While it is true that the LR furniture leaves something to be desired, it is not a deal breaker and we worked with it (extra pillows), though we highly recommend they upgrade in the LRs. The beds were terrific and the 2B/2Bath unit we were in was comfortable, large, and the kitchen well supplied. The staff was all very helpful and even gave us leeway in our checkout time as it was pouring rain and we needed to wait for our cab. The website indicates the grocery store is about a mile away but it was only about a 5 min. walk, as were a variety of restaurants.

The beach, just a short walk away around Jolly Beach resort, is lovely and we made good use of the hobie cats and such; not a real good place to snorkel, though - take an excursion out to Cades Reef or catch a bus (an interesting island experience in itself) to some of the other good beaches; again, the front desk staff was helpful in figuring that out, and it was a fun part of our stay. If the weather is clear, the view of Montserrat is terrific and you can catch a wonderful sunset from the beach.

The grounds are fairly nice though some maintenance is needed on the roads. We did have an issue in our unit with both the fridge (too low to the floor, banging our feet) and the a/c (draining water across the end of the hallway and into the kitchen) and reported those issues. When walking around, keep an eye out for the many birds and the local mongooses darting around on the grounds.

We ate all our meals in, having brought in what we could in a cooler and getting fresh items from the nearby grocery store, a system which worked very well and saved us a lot of time as well as money. If someone is around to drive you in the golf cart, they will, but we went in the off season so that wasn't an option most of the time, though we did manage to catch a ride back from the grocery store when it was raining out.

Room Tip: We choose a room on the 3rd floor (no elevator) so we'd be sure to not have anyone above us. It...

We chose Tranquility Bay due to the availability of the two bedroom suite, as we were traveling with our 10 year old son. The hotel was part of the Jolly Beach Resort, which appeared to me as a nice, but fairly low end all inclusive. The only thing shared with Jolly Beach was the beach and the swiming pools. The rest of Tranquility Bay was off by itself. The only annoying part of being within Jolly Beach was that the bars and food concessions at the pool were all part of the all inclusive. Wrist bands were available for purchase, but we didnt get them. Otherwise, being part of Jolly Beach was not any issue at all.

The main pool was fabulous! It was big and clean, and it was very beautiful. The pool is right on the beach. The beach area was great. It was very large and quiet. There were very few waves. There were local vendors along the beach selling souveniers, t-shirts, and other items. they were very nice, and once they asked you once, they left you alone. The locals were all very friendly. The resort had free sail boats, kayaks, and paddle boats. The equipment was very modern and in great shape. There were even free sailing lessons every day, which we enjoyed very much.

The buildings and rooms at the Tranquility bay side were very nice. The rooms were big enough for a comfortable stay. They appeared to be older properties, but kept up very well. The inside of the two bedroom suite was very large. The bedrooms were nice for mid-range Carribean resort. The furnishings were in good condition, but very basic. As mentioned in other reviews, the beds and the living room couch were fairly uncomfortable, but liveable. The balcony was fabulous. We enjoyed many hour sitting out there and watching the hummingbirds working in the trees.

The staff at the hotel were fabulous. Friendly and very helpful.

There was a great resturaunt right on the beach, with excellent food. The harbor was a short walk away, and there were many great resturaunts there too! The food was excellent almost everywhere we went. The hotel is in a great spot. We will definately return to the Tranquility Bay Resort.

although i cannot remember names, the staffing here was great. My wife and i took our honeymoon to Antigua and had nothing but the best service. The entire island was very polite and fun to be around. we did everything from fishing, to snorkeling, zip lines, swimming in the ocean, jet skies, and an entire tour of the island with just us and a guide. Taxi's are fairly expensive, but we went on vacation to spend money, not to try and save. we save our money when at home. we both would and will return to this island. We even got to the point of being exhausted, and we just went out on our own and visited with the people. overall, from what we observed, Tranquility Bay is in the TOP 2 places to stay and if you including the staffing, they slide into the number 1 spot. Thank you all for giving us the memories of a life time.

