“Lack of detail lets this place down”
Reviewed May 3, 2011

The hotel itself was fine. I can't complain about the location, standard of amenities or complimentary slippers.

What really let this hotel down was the restaurant menu. As a spa / resort in the middle of of countryside I was expecting "farm fresh" healthy types of dishes, such as vegetables grown in the neighboring village or local specialty meats and eggs. Instead the menu was a standard European hotel restaurant type affair. In all fairness though, the dish which I finally had to settle on was cooked very well.

Still not quite sure what to make of this hotel really. Yes it is nice but I don't think its really overly special.
Location - to be frank it is in the middle of nowhere. The village of Miliou is a few houses and 1 taverna and is up a very steep hill, torch and hiking boots required. the other nearby village of gioliu had a little more but is a few km's away. A car is essential here, there are some lovely spots to explore out and about and if you're into hiking it's good, but a gentle stroll to local bars, restaurants etc is impossible.
Food - was very good, if a little over-ambitious. Breakfast was great, whatever cooked dishes you wanted plus a good spread of cold options. We were half board so had the dinner included and had the chef's reccomendations both nights (although there was the option to choose from the menu up to €40). we had bread with dips, an amuse bouche (spring roll first night, samosa second night) then 3 courses. the first night it was sea bass or duck and both were very nice. the second night was kind of 3 things in one, so 3 ways with duck which my husband had and it was ok and I had 3 ways with seafood which was also ok, but both far too ambitious and too many flavours. I was wanting more traditional Cypriot food making the most of local ingredients rather than overly fancy trying too hard cooking.
The bar was virtually deserted, possibly because of the very high prices for drinks compared to outisde the hotel. the atmosphere over all was rather subdued.
Rooms - we had an original room which is one of the monks rooms, which was nice and a little different. we struggled with the temperature controls though as the room was too hot or too cold and never just right. We had the "healing waters" on tap in the bathroom but actually using the bath and shower was awkward beacuse of where the handrail, shower fixtures and taps have been placed on the wall in very impractical places.
We didn't use the pool as it was bad weather nor did we use the spa.
I don't think it offers great value for money however if you get reasonable prices it makes a change from the usual beach hotels and if you want to explore by car the surrounding villages it is a good base. If you want complete relaxation you will get it as it is quiet and totally peaceful.

The hotel is situated in a quiet location up the mountains but not very far from the beach. We stayed here for our anniversary weekend and we loved it. Will definately go back. When we requested something for the room they brought it to us in 5 minutes. The room was spacious and clean and the little veranda outside was a lovely place to sit.

Will go back again one day.

The location and tranquility of the hotel made the 4 days I stayed there a real "getaway". But the spa is not run well. After the first treatment, I decided I wouldn't give the spa any more of my money. The best part of the premises is the relaxation room. Too many things were wrong with everything else, not enough time to write them down.
It's a pity; if run and designed better, the spa could had been great.
Something else: I paid for the more expensive room (monks' cells -even though nothing reminds one of anything like that anymore). At the same time, a friend was staying in the cheaper (standard) room, therefore I could compare rooms. They were exactly the same thing, other than a smaller bed and an extra tap of natural mineral water which springs in the area (may I say that outside the hotel that water had a distinct smell, yet inside the room it didn't). I don't believe the difference in price between rooms was really justified and the description 'monk cell room' is misleading.
Other than that the hotel stuff was very accommodating and helpful.
The bar and restaurant are both very expensive, but in Miliou and Kathika there are taverns as an alternative.

We traveled to Ayii Anargyroi to celebrate our friend's birthday. We spent there two days. The hotel is indeed very tranquil-maybe more than we could bear. The rooms are average. Very minimal style-it adds to the tranquility of the whole project-nevertheless, they are equipped only with the basics. The dinner was what we more disliked. As you don't have much of a choice if you want to have dinner somewhere else, hotel's restaurant turned out to be our only choice. They offered a buffet menu for the price of 36 euro per person, which we found a bit pricy but we decided to give it a try. Big mistake. The food was terrible. They tried to offer some traditional dishes, but the result was disappointing. We referred to the restaurant's manager for our complaints. His response was far from being professional. The breakfast was again nothing special. The spa experience was average. Our overall comment was that we could get a better place to stay for the some or even less money.

My husband and I stayed at the hotel for one night over the weekend, the hotel itself is really lovely, beautiful surroundings, peaceful and a perfect get-away from it all place. We arrived and were greeted by the porter and taken to reception where we were given beautifully scented orange-blossom hot towels. I went to visit the bathroom and noticed that the lights were all closed throughout the journey from reception to the bathrooms and once inside it was pitch black! Next the size of the toilets in the whole hotel were tiny, I have no idea why!!

