Hiep Thoai seems to be relatively new, and is a small, family-run hotel just an 8 minute walk to the night market, and a 2 minute walk to the beach (it is practically across from the hotel). The rooms are basic (when we arrived, there was no dresser to put clothing, but they put one in our room and the rest of the rooms two days after we checked in - that's how new it is), which offer you a bed, hot shower (sometimes inconsistent in temperature and with lower water pressure), fridge, small flat-screen tv (with around 10 English channels), a/c and wifi. The rooms are very clean - no problems there - and the beds were reasonably comfortable, but firm. Wifi was pretty consistent, even though the ISP blocks Facebook, which is a problem if you're trying to keep family and friends abreast of your travels through that social media resource.

Some of the family members speak English, but regardless, they are all very friendly and we felt nothing but welcome at this place. And really, at $30/night, we got two double beds in our room (so, lots of space) on the third floor (which was quiet), and for the location, you could be paying a lot more. This was also during the peak time of Tet (lunar new year) where a lot of other resorts had doubled their fees.

There is no lift, so if you don't want the exercise, ask for a room on a lower floor. Oh, and there are other cheaper options too, but we wanted a bit more space and got it at $30. The cheapest option might even be as low as $15-20 without having to stay in a dorm room.

You can rent a motorbike through the hotel for 200 000/day (around 10 dollars a day) too.

Room Tip: Depends on what you're looking for - there is no lift so if you don't want to climb stairs, ask for a room on the first floor.