Room Tip: we stayed on the second floor. it was quiet, peaceful, and allowed a nice breeze to blow through the...

Just stayed at TB for 2 weeks and enjoyed every minute.
We stayed in a 1 bed appartment on the 1st floor. It was a good size with everything we needed. The kingsize bed was excellent..
The staff were really helpful and could do enough for you (mainly remember Felmina and Tamsin, but they were all really good) They booked all of our excursions for us and made reservations at local restaurants, we really didn't have to lift a finger.
The beach was just a short stroll through the carpark, and was well worth the short stroll. The only issue was the vendors that seemed to be constantly walking along from one end to the other, but if you tell them no most learn after the first couple of times. There are some vendors that have permenant stalls on the beach, these are all polite and don't hassle you.
Jolly Beach resort now offer $20 or $50 payment cards that you can purchase from their reception. These can be used at the poolside bar, the Coconut grill or Hemespheres. We tried the coconut grill a couple of times and it was ok food and filled a hole.
The hobbie cats that you can use are good, my husband spent lots of time just sailing backwards and forwards.
We both really enjoyed our stay and will definitley be going back.
Nice clean relaxing place with everything you need at hand.
One warning.. There are loads of mosquitos and noseeums. Take vitamin B1 for 2 weeks before you go and while you are there, also spray yourself well with repellant everynight. We got a few bites but not as bad as a lot of people who had only sprayed.

My wife and I had a two week break and used Tranquility Bay Resort as our holiday centre. Our apartment was spacious and well located within the complex, with two balconies - one idea for lounging on when it got too hot as it was shaded, the other adequate for two upright chairs for early morning sun, ideal for two people. The grounds are well maintained and the white sandy beach a short walk away.

The staff are friendly and helpful and always had smiles on their faces. The Reception Staff gave good advice on trips and excursions and reserving/booking places where necessary, they gave details of the best times to see some more distant events i.e the Sunday Night, Shirley Heights Steel Band session and BBQ (which was a brilliant experience).

We pre-booked a car with Hertz and collected it from the local office situated at Jolly Harbour and undertook five days sightseeing ranging from exploring the old forts, English Harbour, St Johns and travelling around the coast (stopping off where we could to stroll along the quiet, pristine beaches).

Tranquility Bay's neighbouring Jolly Harbour Beach Resort is where there are some good restaurants and I did enjoy Boccellio the Italian restaurant. Offsite there was the Akropolis (who did beautiful Pork Steaks), Mellini's a nice little Italian Restaurant who did a mix of menu's -payment preferred by the latter two in local currency, but will convert to US$ if necessary. The Supermarket was short five minute walk away and had all the necessary foodstuff for breakfasts and picnics - payment in local currency, but will convert to US$ and give any change back in the local currency.

Excursions to take/book: Swim and feed Stingrays at Stingray City, a Catamaran day trip to Barbuda and a helicopter flight over Montserrat - all absolutely superb and well worth the cost.

All in all it was a wonderful break and fantastic experience and would consider returning after we have visited all the other Caribbean Islands.

My week at Tranquility bay met all my expectations. My husband and I were looking forward to a week of relaxation mixed with activity of our owm choice. We also needed to stay in touch with our children and grans via skype. This holiday met our needs. We love fresh fruit and home cooking, and shopping at local markets which we were able to enjoy. The ambiance on the beach and at the poolside at this time of year added to our pleasure as an older couple. Antigua has special meaning to me as my maternal grandparents who passed on before I was born were from Swetes. Finding distant cousins and learning about them has been a positive and rewarding experiance. All who we had contact with were really helpful and hospitable. All in all we had a great time and look forward to our next visit when we again come to Tranquility bay to celebrate our wedding anniversary in September Godwilling. Thank you all.
