“Honeymoon expectations exceeded!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 28, 2013

Anne-Marie and I are hoping to return someday for a second Honeymoon!!!

Great food, friendly staff, complimentary drinks upon arrival, helpful from booking to departure, nice white sand and blue waters, great shopping in the duty free downtown area.

Regards,

Paul Christopher of WalkOnWaterPhOtOgrAphy

P.S.: Travelled in Aug 2009 but the system does not have that far back, so selected 2012.

Cocobay Resort exceeded all expectations. Staff was outstanding, always doing something extra before ever being asked. Food was excellent. Setting is outrageous with views and then more views of the ocean and beaches. Very romantic. Very comfortable. We loved our cottage on the ocean. Best of all however is the staff - I cannot say enough good things about them. They set the tone and feel - and believe me it felt great.

Room Tip: Choose a cottage lower down nearer the ocean. More privacy and great waves sounds at night. Very q...

My wife and I spent our 5 night honeymoon at Cocobay, Antigua. The wonderful and extremely friendly staff made us feel so welcome! O'Neal, the manager, is so nice and makes sure that your every need is promptly attended to. This resort is all about the little details. When we arrived we had fresh fruit, sandwiches and tasty French champagne awaiting us in our room. The bed was covered in fresh pink hibiscus petals, a nice touch for us honeymooners.

The rooms are individual cottages and are rustic but clean and nice. Each has large French doors opening to your own large balcony overlooking the sea. There is no air conditioning but you won't need it, just open up the slats on your windows and let the breeze and the sound of the ocean roll in, I've never slept better! Another nice touch is the shower which has doors that open up onto the balcony. This allows you to take an "outdoor" shower but the view is obscured by vines on the balcony.

The food is incredible and has a very Caribbean flair. There is one restaurant on the premises but it is all you need. It is an open air cafe overlooking the ocean. Breakfast is a buffet and typically includes bacon, pancakes, pastries, fresh fruit, omelets cooked to order, etc. Lunch is also a buffet and typically includes freshly grilled fish, chiken, pork kabobs, etc. There is always a soup (typically a Caribbean flavor, ginger pumpkin was the best!) and cold pasta salads. Dinner is more formal and each day you must sign up for a time slot for the evening. There are always 3 choices for appetizers, a soup, 3 choices for entrees and 2 or 3 deserts. The food is excellent, gourmet quality and keep in mind it's all inclusive, drinks are free! My wife and I paid the extra $150 to have our own private beach dinner and it was well worth the money. It was a very romantic candle-lit dinner right by the water surrounded by tiki torches and oil lamps. She had lobster and I had a steak. Both were excellent. Thursday nights are Caribbean night and the resort has a steel drum band for entertainment and serves a dinner buffet with all Caribbean dishes. It was so fun! And there were 6 or 7 deserts to choose from.

The beach is public but it is secluded and only used by people staying at the resort. It was never crowded; at most I saw fifteen other people on the very large beach. The sand is white and the water is not the clearest I have seen but it is the most striking turquoise color imaginable. The beach has large permanent thatched umbrellas for shade, which is welcome considering it was usually in the low 80s F during our November stay. We found tons of insteresting seashells just under the water and brought them home for a souvenir.

There are 2 pools, both overlook the ocean and have plenty of poolside beds and lounge chairs. They were never crowded while we were there and the resort was fully booked. The bar is located next to the small pool and has a nice atmosphere and the cocobay punch is great and quite stout.

On our last night at the resort the manager had rum punch and toasted coconut delivered to our room as a fairwell gift. Upon returning to our room for the evening we found that the custodian had placed LED candles and rose petals on our floor while we were out. It is these small touches that make Cocobay feel so warm and inviting.

It is a very low key resort; not a place for serious partiers. The customers are almost exclusively honeymooners and couples. I am pretty sure that children under 14 are not allowed and we did not see one child or teenager. I would guess that the average customer is in their 40s. However, my wife is in her mid-20s and I in my early 30s and we found the tone and atmosphere to be exactly what we were looking for in a honeymoon destination. If I had to sum this resort up in one word it would be "perfection". My wife and I have promised each other that we will definitely return to Cocobay for our 5 year anniversary. We loved Cocobay Resort!

