After a terrible start to our holiday, we were transfered from Almond Beach Village to Fairmont Glitter Bay and were delighted with what met our eyes on the first morning. I have never known staff so willing and helpful with always a friendly smile and attitude towards guests and their work. We had originally planned to get married at Almond Beach Village and in transfering didn't know whether it would still go ahead. However John who was the consierge and wedding co-ordinator told us that there would be no problem and we left everything in his hands, and they certainly made it a day to remember, the location by the lilly pond was fantastic, all the wedding flowers were beautiful in fact to say that John only had two days to organise it ....what more can I say. It was 'our day' and we were made to feel very special indeed.

The room that we had was very comfortable with ample space even with 2 boys aged 11 and 10 who had their own beds in the lounge and there was still plenty of room.

The restaurants - a little disappointing as it was a set menu for 2 weeks although the quality of the food was excellent. If you were on the meal plan reception could give you vouchers to eat at three other restaurants that were a short taxi ride away one is Carambola and would highly recommend this, the setting is stunning and you can hob nob with the rich and famous here.

The beach was outstanding and nothing was too much trouble for the staff to get you your sun lounger or drinks and lunch or even a jet ski. Complimentary watersports if you were a guest at both Glitter Bay and the Royal Pavillion.

We made some lovely friends both guests and staff and my youngest son played football with Wes Brown of Manchester United.

All in all it was the best holiday that my family and I have had and will return sometime in the near future.

My wife and I spent 5 nights in the Venitian Room at the Beach House at the Fairmont Glitter Bay resort over the 2004 Memorial Day weekend and had a fabulous time.

I highly recommend the Beach House. It is beachfront and is separated from the ocean by a picturesque tree-lined retaining wall and a few rows of coral rocks. A walk down a 30 foot path puts you right on the beach where there are palm trees, umbrellas, beach chairs, and food and beverage service. To the front of the Beach House is a beautiful grassy yard and garden complete with a water lilly pond, palm trees, and stone gazebo (which is a little moss-covered and in slight disrepair, but makes for great pictures). You can park your car, if you have one, right beside the Beach House. The staff was wonderful and attentive, both at Glitter Bay and at the Royal Pavilion. Our rooms were well cleaned in the mornings and our beds were turned down in the evenings. There were plenty of towels in the room and on the beach at all times.

The watersports (boat ride, snorkeling, catamaran, windsurfing) were a good plus. Beach vendors approached us 2-3 times a day, but were not too pushy or too bothersome.

There were some negatives. The Piperade restaraunt (a stones throw from the Beach House) was not impressive. We had drinks there but never ordered from the menu because there were 3 or 4 stray cats freely roaming around the restaurant and the atmosphere was more casual than what we wanted. The Palm Terrace at the Royal Pavillion, on the other hand, was very classy and the atmosphere was upscale (and the one cat I saw there, if that is any indication of quality, was a Siamese). The afternoon tea at the Palm Terrace was much more pleasant than the tea at the Piperade and the 3-minute walk to get there from the Beach House was well worth it.

Also, the gym was nice to have, but only 1 of 3 treadmills and 1 of 3 cycles were in working order. The free weights and Nautilus equipment were fine.

Glitter Bay is definitely more family-oriented the the Royal Pavillion. The Royal Pavillion is more upscale, has a more exclusive feel, and is much more romantic, than the main Glitter Bay rooms, which would be acceptable for a family outing with the kids. However, I would definitely stay at the Glitter Bay Beach House over the rooms at the Royal Pavillion because the Beach House is so beautiful and exclusive.

This was a really beautiful place with friendly, attentive service. Although the suite that we shared with our kids was modest (a/c only in the bedroom), the set-up of the resort was wonderful. Pool, beautiful beach and watersports all a few steps from your door. The staff was always ready to attend to your every need, the complimentary afternoon tea was a delight, and if you want something a little more formal, the Pavillion is right next door. All in all, this was a fabulous spot!

Our family stayed at the Fairmont Glitter Bay prior to a Silversea cruise out of Barbados-part of a package arranged through Luxurylink.
The high points: -beach rather nice -nice pool -understanding and concerned general manager

Low points (only the most important listed)- -Employees seem to care not one iota about guests -no towels for 36 hours -poor, poor food -pool being epoxyed and repaired without any concern for guest comfort or safety -homely, hot rooms that need repair -a children's area right next to the employee dressing area with contract workers walking through without any form of identification. Only a matter of time until a tragedy occurs. -desk staff get kickbacks for arranging high taxi fares (told to me by two sepaqrate drivers. Cannot confirm). -awful area for conferences.

The trouble with this resort is that it is a timeshare, and somehow Fairmont has allowed its name to be slapped on this resort. The manager, an extremely understanding gentleman, stated that no money has gone into renovations because there are over twenty separate owners of this resort.

I would stay far away from this resort. The Fairmont next door is quite nice in fact.

Please feel free to e-mail me for any questions
