We stayed three nights while attending a festival in Sonneberg. Hotel is a converted old mansion, with only about 8-10 rooms. Rooms were very large by german standards (ours had a separate sitting area). Very clean, well maintained rooms. Restaurant is a well rated gastronomique-- exceptionally good meals, but a little pricey-- however there is a daily special. The chef/owner is friendly and will adapt something to your taste if requested. (Chicken is not normally on the menu but the chef went out of his way to obtain some and make a roasted chicken breast mixed salad for my wife). It's a little tough to find on a map-- and it is really off the beaten path, but if you can find your way to the North end of Steinach, it is well signed. The hotel is somewhat isolated-- the last kilometer is on a gravel road, and the only sounds you here are the occasional car on the road below and the sounds of sheep and cows looing on the nearby farms.
