“Lovely Hotel with Fantastic Food and Wonderful Staff”
Reviewed June 12, 2013

Set against the backdrop of the Alps this hotel is truly a wonderful experience. The rooms are spacious, clean and cosy. Each has a balcony, mine was overlooking the Alps, I woke up each morning to that wonderful view, fresh air and the sound of cowbells, quite enchanting. The hotel boasts a spa, sport facilities and a mini shopping mall in the basement where you can purchase designer clothing and luxury goods. The one thing that has stuck in my mind is the quality of the food and the knowledge of the staff. The hotel boasts several restaurants and the food is outstanding. Nothing is too much trouble. I ate one of the best steaks I have ever tasted here. Highly recommended!

About to spend our 5th summer holidays there in a row. Our kids are happy there for the sensational entertaining programme, we enjoy gourmet dining and, being expats, the feeling being home from home. Guided hiking tours are great fun and very informative, the tennis coach is killing you being double your age, but then go and spoil yourself even more in the Michelin star restaurant called Silberdistel...

The food is not that 5 stars, and is not that kind of Relais Chateaux type, I mean is not intimist, it is a really big resort and the pools can be crowded when the hotel is full.
Me and my family, we enjoy smaller Relais.

The service is good as well as the facilities and outdoor possibilities. We have rented the bikes in the Hotel and you can really enjoy the landscapes.
You will be happy with a vacation here.

Came here With my wife, son and parents at my parents suggestion, since they had been here a few years back. This is a wonderful place. I would describe it as casual sophistication. It is perfectly comfortable for families with children of any age, as well as couples without children. The grounds are magnificent and there is much to do, including golf, hiking, etc. The facilities, including the indoor/outdoor pool, and spa are great and are kept up very nicely. It is easy to spend a day (or six in our case) just relaxing at the hotel and doing nothing.
Perhaps the best thing about sonnenalp is the food. The breakfast and dinner are included. Both feature huge varieties of delicious food. You can find anything here.
Another great thing about this hotel is the staff. They are very friendly and helpful. You can tell they are well trained and enjoy what they do.
We have really enjoyed this beautiful place, nestled comfortably in the Allgau mountain range. I just wish the staff could control the weather (it has been cloudy virtually every day). I'd recommend it to anyone who once a fun, beautiful place to relax and fatten up.

I've been to Sonnenalp with the whole family three times now (8 adults and 10 teenagers) in the past seven years, twice in the winter and once in during spring.
When you swim from the inside pool to the outside pool you swim towards a fantastic view. A view with mountains, forrests and you surrounded by steam from the pool and jacuzzi's. After that you can have a fine lunch in a lunchroom that is directly connected with the pool area. The massages, manicures, pedicures, peelings, saunas etcetera are clean, luxurious, comfortable and given by professionals.

My top three welness experiences are all at Sonnenalp.

The Sonnenalp is an absolutely fabulous place to stay. The location is beautiful, with Alpine views all around. However, because the area is rural and there are many farms, there may be an odor of manure at times.

The hotel and its rooms are designed and decorated in the Bavarian-Tyrolean style (frankly, I cannot tell the difference) and are well appointed and equipped. The pools are fabulous. The indoor pool is free form and leads to another free form outdoor pool (heated water, of course), and there is an additional large lap pool for the more athletically inclined. The hotel amenities are first-rate, and the staff are uniformly cordial and helpful. The restaurant is superb. We had half-pension and ate so heartily at breakfast that we never bothered with lunch.

This was our second visit to the Sonnenalp and it exceeded all of our already high expectations.

Of course, the Sonnenalp is pricey but in my opinion is well worth the cost.

One tip for golfers: if you choose the Oberallgau course, be sure to reserve a cart. This course is the prototypical mountain course, with huge ups and downs to the terrain. Normally I like to walk a golf course, but the Oberallgau is hard on the legs. When we arrived and saw the terrain, we asked for a golf cart but found that there are not enough carts available for all the golfers and we had not made a reservation. I won’t make that mistake again!
