“A pleasant surpirse :-)”
Reviewed June 6, 2008

We were a little apprehensive having read some negative remarks on this site however, those people are just nit picking and down scoring far too easily....

We stayed in Exec. level for 7 nights over Easter with an oceanview.

I'll get straight to the point.

Positives

The rooms were lovely.

The pool and beach area is superb.

The breakfast in the exec lounge was adequate for our needs, we could've had a voucher to go for the buffet for little cost but we don't like to gorge ourselves silly on holiday. It (exec breakfast) starts at 7am I think, best to get there early so you get first pick.

Service by the pool was very fast and very friendly, being Easter the hotel was busy too but it still proved no problem.

We loved the bar just off the lobby.

The food at the grille was nice when we got it right, first time it came out stone cold. They put it right and the manager came over to apologise and offer us something to make up for it.

Location, for me this is a positive, it a BD$20 cab ride to the gap. It's close to Bridgetown and not too bad for getting to the West Coast. From this location you can choose where you want to be and have it hectic or otherwise.

Brown Sugar restaurant just outside the Hilton - fantastic restaurant and reasonable priced.

The gym was far better than I expected, even had a concept 2 rower which is a rareity in most hotel gyms. plenty of other CV equipment and weights were available.
----

Negatives.

Barbados Blue watersports. You have to trek outside the hotel, over the carpark to get there (you may be able to walk all the way arround the penninsula/beach too). When you get there, even if staying at the hotel you find you need to hand over a deposit to use equipment.

They do not let you take a kayak out on your own, bit of a problem for me as my wife doesn't like watersports and I have never encountered this problem anywhere else.

Exec lounge serving soft drinks throughout the day, very sparse offerings, not much left out and you really do have to keep asking to get anything.

Exec lounge (again) although not the fault of the hotel. The evening snacks seem to be treated as a dinner buffett by the majority of greedy guests. When they run out (which is very quickly) it takes a long time for them to be replenished. Beer is plentiful though (Heineken and Banks).

-----------------
Despite the few negatives we still rated our stay as 5*. The few negatives were not enough to knock it down or spoil our enjoyment.

We've booked for next year and out stay coincides with the England Cricket test in Barbados too.
For 2009 we have ditched the exec level, it's not really worth paying extra but if you score a free upgrade you're laughing.
We just have a standard king with ocenview booked and got a good rate. Rates have just risen sharply for the time we are there due to the cricket so we timed it just right.

We just returned from our stay in Barbados and we absolutely loved it! The hotel and beach were gorgeous. The waves are a little harsh for swimming, but still beautiful.

The hotel is nice and spotless. Very nice rooms with high ceilings. Upon our arrival late in the evening, everything was very quiet. There is not much going on in the evenings so you will need to venture out. The staff was all right - I have had better service from other Hilton hotels so we were disappointed with the level of friendliness. We had to be asked to be upgraded (I am a gold member) to the executive floor; they will not upgrade unless you ask apparently.

The food is very, very expensive. Burgers will run about $20 - so be prepared. However, on Thursday evenings, they have a beach BBQ that is wonderful. It includes entertainment while you sit on the beach with torches. We highly recommend it.

Executive suite is nice and it overlooks the ocean. Take advantage of it if you can.

Overall, venture out to the "Gap" for great food and entertainment. Cabs are spendy, especially if you go to multiple places in one night.

Family of 4 inc children aged 6 and 2.

Just returned from 2 weeks at the Hilton Barbados.

I can recommend this hotel to everyone, it was excellent in every area. The room (lighthouse beach view) was spacious( for 4), very clean and well appointed, the view of the beach from the balcony was magnificent and well worth the 20bbd per night upgrade cost.
The hotel grounds and communial areas were spotless and beautifully designed and maintained.
The service from the maid to the bell boy to the bar staff, restaurant chefs and hotel management was the best i have recieved anywhere. Every single person employed by this hotel that i came into contact with were incredibly polite and helpful, they are of great credit to the bajan peoples attitude to life and to the Hilton group. The beach and pool areas beautiful and are well designed, never overcrowded, child frendly and safe.
The meals ranged from good to exceptional. The breakfast (lighthouse) was excellent with huge choice and high on quality. Only ate one other meal in this restaurant and it was good but no better. We ate in the grill on 3 occasions and the quality of the food was quite exceptional, the steak was as food as anything you will get in a 3star michelin restaurant.
Outside the hotel it was more of the same excellent service superb food and signifcant visa card damage (worth every penny).

Places i recommend highly are
restaurants
Aqua, Opa, Hilton grill, champers, waterside (bridgetown)
Things to do
Hire a car (approx £70) for the day and ensure you visit Bathsheba on the east coast quite beautiful and a nice drive if you come in from the north end of the island ( go up the west coast past the sandy lane an westmorland hotels and cut across.)