We were taken to our room that was a good size with a sofa and flat screen TV. No tea or coffee making facilities, HUGE bathroom and the tiniest toilet and bath with flimsy curtain rail you could imagine (the shower was good though). Lovely comfy bed but as our room faced the car park I was a bit surprised that we didnt have any muslin curtains for privacy and people coming into reception could see right into our room. You could only watch the TV from the sofa and not from the bed at all and there was no TV channel menu to be seen. The wardrobes had slippers and robes and a safe which was good.

We decided to have a drink in the bar, again, no lights, no staff around it felt like the hotel was closed and were were just walking around!! Eventually someone came and took our order and lit the fire in the bar which was nice and cosy. We then went to have lunch, no lights on in there either!! Real skeleton staff on duty, they finally saw that we were sitting there and came and took our order - which then took 1 hour to arrive. Be aware of this!

I had a couple of treatments in the spa, the girl arrived 10 minutes late and finished the treatments early so instead of 65 mins as the catalogue said it was more like 45 mins which I wasnt too impressed about. The relaxation room in the spa is lovely, really lovely with fantastic views, chilled out music, really comfy armchairs with footrests.

We booked dinner in the cellar restaurant which I would definitely recommend over the other one. The menus and prices are the same but the cellar is romantic and intimate and a lovely setting. Again, the dinner took over an hour to arrive, the waitresses were "OK" but not the level I would expect from a hotel of this calibre or by the extortionate prices they charge for the dishes. The main meal itself was delicious but we arrived at 8pm and were served at 9.30pm so at that point I was starving!

Our night was very comfortable apart from 2 couples in a room 2 down from ours were having some kind of party and making loads of noise at 1.30pm with no regard for the guests but that isnt the fault of the hotel. Apart from that we had a very comfortable sleep indeed. We only had 1 toilet roll in our bathroom for the whole stay which again was a bit tight.

Breakfast was good, a good choice of hot and cold items & delicious fresh orange juice from their orange groves.

Be aware that you cant get mobile signal in a lot of the hotel and rooms, also they had run out of wi-fi cards and could only offer a cable for the laptop. I wasnt too bothered as I had gone there to relax and it turned out to be a very good thing!!

All in all I really liked the hotel but there were too many things that were due to lack of attention to detail that I cant ignore. I cant say that I will return to the hotel in a hurry, the staff are not the level I would expect (no training on customer service or many smiles), they provided more like a 2-3 star service in a top notch looking hotel. Also the prices are far too high for what you actually get.

Welcome to a dream – a dream that unfolded in 1983. We cordially invite you to steep yourself within a vision that will bring relaxation, health, well-being and no little luxury. In the spring of 2009 Ayii Anargyri Spa resort opened its doors and present the world with a sublime experience. Set in a valley of mature trees, the resort offers a unique retreat, a place of profound calm and the opportunity to enjoy the health-giving waters which have benefited visitors for so many years. This boutique hotel with accommodation for 150 guests in Suites or Classic rooms, has dedicated spa facilities in the grounds, a generous swimming pool and conference facilities for 50 people. Cuisine from locally grown produce will reveal all that is best in traditional Cypriot fare – food that is garden fresh, nutritious, flavorsome. The hotel provides the means to benefit from the time-tested remedies of the mineral rich waters which flow here – but there is so much more. An abundance of scenic attractions will delight any nature lover. Also outdoor pursuits like cycling, walking and bird watching are just a few other possibilities to make your stay a tonic for body and mind. History of healing: The Spa was first formally opened in 1649 by two brothers, Cosmas and Damianos. Their generosity in offering treatment often without thought of reward gave rise to the name Anargyri – without silver. They became known and loved locally for their selfless acts and affectionately known as saints. In the 19th century the waters were properly analyzed and did indeed contain health-giving minerals. Now the new luxury spa will offer a variety of treatment rooms and therapies many involving the sulphur water which rises naturally nearby in this tranquil setting. Ayii Anargyri has something unique. From the Cyprus hillside, a mineral-rich spring carries the soothing waters renowned for generations for their healing qualities. This remarkable stream has been channeled to the new spa where it is combined in numerous treatments now advanced by modern science. The waters are beneficial for joint or muscle discomfort and some circulatory problems. The therapies are natural and non invasive. ... more   less
