of quality i,e dress codes for dinning, these are not enforced as most guests from Canada totally ignored these rules and I have NEVER in my life heard such bad language from guests. The cleanliness in the buffet restaurant urgently need attention, for not only did we have bird dropping on chairs and table but also cockroaches running across the floor. The major plus is the quality of staff as they could not be more helpful and friendly.

Room Tip: All rooms are the same but the water front ones have the best views

We are delighted you enjoyed your room and had received such good customer service, we work hard to deliver an excellent standard so it is great feedback when we hear we have achieved this. We are sorry you were so disappointed with the quality and standard of the food on offer. We do offer a range of dining options, with the restaurant schedule allowing guests to enjoy 4 dining experiences within a week. We do have a dress code which we ask all our guests to adhere to and it is meant to be enforced by the restaurant staff. We are sorry if you found that this was not the case and some guests were not dressing appropriately. Thank you for bringing this to our attention. The restaurant work hard to keep the tables and chairs clean at all times, we are aware of the birds flying into the restaurant and have set up several measures to manage this. All your points will be shared with Management, thank you for taking the time to share your feedback.

We are writing this from the resort having just arrived. It is decent enough but clearly a 3-star at best. Our really big issue is that we were lied to by the cops orate owners form whom we bought this trip. A waterfront room is NOT on the water. We were promised two rooms but received only one, etc. a case for the Attorneys General of Texas where we live and Florida where their headquarters and reservation people are.
If you go, check, check and check to be sure what you're getting.

We returned for our annual visit to Verandah and found that they had somehow managed to improve on their already wonderful resort. The new chef knows his stuff and we found the meals to be excellent. The expanded beach bar provides the best view on the island and now more of us can enjoy it. We tried it one evening for dinner and thought it was a great alternative to the other three restaurants. Entertainment seemed a bit more conservative this year and we appreciated that; who needs loud rock music when sipping pina coladas under the stars? The views from our verandah in the morning were spectacular and we can't get enough of taking pictures of the water and the frequent rainbows. The staff is still their greatest asset and they were unfailing in their courtesy, friendliness and service. Is there anything I'd wish to be better? Well, yes, two things. Typical of the Caribbean, they seem to think it's ok to serve red wine at room temperature of about 75 degrees. The staff will put a bottle briefly on ice but we should not have to ask. And, the bath soap is not the same as before. They remind me of a chain hotel and we had to squash dinky four bars together to get a decent-sized bar for our shower. So with those two things, compared to the view, room, food, service and beach, I'd say the bottom line is that Verandah is still heaven on earth and a place we'll return to, every year!

Room Tip: Ask for 365-370 for the best view. And they are near the beach, beach bar and main pool.
