It is quite challenge, completely different from European standards, however it was brilliant to see how Barbadian spend their Friday evening.

We were recommended to go to 'Fish Fry Friday' which we did on our first night and we fortunately stumbled across Uncle Georges (right next to the fish market end) What an experience, the atmosphere was amazing and the food was out of this world. We weren't sure what to do and queued up to get served and the sat down at the tables where ever you can get in. We enjoyed it so much that we visited it every other night out of a fortnight, same delicious food every night but not as busy as Friday. The fish is amazing, Flying fish, Marlin, Dolphin, Lobster to name a few and you can choose a side dish of Macaroni Pie, Fish Pie or many more. This is a very special place not to be missed so much fun so many friendly people and excellent. A huge thank you to Steve who looked after us SO well. Can't wait to return.

While visiting Barbados this past May, my group and I were suggested by our taxi driver to Oistin's Friday Night Fish Fry. We were staying at the Divi Southwinds and dined out most evenings. The drive to the Oistin's area was about 30 mins from our location. We arrived at about 7pm and the place was already full of tourist, locals, fishermen, musicians and restaurant staff. Oistin's is located seaside and is a open air market with multiple vendors and seating available. We were told by our taxi driver to be sure to select George's for our dinner. We found George's and the line was long, possibly the longest of the vendors. Most sell the same type of food (fried seafood and fish, chicken, some beef and pork was also available there was also an abundance of sides and desserts). Drinks, from beer and mixed drinks to soft drinks are also for sale by most vendors. We ordered, the food was very fresh and flavorful (I had a sample platter of lobster, shrimp and flying fish) found a table and enjoyed the evening. There was live music, friendly people and lots of people watching. Our taxi driver came back for us after we made a call to his cell phone. There are many other taxi drivers there on hand so his return was not necessary, we could have found a ride back easily. Most vendors accept cash.

Our meals at the fish fry were better than that at Champers and for a fraction of the price. This is certainly not fine dining though as the food is served in styrofoam takeout containers. We learned that the food shacks in Oistin are open throughout the week, so if you're not up for a huge crowd, head there on another day. The fish is incredibly fresh. I had the Blue Marlin and the wife had Mahi Mahi.

The bottom line is, make sure to make Oistin part of your experience while in Barbados. Ask your taxi driver to recommend the right shack or just follow the lines.