All in all a great holiday in a wonderful hotel on a fantastic island, its not cheap but you get value for money as the quality is so very high in all areas.

Lovely position on a great beach. Rooms ok but not always replenished. Spent 2 days without towels or face cloths or not enough towels or no coffee making items. Told house keeping who filled up but same thing happen the next day. Staff in the Dining rooms and bars are always friendly and curtious. Reception staff came from a different world. Not friendly, not helpful and when we were overcharged by $500 not apologetic. When they did the same on the next bill not a word like "sorry" did we hear. Shame really, a long way to travel and quite a lot of money spent on a hotel that just does not "COME UP TO SCRATCH"

My wife and I just came back yesterday from a 6-night stay at the Hilton Barbados for our honeymoon. Since I'm a Diamond member of the Hilton HHonor program, I expected to be upgraded to Executive floor. When we arrived, all the standard rooms on the Executive floors were not available. Instead of moving us to a standard floor, the management there upgraded us to a beautiful corner suite on the Executive floor. I have to say that it was one of the best suites I've been in. It has two separate bathrooms, two separate balconies all looking over the ocean. And of course, the bedroom was big and comfortable. In addition, the management also sent us a complimentary champagne. The Hilton has two beaches - one is a little rough (good for surf boarding) and the other one is just right for swimming. We only used the upper deck swimming pool and it is very nice.

We used the Executive Lounge on the 8th floor for our breakfasts and in the evening to wind down our days. The manager there was very nice and very courteous. We felt so welcome there in the Executive Lounge. The staffs were also very nice as well. We never had any problem from the reception desk, to tour desk, to waitresses at restaurant and pool side.

Along the same line with other reviews, the food is quite expensive there so be prepared to spend up to $20 US just for a burger. In the evening, the Hilton is pretty quiet (and quite boring I might add). I wish that the Hilton should have had live band every night complimentary for all guests to enjoy.

Over all, we had a lovely time in Barbados, and the Hilton in particular.

My wife and I stayed at the Hilton from 5/21 thru 5/28. It is a great hotel, with views of the ocean from every room. Try to request the lighthouse tower side. Everyone is very friendly and helpful, especially, Adrian, the Bellman, and Peter, the Security Officer.

You have to try the Adventureland Safari. It costs $60 U.S. per person. The drivers are funny and knowlegable. They give you Rum punch and you have lunch. They also give you a bottle of Cockspur Rum.

We were disappointed with the Atlantis Submarine. You couldn't see that many fish, and it wasn't that clear.

The Tiamini cruise is excellent. You'll have a great time. Try to do that on a Sunday, it's less crowded.

If you want to rent a waverunner ($50 1/2 hr. $100 hr. U.S.) rent them from Barbados Blue. There's a couple guys that are on the beach, in front of the pool steps.

I would recommend these restaurants: Bellini's (Italian), great food and service. Pisces (Seafood), and Brown Sugar (Local), great food and romantic. Try the ice cream for dessert, it is fabulous.

Oistin's fish fry is a must also. Good food, cheap prices.

Take the local Blue buses ($1.50 BD), instead of taxi's, if you can. The taxi's cost between $10 - $30 U.S. The buses will take you eveywhere, just ask the driver if you're not sure where your stop is.

The only negative things about the Hilton was the housekeeping. We came back to our room on ocassion and they didn't give us new towels. I had to find a housekeeper to get some. Be aware of all of the drinking glasses in your room. I think that all they do is wipe them out with a towel, instead of replacing them. You can see the fuzz from the towel inside the glass. The ice bucket is the same. Rinse them out with hot water before using.

My wife and I stayed at the Hilton for seven days the second week of may 08. We had a suite which was very nice with two balconies overlooking the ocean and pool. We had no problems with any of the employees of the hotel, but I must say the prices of food are very expensive. The restaurants on the property were fair at best and the prices quite high. The 2 pools and the beach were very nice but if you go to the beach the water is pretty rough. If you like boogy boarding its great, but not to swim. The beach located around the point from the Hilton ( Pebble Beach ) was much calmer and you will be able to swim there. We went to the Executive Lounge each evening around 7:30 Pm , plenty to drink but they were very slow about bringing out anything to eat. We went out to dinner at Pices, Belini's and Champers (several times) and the meals and service were pretty good. BEWARE when you take a taxi cab---you should ask the driver the price before you get into the cab. Cabs are not cheap --- a ride into St Lawrence Gap from the Hilton and back is approx $25 dollars (US) without tip. We were fortunate because we had great drivers during our stay. TWO other things, the bed in the room was VERY HARD and tough to sleep on. Also check your final bill as extra charges are added without your knowledge and if you dont ask about it you will be making a donation for something you did not authorize. The Staff were very friendly and helpful.
