Owner description: You might hear this garden before you see it; its delightfully eccentric owner,Anthony Hunte BCH, plays classical music throughtout the garden. this is the working end of old Castle Grant plantation, where sugar cane was once processed into syrup. Step through the gate and you'll soon tread on the old weigh bridge, where loads of cane were tallied. Just past the old stone outbuildings, where statues lurk among exotic plants, you'll find yourself on the lip of a great, hemispherical sinkhole in the limestone substrate. Steps lead down and paths branch out through an exquisite profusion of flowering plants, with towering trees around the edges. Both here and farther along the top are a series of small secret gardens, where you can sit to absorb the serenity and enjoy a picnic. Be sure to climb the upper level steps to Mr. Hunte's house, a transformation of the old stables. He'll invite you for refreshments-including his legendary rum punch or freshly made lemonade (for sale)-on his glorious, antique studded verandah overlooking the garden. If you're lucky, he'll tell you tales, and you will surely leave with some of your own. If you're driving, follow the red and white signs that read Hunte's Gardens, from all over the island. Or, come by taxi. If you take the local bus from the Fairchild Street Bus Stand in Bridgetown it's #5 Sugar Hill Bus - Bds$2 each way.

The day my husband and myself went was over cast so ideal for this place
The nice gardener give us a choice of music and of we set ,it was beautiful and well worth the visit ,the only down side was the wind got up then it rained cats and dogs and to top it off hundred year trees started to fall which where about 100 ft tall .at that point we made a dash back to the start much to the gardeners relief .
We are pleased to say we will be back in a few days to give the Gardner time to clear the paths so we can compete our visit

My husband and I visited in July and were greeted by Anthony in his inimitable style. It was a delight to wander around and the classical music playing was very relaxing. There were only a handful of us wandering around which was great. After we finished taking lots of photos we wandered up to be entertained by Anthony and some lovely older American ladies who were also visiting. The house is such an eclectic mix which suits its owner to a tee. We visited many places in Barbaods and this was truly one of our top places to recommend to anyone.

We visited the gardens in July 2013, and had the place to ourselves! Peaceful beautiful gardens with amazing flowers and little spots to soak up the atmosphere:-) memorable experience that I often think of and smile :-) and Antony makes you feel very welcome and makes the experience personal. Will hopefully visit again one day!

Who uses plants as his palette. He has created one of the most beautiful gardens - if not the most beautiful garden in the Caribbean. In the enclosed surroundings of a sink hole he has managed to create a truly magnificent garden full of colour, texture and shape. The garden has a profusion of viewing spots with chairs that allow you to soak up the views from every angle. Allow yourself plenty of time to do this garden justice and then enjoy a rum punch on the veranda.

The gardens are beautiful and the atmosphere is just perfect. But its the host Anthony that really makes this such a unique and enjoyable place to visit. This was a definite highlight of our time in Barbados.
