“Beyond Amazing”
Reviewed June 23, 2014

My first trip to Antigua. Cocobay was beyond my expectations. The staff were so wonderful and could not do enough to make sure that you had a fab time. Melissa, Sonia, Davern and Mr Gore were just the main people I remember but they were all amazing. The place is immaculately clean and the food and drink were perfect. The first holiday that I did not want to go home from. Already in discussions about when we can do back next year.

Room Tip: The rooms with just a ceiling fan would be too hot for me. We chose one with air conditioning and it...

Cocobay in Antigua was our first stop in the Caribbean and the place really exceeded our expectations, even though they were pretty high in the first place. When arriving, there was a mix-up with our reservations so we had to stay in a smaller room the first night. The first room was nice but when we saw our "real" room, we were overwhelmed. We stayed in the Tamarind cay, a beautiful cottage with sea view, our own plunge pool, hammock, sunbeds and chairs and a bath tub. The bath room was spacious and clean and the bed very comfortable. It's rare that you enjoy your hotel rooms so much, we stayed there a lot during our week in Cocobay - sun bathing in our perfectly tempered pool, reading in the sunbeds or having a drink overlooking the ocean on the veranda.
The food was good and well prepared, but we recommend everybody to visit Sheer rocks restaurant at least one time.
If you are an animal lover, you absolutely have to visit the donkey sanctuary a 20 min drive away from Cocobay. Beautiful animals and you can support the organization by adopting a donkey for 25 USD.
Our deepest recommendations.we had a lovely time at Cocobay.

Room Tip: Opt for a room with a pool and sea view.

Antigua warning: when flying to Antigua via American Airlines (from Miami) pack your swimsuit! Our luggage was "delayed" a day.
Apparently this is a common problem with the Miami airport. Everyone in Antigua was sympathetic and did everything they could to accommodate us and it didn't bother us much at all in heinsight, probably because the hotel was so accommodating.

Words cannot describe how perfect this trip was! Anyone that has given this place a bad review must just not like beaches or demands service over friendly people.

Everyone that works here insists on you relaxing, and asking how your day is going. The environment as a whole was incredibly relaxing.

We had a print off in our room that had all the information some previous negative posts said they didn't have access to (meal times, events, etc.....)

Somedays we went to the the more public beach to the north, other days we would spend alternating between the private beach, our plunge pool, and bath tub.

I don't want to give away too much but they do many special throughout your stay to make it special.

You MUST try to tasting menu at the sheer rocks restaurant!

We would recommend this place to anyone!

O'Neal and all of his staff are truly wonderful. My wife and I cam here for our honeymoon and will be back without any shadow of a doubt. It is difficult to find any fault at all. The bar staff are truly wonderful and take the time to get to know you. The ladies who cook the eggs in the morning do so with a huge smile on their face. The quality of the food and drink is superior to any other all-inclusive I have ever experienced. I feel blessed to have visited.

Room Tip: Spend the extra and get the best room you can afford.

My husband and I just got back from our seven night stay at Cocobay. I had done lots of research before arriving so I knew what a wonderful place it would be. Even after reading the reviews and seeing all of the pictures, I was still blown away. When you pull up to the resort, you will be so glad that you chose Cocobay!

We chose to take the private transfer to the hotel and I would highly recommend that. Everyone else is shuttled by large vans and the private transfer allows you to unwind with just the two of you. When you arrive you are greeted with the friendliest staff. They are willing to take you on a tour or let you go straight to your room (we wanted to go straight to our room to see that amazing view!). We stayed in a premium waterfront suite and I HIGHLY recommend it if you are able. The plunge pool provides the perfect way to relax after a day at the beach. The views are unbelievable!

One thing I will add about our arrival is that we were one of about 20 people that arrived to the airport to find that our luggage did not make it to Antigua. I luckily had packed a swimsuit in my carry on, but that was about it! They did have a gift shop with the essentials, including suits, but they are sparse and pricey. So, I recommend packing a swimsuit and some essentials to get you through the next day.

