“Relaxing but Dated”
Reviewed April 7, 2013

We just returned from Jolly Beach Resort.... very disappointing to say the least.. I `ve been to many resorts who claim to be 3 stars but i have to disagree. Very old resort and is mismanged. We witnessed many in fighting with staffers in from of guests, seems know one wants to work and watch each other to see who is doing the least amount. ran out beach towels ,shower towels and of dishes and glass at every meal.. ask for something and that person always passed it to someone else...than forgot what they were doing.Food was blan and sometimes cold. Staff not friendly.. asked if they liked what they were doing?.. and they say nothing. The best part of the holiday was the beach..one of the nicest i`ve seen. Only a handfull of staff care about the guests..one being the night bar tender Neal and Jolene the waitress.

Room Tip: be sure to get your towels when they clean your room.

My wife and I stayed at Jolly Beach for 10 nights. We knew what to expect as my son had stayed here previously.
So, our first impression was that the resort was a bit tired. Our room was small but adequate, everything worked so we were happy, after all, how much time do you want to spend in your room? The view from our room was wonderful, we looked right out to sea and a beautiful sunset.

The main bar was open from 10.30 am till late and the pool bar from 10.30 till the pool closed. Both could have benefitted from having more staff and or more blenders for making cocktails as this was what caused the delays. We found all the staff to be jovial and polite.

The buffet was usually well stocked and well managed but we did find it frustrating having to wait to be seated when there were plenty of tables that just needed re-setting after use. The three other restaurants were the Italian, Indian and Lydia's for local cuisine. All very nice but if you like Indian food don't expect it to be authentic.

We found all the staff very friendly and cheerful, always happy to engage in conversation and have a laugh. Shantle, one of the waitresses was exceptionally pleasant and helpful.

The evening entertainment was of quite a high standard compared to other resorts we've been to. The Ideal Couple competion was a real hoot.

My husband and I stayed at Jolly Beach Resort & Spa for 8 nights and Jennifer Jacobs who worked mainly during the evening shifts helping guests plan their day trips. She was wonderfully honest and gave us details of each trip and costs. She also was wonderfully helpful in advising us the local "bus" routes helping us save money over the huge cost difference of taking a taxi.
Jennifer was especially helpful in letting us know the local traditions and local places to go as to experience the local fare and experiences. We both highly recommended Jennifer in helping you do your planning. Just make sure you ask for her in the late afternoon, or after dinner at Jolly Beach.
Because of her, we plan to return to Jolly Beach in a few months for the relaxing beach life and water sports.

Room Tip: Ask for a higher ground room and further away from the main dinning area because the outdoor bar and...

We checked in after putting our yacht on the hard at the marina for just one night.

The room was adequate, The food quality and quantity good and the wine and drinks flowed freely.

It was great for a short stay with wonderful beach and sunset views. Too long and you would have to cut back on food and drink.

The staff were by and large friendly and helpful.

Room Tip: Not overlooking the common areas - too noisy

We travel 1-2 each year and always all-inclusive. This resort was the worst resort we have ever been to!!! After checking in we were taken to our rooms which were okay but we had to go back to checkin to get safe key, towel cards and a map of the property (reception had forgotten to give to us). One bar during the day and was only open until 11-5pm it was small and had 3 bartenders and one blender to share between them all. Lines were long to get a cocktail the majority of the staff not friendly. Housekeeping staff was very kind and friendly. They need to switch their staff around. They ran out of dishes, glasses and sodas at the buffets. We had to ask every single meal for someone to fill up ice and get sodas and some days we were bought drinks and others we were simply told they were out. Our A/C in our room was broken and we had to call three times for repair. Alarm clock broken and had to be replaced. Refrigerator in room was broken(repaired twice) and my daughters medication (which had to be refrigerated) was frozen which had to be discarded. This infuriated me because when I addressed this with Management it was nothing to them!!! Bed linens were not always available to the housekeepers. Not one person that we talked to while staying at this resort would recommend this resort. I spoke with two different managers at this resort regarding all the troubles we encountered they were prompt about getting sending someone out to get things taken care of in the room. Okay for the positive...Beach was lovely at this resort

After returning from a 1 week vacation in Punta Cana with a group of 12, I felt exhausted and needed another vacation just to relax. My sister and I found a GREAT deal at the Jolly Beach Resort and jumped at it. Sooooo glad we did. We both came back feeling refreshed and relaxed. It is a small resort, but that is what I was looking for. The beach is amazing, the food was good, the staff were very friendly. Yes, it is an older resort, the rooms are small, but you must remember, it is not a 5 star resort. It is a good 3 star. For $901.00 including taxes, flight, accomodations, food, and drinks, you really can't go wrong. We met several wonderful people at the resort and everyone was having a great time. Bring your own drink cups though, their's are very small and you will end up going back and forth to the bar if you don't bring your own. Antigua is a very safe island to travel. My sister and I had no problems touring off the resort. The local bus system is safe and reliable, and cheap. $1.50 each to get to St. John's. The full day on a 71' catamaran was the highlight of my trip. I would highly recommend anyone do this. You get a wonderful full day on the water and you go around the entire island. By far, the Jolly Beach is the best beach on the island. In summay, if you are looking for luxury, this is not the place to go, however, if you want some sun and sand, a relaxing vacation - then this is the place. The Jolly Beach Resort and Spa is as much as you want it to be, or as little as you want it to be. It's up to you to make your vacation what you want it to be.

We arrived during an afternoon of rain. We easily found the St. James rep and she quickly found a van to take us to the hotel. The driver was quite entertaining. Then we arrived at the hotel. We checked in and were told that our room was not yet ready. Apparently, no one's room was ready. Approximately 50 of us were told to check back at the desk in 15 minutes. We were sent to the grill and stood in the rain for 20 minutes waiting for hamburgers. We checked back at the desk after 30 minutes and were told to check back in 10 minutes. Apparently rain is unusual because there was not enough sheltered areas for us to wait. Two and one-half hours after our arrival, we finally had a room. While waiting, I spoke with couples who had no towels in their rooms, unsafe ceiling fans, and only one room when two were reserved.
After check in, things improved. There were not always beach towels, plates in the buffet, or spoons....but the beach was beautiful. The ocean was amazing. The staff was nice. The room was clean and the air conditioning worked. It was a very cheap vacation, so we were not expecting much. However, I do not see us returning.
