Owner description: You might hear this garden before you see it; its delightfully eccentric owner,Anthony Hunte BCH, plays classical music throughtout the garden. this is the working end of old Castle Grant plantation, where sugar cane was once processed into syrup. Step through the gate and you'll soon tread on the old weigh bridge, where loads of cane were tallied. Just past the old stone outbuildings, where statues lurk among exotic plants, you'll find yourself on the lip of a great, hemispherical sinkhole in the limestone substrate. Steps lead down and paths branch out through an exquisite profusion of flowering plants, with towering trees around the edges. Both here and farther along the top are a series of small secret gardens, where you can sit to absorb the serenity and enjoy a picnic. Be sure to climb the upper level steps to Mr. Hunte's house, a transformation of the old stables. He'll invite you for refreshments-including his legendary rum punch or freshly made lemonade (for sale)-on his glorious, antique studded verandah overlooking the garden. If you're lucky, he'll tell you tales, and you will surely leave with some of your own. If you're driving, follow the red and white signs that read Hunte's Gardens, from all over the island. Or, come by taxi. If you take the local bus from the Fairchild Street Bus Stand in Bridgetown it's #5 Sugar Hill Bus - Bds$2 each way.

I believe this would be a wonderful place to propose. A beautiful, quiet garden, well tended, with several places to sit and look at the flowers. This is not a place to go for a jog as you would have completed the exercise in 5 minutes, but if you are looking for a place to sit, daydream, chat, relax or have an important discussion, this would fit the bill. Background classical music adds another dimension to the experience. We spent an afternoon watching the birds and the flowers, letting time go by. We felt energized as we walked out a few hours later.

Never expected to be so blown away, thought there would be fabulous vegetation but the dimension was unreal. Anthony Hunte worked magic on this property and it is impossible to be disappointed by this heaven on earth.

Hunte's Gardens is an enchanting, magical place and a haven of peace.
As you wander around, the feint classical music, birdsong and the gentle breeze in the palms makes the experience so much more than 'visiting a garden'. The king palms, vibrant tropical plants, stunning flowers and tiny delicate ferns jostle for space in an eclectic mixture of containers amongst artwork and water features. Dead-end pathways lead to secluded shady seating; sit and stare.
Antony Hunte was enthusiastic and in his element sharing his stories on the veranda overlooking the garden whilst we enjoyed home made lemonade and rum punch. The dining room in the converted stables is open to the elements, the table is 'set' but it is as if the 'ghostly guests' left last century. Wonderful and atmospheric. A perfect location for a private function or for a couple of hours relaxation in appreciation of a dedicated nurseryman's, own Garden of Eden.

Beautiful gardens, best I've ever visited, The planting is sheer genius, Anthony Hunte is a very talented Horticultural Artist with amazing vision, The riot of colour, textures, water features, hidden seating areas, is clearly magical. I enjoyed a very entertaining afternoon on Mr Hunte's front porch, with the help of a few rum punches, swapping stories with fellow travellers, most in agreement that this is probably the best garden we have all seen. Travelling with my husband and grown up son it was so good we went back. Check out the home made marmalade, also Hunte's 10 year old rum WOW, does what it says on the bottle, warms the cockles of your heart. So good we decided to buy a bottle to keep for my Grand daughters 21 st Birthday (she's nearly two),which Mr Hunte kindly signed. Best attraction in Barbados Entrance 30BDS Rum 60BDS.

This garden was recommended by a friend of ours to visit, it was well worth the drive!
The plants are amazing and I took some lovely photos.
Anthony is a real character and made us feel very welcome. Lovely rum punch, we could have spent all afternoon there chatting on his veranda!
