“Best mistake we ever made!”
Reviewed April 27, 2012

The address is misleading. Masseria Susafa is something like 35 km out of town. The last few miles of roadway are indescribably awful, but I don’t mind that, because it means (a) you have the road to yourself and (b) can drive at your own (snail’s) pace. Once there we received, quite literally, a warm welcome. Maria Grazia, Marco, Enza & Co. were simply wonderful. Nothing was too much trouble. Salvo’s cooking is out of this world, and we had dinner in front of a roaring fire. The following day it rained like old boots and the fog was so thick you could hardly see beyond the tip of your nose. So what did they do? Shunted us into the bar and lit another fire! Never known such hospitality – which is saying quite a lot if, like us, you’ve been to Sicily umpteen times before. We loved it!

The staff at Masseria Susafa made us feel so welcome, and our our hosts, Manfred and Silvia were second to none. The meals were fantastic and we especially enjoyed eating our dinners in front of the stone fireplace in the granary restaurant. We stayed three nights and this beautiful farm was one of our highlights in Sicily.

This is probably one of the nicest agri turismos in Sicily. Great location, fantastic structure, rooms are fine, and really delicious food. However, the owners of the property could be more hands on with guest management and staff management.

Their dinners are amazing! Hats off to the chef. And Salvatore is the main waiter and he is a fantastic waiter and just seems like a great person. Very nice man. The house was full one of the nights we stayed there and Salvatore was left to wait AND bus the tables. He was running around like crazy (not complaining once) while the property owners sat comfortably and ate their dinner WITH some of the other hotel staff. It was bizarre but maybe that's how it works on a Sicilian farm, who am I to say. It just looked ridiculous for Salvatore to be doing EVERYTHING.

Lastly, we did experience one gaff that I'm sure won't happen again. The assistant manager who was relatively new was left on her own and was not properly trained to use the credit card machine. We then had to wire payment to their account a few days after our stay which cost us an additional $40. Pretty disappointing that they did not offer to pay that expense. Instead they can read this review!

And perhaps some day they'll figure out that the sounds of the countryside are more pleasing than elevator music amplified across the courtyard. This may be more of a pet peeve of mine, because I don't need music to enjoy nature and its surroundings. Especially when it's OOM PA PA music. At least put on some opera (It's Italy!).

It's worth the stay, but it's not perfect.

The grounds are beautiful, the view is wonderful, the old maestros is gorgeous.... But the rooms don't quite live up to the standards. The breakfast was amazing, as was the dinner. They make thier own olive oil, jams, etc.

Rooms are basic.

What a nice stay we had at Masseria Susafa! The highlight of the trip for us, away from the busy towns. We spent a few enjoyable, leisurely days there charging our batteries by the amazing pool. The place is very peaceful, located amongst the rolling hills in the middle of the island. Certainly it's quite a distance from just about anywhere, so a car is a must. But the views are truly magnificent and the B&B itself very nice. The farm is getting modernized and partly turned into a hotel with very good taste; classy, yet staying true to the heritage of the farm. The farm itself is still very much active and the products can be enjoyed in the restaurant at all times. The kitchen was high quality, with plenty of treats to offer. The breakfast was excellent. Manfredi and Silvia are running the place great, and it seems effortless for them to spend time with the guests.

Enjoyed a family reunion at this agritourism B&B. We had 16 family members, including 3 children under the age of 10, everyone enjoyed their clean comfortable rooms and the refreshing pool. The staff took great care to make sure our stay was wonderful. We enjoyed daily breakfasts and many sumptuous dinners served by the professional chef and staff. English-speaking Sylvia, was a huge help with communicating with Sicilian-speaking staff and other services off the property. The views are stellar. We highly recommend staying here and consider taking a cooking class with the chef.

We booked three nights over the internet and hoped the pictures weren't too far from reality. It turned out that reality was even better. The service is absolutely amazing, the atmosphere warm and welcoming and the food excellent. After dinner guests usually hang around the incredible fireplace, enjoy wine or any other drink and talk. When you look for a beautiful place to mix relaxation with good food and a cosy atmosphere Masseria Susafa is where you have to go.

After we left this Agriturismo we despreately tried to find something similar on our tour and failed. I think it is by far the best value for your money in the western part of Sicily.
