“Food-Teriffic...Mosquitos, not so much!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 12, 2011

We arrived after sunset (I understand the sunset views are beautiful) to this wonderfully decorated restaurant that is part of the "Sugar Ridge Hotel" for dinner. The service and the atmosphere was great. The cocktails were well prepared.....not skimpy on the alcohol but not too much either! The mahi mahi in a shallot lime sauce was perfect, the shrimp with penne (for my daughter) was a little too spicy for her but would've been ok for me. My husband had the filet which he said was good, not fantastic, but good and the dessert was yummy. Unfortunately, it is all outdoor seating with ceiling fans, and the mosquitos were also hungry that night......and they feasted on us! It was a pricey dinner, with great service & well prepared food. I probably would have given it an "excellent" rating, but the mosquito bites & lack of air conditioning earns it "very good" instead.

“Lovely location and very stylish but shame about the service”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 18, 2011

We visited the restaurant in April and whilst the food was Ok the meal took ages to come and my dish of chicken and mash potato was luke warm. We waited almost 50 minutes for our meal and it surprised us how long it took to be served given that we were probably the first people in the restaurant that evening and it was not very busy.

“Something special”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 9, 2011

The main thing that you notice when you arrive is the stunning views over the harbour and the sea. If you go up early enough (it gets dark in Antigua around 6.30pm) you can have a wonderful cocktail/sundowner whilst watching the beautiful sunset. The restaurant feels quite intimate with low level lighting, take a torch to read the menu, the decor gives it a colonial feel and the staff are very attentive. The manager, Clifford, is very friendly and considerate to the diner's needs. Good menu but a little expensive so ideal for special occasions

“Excellent service, okay food, beautiful ambience and view”

Carmichael's is really in an amazing location - the view is to die for and its a shame that their main focus is on dinner as you dont get the full impact of the view. It is probably the best spot on that side of the island for a view of the sunset.

Its great to go to for sunset cocktails and it has a gorgeous infinity pool - I have also had Sunday Roast lunch there in January 2011 and that was a lovely afternoon - the roast I think was one of the chef's strong points. The pool has a semi covered deck and lounge chairs, so you can go and kick back poolside with a drink and take in the stunning view. On clear days you can see Nevis, St Kitts, Redonda and Montseratt.

The prices for the meals are mid to upper end - you spend about 100 USD per person for a 3 course meal, plus your drinks. The drinks are a bit on the pricey side. The food on the dinner menu is not going to bowl you over but its a decent meal. Stay away from the duck salad appetizer.

Bathrooms are gorgeous - and on the whole the place is nicely appointed. YOu have to get a golf cart ride up the hill to the restaurant which is actually lots of fun and ads an element of excitement to the experience.