Room Tip: Garden view rooms are much cheaper but most still have an excellent view of the ocean. Mountain vie...

My husband and I just spent 7 blissful days at Cocobay! It was the best vacation we have ever had! We cannot wait to return! From the second you arrive the warm smiles of Melissa and O'Neal welcome you and make you feel relaxed. O'Neal upgraded us and made up feel even more special! The food was good- not ridiculous amounts of choices but I liked that! The grounds are well kept, the beach is gorgeous, rooms are clean! Not having internet, tv and phone was a blessing! We got to spend one night in a seafront room. It was amazing! I suggest if you can to try and stay in one of these rooms! Its an incredible experience and view.
While the resort is wonderful, surroundings gorgeous, this place is outstanding because of the staff and the level of service! My husband and I have been to many resorts and beaches but this place stands out because of O'Neal and his amazingly helpful staff. We also made a trip to St. John's. We had a lovely tour, trip to the fresh market, delicious cuisine at Delightful! Caribbean Chinese food is amazing! Austin our driver was wonderful - highly recommend him if you are thinking of taking a trip off the resort.
During this time we also celebrated my birthday and due to the Cocobay's staff especially O'Neal, it was the best birthday ever! At breakfast we had champagne served for mimosas, the staff sang to me- really wonderful! Then our room was decorated with flowers, candles, champagne! Such a nice surprise! We then went to OJ's lunch, great food! Dinner was an lobster dinner -oceanview with candles, tiki torches, personal steel band player and waitress by the pool by the ocean. Unforgettable! The rest of our stay was also great! Many thanks to the great staff O'Neal, Tamika, Melissa, O'Reil, Jermaine, Sascha to name a few!! We will definitely be back!

Room Tip: If you can get a seafront room! It is worth the extra cost!

We enjoyed our visit in 2012 so much that we booked again for 2013 as soon as we got home. Our return trip was even better, not just because we opted for a sea-front chalet but also because of the numerous small additions and improvements to this already enjoyable gem of a resort.

We particularly noticed the friendly welcome from all staff, including the cleaners and gardeners. O'Neal Richards paid tribute to his entire team in his remarks on barbecue night. Quite rightly, but it's to his credit in being so inclusive and in training everyone how to respond.

Of course there is still scope for further improvement, but we can wholeheartedly recommend this relaxing venue to almost anyone; the exception being vegetarians.

We hope to be back, though it won't be quite so soon this time (for unrelated reasons).

Room Tip: Sea front rooms are the best, but they cost more. All the rooms are good for an away-from-it-all rel...

When you arrive at Cocobay you can tell you've chosen a great place to stay. The initial impression from the well-manicured grounds and the reception area, with a personal greeting from the manager and a welcoming glass of rum punch, is a great start. The couple who transferred from the airport with us were welcomed back as returning guests, which is always a good sign! The hotel has 2 infinity pools, both with plenty of sunloungers, many with shade available, and more loungers on the beach. Staff even walk along the beach with drinks. For some reason the bar has the feel of an upmarket African safari lodge. Having never been on an all-inclusive package before we were a little wary as to what we could expect from the food, but it was very good, with a wide selection at breakfast and lunch (both buffets) and 4 main course choices at dinner, plus extras such as lobster and steak available on payment of a US$25 supplement. The separate adjacent Sheer Rocks restaurant is worth a visit one evening too. The rooms are fairly basic (no TV) but fine, we had aircon but never used it as with a ceiling fan it kept it reasonably cool at night (in January, may be different in summer). The hammock on the balcony is a great feature. All in all highly recommended, we have added it to our list of places to return to and it is now our favourite place in the Caribbean, beating even the Bel Air Plantation in Grenada, which we never thought possible!

This hotel should have rave reviews due to the quality of the staff. They are friendly, helpful and make the holiday a special experience.

Our accommodation couldn't be faulted although it is not the most luxurious in the world and quite rustic. However, the sea breeze coming through the windows at night and waking up to a lovely sea view are great. Booking direct meant we had lots of extra surprises which added to the enjoyment.

Biting insects are a problem - we didn't establish what they were - but they weren't mosquitos. More likely sand flies or similar. Use a deterrent and as soon as you get there otherwise it will be too late.

Room Tip: Sea view or sea front. And the lower number the closer you are to the facilities.
