We can only add more praise to the excellent reviews already posted here.

Dar Al Hossoun was the ideal spot to ease into our Moroccan adventure (this being our first ever trip to North Africa). It is also simply the most enchanting setting to get away from it all - as Ollivier, our host, confessed he can easily go for weeks without leaving the sanctuary and peace of the gardens, and it is very easy to see why. His informative tour of the gardens stayed with us for the rest of our trip providing a fascinating insight into other gardens and plants we saw in Morocco.

With such welcoming and wonderful service, fabulous food and playful pets, there’s really no need to go any further. But Taroudant is well worth a visit. The Sunday market was fascinating, and a short bike ride gave us a taste of the surrounding area plus great views of the mountains. More than anything it was wonderful to meet the local people who were incredibly friendly.

And we must give a special mention to Mohamed our super taxi driver, Ollivier organised everything and we had an amazing journey over the Tizi n’Test pass to Marrakesh.

We’ll definitely be back…

There are few places which exceed reviews and their own website, but this is has to be one of them! One of the loveliest places I have had the privilege to stay at

Dar al Hossoun is clearly a work of love and the current owners continue this tradition. Ollivier and Thierry are charming hosts and the people who work with them were consistently friendly and helpful. The atmosphere is that of being a guest in the home of a discreet friend.

The long pool set in one of the gardens is a lovely place to while away warm afternoons, whilst fireplaces in the main areas and rooms take off the evening chill. The cooking is varied and was consistently superb. Meals can be taken indoors or on the main terrace.

Generally taken with other guests, they can also set up space a-deux and for special occasions organize dinner under the pergola by the sunken garden, a magical option.

With two hammams on-site and the possibility to organize excellent massages and other treatments, Dar al Hossoun’s main danger is that you might not venture out much.

However, if you chose to – there are bikes which can be rented and Ollivier can make suggestions and help organize excursions.

Taroundant is an interesting, non-descript, friendly town with impressive walls and a jaw-dropping backdrop of the atlas – the perfect antidote to some of Morocco’s more tourist-ed areas. If you are there on Sunday, the weekly market is an interesting place to explore.

All in all a wonderful end to a more active holiday or the perfect location to recoup.

As for us, well, we will certainly be back!

Dar al Hossoun is a gem. We could not have found a more calming place to stay after a frantic week in Marrakesh. This place is fantastic, the interiors and gardens are exquisite, designed by renowned landscape gardeners. Peacocks, cats, dogs, frogs... roam the sprawling gardens and passageways of this beautiful traditonal riad - renovated with a gentle yet class touch. The owner and staff are very friendly and helpful. The eco credentials (all grey water flows direct into the gardens, and most of their hot water is solar heated) make you feel even better about staying here. The two swimming pools are wonderful and there is a spa and hammam, If you can stay here, do it!

Room Tip: All the rooms are beautiful decorated with local crafts and artefacts, Berber tents line the walls...

> The location : Outside Taroudant. You need a car to go there (5 to 10 mn). Not so easy to find the first time. Very quiet area where you could hear birds and donkey.
> The hotel : Beautiful mix between traditional moroccan interiors and simple design. Perfect hosts. You feel really at home (we were the only guests during our trip). Great food : we had a wonderful and very romantic diner outside near the swimming pool with candles. Unforgettable. The gardens are fantastic.
> The room : Nice room with a fireplace. Great bathroom.
> The breakfast : maybe the only downside. The breakfast was good but compare to the whole experience, we probably waited for more.
