We recently returned from a trip to Africa and Kings Pool was our starting point for our second safari to Africa. The service, location on the Linyanti river, food and not to mention the actual wildlife were all spectacular! We had the room at the end of the camp which was incredibly peaceful and had superb views across the river. The decor of the room is very nice and the deck with a small plunge pool is great. The staff helped make the experience brilliant, our guide/drive Moses was superb (particularly in tracking down 3 nomadic cheetahs for us)! The management team were brilliant and nothing was too much to ask for. Dinners were great and the food quality was better than we had expected. Dinner at the boma was a great touch. We managed to see good numbers of animals including lechwe, loads of impala, lions, hyenas feeding, elephants, piles of hippos, some crocs, baboons and much more. Sleeping at night is interesting as we could hear elephants trumpeting, hippos making all kinds of noise and lions calling. Truly incredible! This is a great spot to go on safari and the staff really do make it a cut above other choices! Would definitely go back.

We booked our safari through Wilderness Safaris and had a FANTASTIC time. If you enjoy Luxury with a great safari it would be very difficult to beat Kingspool. Our guide Matthew Copham was by far the best we have ever enjoyed in all of Africa, his humor, game tracking and knowledge of the area is unsurpassed. We tracked leopards, wild dogs and had great encounters with all the big cats even cheetah. The lodge, service and food were exceptional and well worth the cost of staying. We certainly hope to include Kings Pool again into our safari next year. Thank you Maureen for our great vacation. Bob & Linda

2 nights were simply not enough at this luxurious oasis on the River Linyanti on the Northern boarder of Botswana and Namibia. We stayed at this camp in the busy season, but we never felt crowded. We spent much of our time on safari viewing local wildlife, but this is a 5* safari experience. August is winter and early morning wake up calls to breakfast at 6am for 6.30am were chilly. However we were given blankets and hot waterbottles on the drives, which were really appreciated! The evening drives were not so chilly but as the sun set we piled on the layers. Our guide Moss was very informative, and spotted animals and birds invisible to us! We saw lots of elephant, impala, kudu, a steenbok, a honey badger, giraffe, a jackal, zebra, a mongoose, a black mamba, lions both female and male, hippo, crocks, and lots lots more.
The actual camp is extremely well and sensitively designed, and I was impressed by the feeling of space. Each double room had its own deck area with a plunge pool, sala - for afternoon naps, seating and an outside shower. I took a book but found I just wanted to soak up the view of the river. The rooms are large and all very well appointed. All views of the river are breathtaking, but the design and degree of comfort here are just as notable.
The staff were very friendly and knowledgable, and the food was abundant and surprisingly diverse.
I would recommend a sunset boat trip on the river, as sunset on the river here can be absolutely spectacular.
Quite simply we enjoyed every single moment!

We were booked into Kings Pool by Africa2Go. Beautiful camp, fantastic service. But the main attraction is the staff. Managers Olivia and Connie set the tone for a great experience. The staff--guides, chef, service and management--were encouraged to mix with the guests, making each mealtime an event in its own right. Highly recommended.

July 6-9, 2008 Kings Pool. In my opinion, there are at least four components to consider in evaluating a camp:

1. Accommodations and facilities
2. Staff
3. Food
4. Game viewing.

Kings Pool rates 5 stars for all of them. The accommodations as other reviews have mentioned are top notch. We arrived after the renovations of the main area, and I spent a lot of time there before and after each drive hanging out with staff, guests or my family. There is tons of space to hang by yourself, be in the sun or shade, review your pix on the available computer (no internet access) or sip a cocktail.

The rooms are very nicely appointed (see photos) in classic British style. Two very comfortable twins pushed together, large open shower, separate toilet from shower, two sinks, tea set, sherry, etc. The only downside is the lighting in the room. Very poor for even those with young eyes. This needs improvement. However, it truly is the only downside. The animal noises at night - mostly hippo, warthog, frogs and occasional lion - were music to our ears. My wife and I woke up each night giggling at all of the animal sounds. It really makes staying in a tent, albeit a very luxurious one, a blast.

The staff were unbelievable. The friendliness and interaction made you feel part of something. Listening to Shelly speak “Bush” was really fascinating. Having our guide Moses sit with us at lunch and other meals as well as Ona, Alex, OD and others really made it special. This interaction became much more pronounced after we visited another camp and didn’t have the same experience.

Food. Eddie the chef was wonderful. While we have read some reviews stating that the food wasn’t up to par, we completely disagree. Not only was there an abundance of food, but the quality was great. Additionally, Eddie makes very healthy fare that can be enjoyed by all. Eddie also gave us a tour of the kitchen and provided us with a few recipes to bring home. You won’t be disappointed.

Game viewing. I can’t be certain if there is any correlation with the camp and the opportunity to view game or feedings. In our case, we were unbelievably fortunate. We witnessed the aftermath of three lions taking down a giraffe and the hyenas, lions and vultures which ultimately fought for their share.

We saw live a male leopard kill a warthog and drag the body within 15 feet of us and our LandRover. Our guide continuously asked for our patience in waiting for things to shake out. They always did. My belief is that each guide’s ability matters and this being a Wilderness Safari camp (significant training and requirements for guides) makes a difference. Also, the guides communicated regularly to share their sightings. We didn’t find this at other camps.

Over all: We can't wait to go back.
