“Great food”
Reviewed February 10, 2012

We used this restaurant during our stay at Sugar Cane Club hotel where it is based. Breakfast was a mixture of cereals, fruit and cooked. Lunch was a la carte and based around snacks and light meals. Dinner was a la carte or poolside buffet.
Both lunch and dinner had daily specials and a 'catch of the day' fish special.
All meals were freshly cooked and very tasty, whether it was just a snack, part of the special Caribbean/Bajan buffet, or one of the a al carte dishes.
All with a lovely openair view over the pool with the sea in the background.
Very impressive.

“Bajan dreams"”
Reviewed January 1, 2010

In your dreams are you on a tropical island hearing the crickets and frogs hiding in tropical gardens call you to dinner? Have you had your rum punch in the white washed bar and are now being seated at a softly lit table ? Are you perusing a menu offering French influenced Bajan cuisine whilst sipping a chilled glass of wine? Wake from the dream ! You are at LA SALSA restaurant at the Sugar Cane Club Hotel near Speightstown on Barbados. You are not the only person who has beeen dreaming. The young Executive chef Yann Arminjon ( A Bajan classically French trained in Canada) has dreamt up some wonderful dishes to tempt you. Will you begin with soup? Hot pumkin or cold cucumber? What next? Rum-infused veal liver pate or citrus-sesame tuna? Then to follow how about a steak which will be as tender as marshmallow? No? Tonight you will choose pan fried seared Kingfish with garlic mashed potato. Or are you tempted by succulent pork loin with basmati rice. Have you left room for dessert? Hope so; because coming to your table is a raspberry pan a cotta and caramailsed banana with rum and raisin ice cream.
Of course , if you are staying in the small hotel atop a coral reef hill you know you can look forward to lunches of Caesar Salad with blackened ( spiced) shrimp; Bajan soup (pumpkin, chicken, celery and dumplings); fried catch-of-the day ( maybe it's Marlin, mahi mahi, tuna or flying fish: brought at 11pm the night before just as Chef was locking up. Delivered by an enterprising fisherman who'd cycled up the hill from the shore.)
Just to stop you feeling homesick there may be Shepard's Pie or braised lamb. If you are from the uK you will have dreamt of eating tasty vegetables because only in dreams do the British eat fresh tasty vegetables. At La Salsa your vegetables will have been steamed to order, timed to the second and presented finely sliced to accompany your chosen dish.
Don't write the postcard until you have had the BBQ dinner around the torchlit pool. Chilean red will wash down the sticky Bajan chicken, the juicy pork ribs. Fill up on Macaroni Pie or herby roast potatoes. Finally squeeze in the cherry cobbler with vanilla ice cream. Now wonder down to the gazebo in the garden, Now write that card - live the dream.
