“Nice holidaypark”
Reviewed November 3, 2010

This holiday park is situated next to a golf course. The park thus offers golf packages. It is part of the Roompot group and offers entertainment for children with "Rabbit Koos" and has a small indoor pool, a restaurant and bicyclerental. There are also luxury houses with sauna and Jacuzzi and big houses for complete families. The houses are built close together, so there is little privacy. Nearby you can walk fine, visit Cochem and make train trips. During our trip the park was very busy, but we've made some beautiful walks. The guests are mainly Dutch and Belgian. Our house was very clean, but you have to pay extra for linen, towels and cleaning.

First of all I would like to clear some things up here.

Name: The resort goes with different names. It is called either "Ferienresort Cochem", "Golfresort Cochem" or "Ferien- und Golfresort Cochem". All is the same thing: a large resort built by a dutch company called Roompot (see also http://www.roompotparcs.com)

Location: If you come by car and you are using a navigation system/gps, do NOT follow the adress given here or on the homepage of the hotel. The road "Ellerer Berg 1" will lead you to the small place called "Ediger-Eller". But this is not where the hotel is located. I know it sounds weird but it is true. Once near this place, follow the signs reading "Golf-Resort Cochem" and you will find it.

We stayed at this place for 5 days/4 nights over the Easter holidays. The resort offers different types of houses, we stayed in the biggest one for up to 14 people as we have been 8 adults and 5 kids.

After the problem of finding it, we arrived at our house. There are around 400 different houses, so be sure to know your house number. Each house has its own small parking spot. But as we arrived with 4 cars, there was not really enough space. For 2 cars it is enough, 3 is difficult, 4 is a problem. There is a big parking lot at the main entrance, but it can be far, depending where your house is located. We have been lucky that we could fit all cars on the grass in front and at the side of the house.

The house itself was big, in the lower floor there were 2 bedrooms, a big living room with kitchen, a small rooom with the heating inside and a bathroom. The upper floor had the rest of the bedrooms (4) and 3 bathrooms (two with a shower, one with a tub). The lower bathroom had a steam shower included, one of the upper bathrooms a sauna. Sauna worked good, steam shower not tested.

The living room has enough chairs for 14 people (incl. two large tables), this also counts for outside chairs for the garden/terrace. In the living room there where also 3 couches/sofas with a table, some small tables to put some stuff, a TV, Radio and a DVD-Player. TV stations were mostly German but also some Dutch. 2 of the upper bedrooms had TV as well.

The kitchen had 4 gas cooking plates but no oven. There is a microwave which also works as an oven but there is no way to bake something in there for 14 people. So fries in large quantities might be a problem. There are enough plates, glasses or cutlery, there are pans and pots as well as cleaning utensils.

As I have already mentioned, this resort has been built by a dutch company. The guests are mainly dutch as well. There is a large supermarket where you can by rolls for breakfast and everything you need (like beer for example). It has a public bath, a restaurant and 2 golf-courses. There is also an area for kids to play.
We did not try the restaurant but the prices are around 22 EUR for a buffet as far as I can remember. They also offer a la carte. Golf practice starts at 10 EUR for the driving range, we did not test this though.

Things to do:
Cochem is close by car (maybe 10 minutes), by foot if you like hiking it is around 1 hour to 1.5 hours depending how fast you are. This is a great area to hike. Cochem is a very touristy town but also offers a public bath.
By all means got to the castle "Reichsburg Cochem": http://www.reichsburg-cochem.de/ This is something you will never forget. Take the guided tour, doesn't cost much and takes one hour. You will have a great view over the Mosel area from there as well. From Cochem city center you have to go up hill for around 15-20 minutes but there is also a shuttle bus.

As the Mosel area is famous for their wine, go to one of the local producers called "Winzer" (winery owner). I recommend the winery "Rademacher Hermann" close to the big parking lot in Cochem. They also offer rooms.

Also a trip to "Beilstein" is very interesting. It is an old town which also has a castle up hill. But the castle is in ruins, still interesting as you can climb up the old tower for a magnificent Mosel view. The town itself has also much to offer. If you come by car or by foot, there is a small ferry opposite the town, so you don't have to continue your way until you find a bridge to cross the river.

All in all our stay was great. I just did not give the resort a higher rating as from the location there is nothing around except for the resort (but towns close by car). Also the rooms were ok but not overwhelming. Still I think this resort deserves a 4 star rating.
