“Lovely schloss”
Reviewed May 7, 2013

As a previous poster stated, it's a hidden gem. Strangely my GPS routed me very near Pommersfelden so we stopped by on our way home from Bamberg. It's a nice palace in the middle of nowhere. Stop by if you're in the area.

“a hidden gem”
Reviewed October 16, 2012

This beautiful baroque palace is a little off the beaten path, but that's what makes it so interesting.
It's around 40 minutes southeast of the gem of a town Bamberg. It survived the ravages of WWII due to its location.
It is only open April through October for visit, but if you're in the area during that time do not miss it. It is still a privately owned palace but is open to the public to help defray taxes.
We got a private tour for 2 by a wonderful English speaking guide who was extremely knowledgeable and entertaining. This cost nothing extra as in October things are slow and we were the only visitors at 11 AM that morning.
The place is beautiful and one of the rooms ( the mirror room) has the most beautiful inlaid wood floor I have seen in any of the palaces in Germany, and I've been to almost all of them. The admission was 6E per person quite a bargain. The tour lasted almost 1 hour. There is also a fantastic art collection, Reubens, Canaletto, etc.
Since it is so close to Bamberg is makes for a good addition to a stopover in that town which is also one of the real gems of Bavaria.
There is also a hotel and restaurant on site, but we did not eat there as it was close on Mondays.

“What for treasue”

The castle is located in a small village, named Pommersfelden. You will find it less than 40 km south east from Bamberg. If you on your way from the north to the south of Germany, you will pass the village on the motorway A3 (exit Pommersfelden). Its only 3 km to drive and you will see the castle soon (follow the sign Pommersfelden). The castle was built by bishop and used only in the summer time. During the summer period you have a possibilty to visit the castle (look on the homepage). I would recommend to see the castle, but not the park. You have to pay few Euros, but you can't see anything there. The restaurant and the hotel and the restaurant are not really good. Would not eat or sleep there. If you want to have a nice coffee or cake, walk few minutes to the Kellerhaus Cafe (you will find the homepage). If you want to eat something, you can find a restaurant in the middle of the village (Restaurant Grüner Baum).