After circumnavigating the island we quickly became aware that our beach was not the greatest. It does it's job though; sand, beautiful water, and lots of options to explore. I would recommend spending some time at the other beaches while you are there too. The infinity pools make up for what the beach lacks though! That was where we spent most of our time. They even provide floats for you to relax on.

Overall, our experience was perfect. The resort itself was so beautifully manicured and very well taken care of. The staff was so wonderful and accommodating (The bartenders even start to know your drink of choice!) If you are looking for a quiet, beautiful, and romantic resort, then Cocobay is definitely the place for you.

We have just returned from Cocobay after a two week holiday.
This resort is just perfect. Stunning location along the bay with three lovely beaches all within a short stroll from the room.
Although it's difficult to explain exactly what is so good about the holiday in so short a format, the one thing that you can be 100% sure of is that the people working there are just the nicest, kindest people you could wish to meet.
The journey from the airport is about 25 minutes.
The cottages are perfectly imperfect! The one we had (42) was at the end of the resort, views of the sea, the hills and the local church.
The main room is lovely, bed very comfortable, air con and fan which both worked well without noise.
No Telly in the room which was fine by us.
The bathroom needs to be updated, the tiling isn't great and the plug to the shower is at the high point so the water goes out through the door. They were updating some rooms whilst we were there so I am sure the bathroom will be sorted very soon. Anyway, when you are in Antigua at such a lovely friendly place, why worry about it.
The bars and restaurant are great, local beer which was refreshing, the spirits and cocktails were also excellent.
The food is great,
Breakfast is as usual is a buffet with traditional eggs & bacon etc with pastries, cereals or fresh fruit available.
Lunch is also a buffet, every day had a different choice of fish or meats with pasta, vegetables, rice and salad. Drinks brought to you once you are seated.
Dinner is 'Haut Cusine' Beautifully prepared 'al a carte' with three or four choices plus other options that you could pay for. The portions are not large, however, you do not feel hungry after and there is room enough for a drink on the terrace in the evening.
There is such a good vibe at the resort that you cannot fail to get into it and make new friends.
The mix of people was British, Americans and Italians, the age group ranged from mid twenties up to about mid sixties.
The resort itself is very quirky, the cottages are your own Caribbean shack which are lovely and private, the gardens are full of coconut and banana trees.
The paths through the gardens to the shacks are winding but may not be great for anyone with trouble walking. I am sure that there are cottages with easier access for those with any mobility issues.
The beaches are clean, the water is so blue and warm, no pressure from Hawkers.
If you go there, peak to 'Movements' on the beach, he sells Conch shells and will take you fishing of the rocks.
I caught Stingrays and Red Snappers and talked nonsense with him as only fishermen do.
I gave the Chef two of the red snappers I caught and she cooked them beautifully for our lunch.
All in all we think this is our best holiday ever. So thank you everyone at Cocobay

my wife and I have recently returned from a wonderful holiday at Cocobay resort in Antigua, this resort is ideal for couples of all ages, there is a little climbing up to some of the cottages but nothing to worry about , the staff at the resort are most helpful and give great service, we used the beach most days it was beautiful nobody hassles you, we snorkelled every day and saw many fish , the reef is very close to shore , I would advise exploring the far side as we saw many more fish that side, we took our own gear but equipment is available for free we used the free Hobby Cat sailing catamaran most days Robert a really nice guy will give free sailing lessons try it its great fun, we never used the canoes that were available due to lack of time but they looked fun too .both bars serve drinks freely and are welcoming, the restaurant is built on different levels with a lovely view, the food was very good no complaints what so ever, when we first arrived we were put in cottage number 51 the view was not what we expected but after 3 days of speaking with the manager we were moved to number 24 which had a better view and was in a quieter area , Frogs do make a noise all night and can disturb your sleep, in our second cottage this wasn't a problem .our flight with Virgin was excellent the cabin staff could not have been more helpful { a credit to Sir Richard } the time on the plane really did fly by , whilst at the resort we took the catamaran trip which we both enjoyed we also walked to a local bus stop and took the bus into St Johns the capital, it was a fun experience , overall we had a really good relaxing holiday which we would recommend to anyone Well done Virgin and Cocobay resort both companies can be proud of their staff.
