We are planning our fourth family retreat to Pinewood Beach Resort.

My family has been coming to Pinewood since 2006, and the service has been great. Even as our family has grown, the service has continued to be as good as that first time. The rooms are spacious and airy, and the green, cool compound you get outside is unmatched anywhere else. The room decor is also quite unique.

The hotel is far away from all the noise - a great place to unwind and spend some quality time with the family.

Room Tip: Rooms on the ground floor have access to a compound. You can also get a personal chef with some of the rooms.

Stayed for the second time at this lovely resort, the last time several years ago and it is still as good. We arrived in the middle of the night but were still given a spare room to crash out in without any fuss until our huge room was ready. The downstairs suites have a lounge, double shower and a shady terrace with day bed. The staff here are all so helpful and nothing is too much trouble and the resort is small enough to feel personal. The food is great, not a huge choice but all meals are tasty and well cooked and we particularly enjoyed the Mongolian evenings which include fresh prawns cooked in front of you with your choice of spices and sauces and are delicious. The venue changes nightly to add variety. It was my husbands birthday and the staff baked a cake, sang and danced to make the evening extra special. The beach is well down in the south so very peaceful with fewer beach boys than the resorts further north and you can walk along it for miles only seeing the occasional fisherman. We arranged our safari to Governors Camp on the Maasai with JT Safaris just down the road in Ukunda in the 'orange' painted building - our 6th trip with Julius and as usual arranged to perfection and at a brilliant price ( see separate review) . We look forward to returning in the future.

We took our family holiday to Mombasa and our stay at pinewood was just perfect. We had actually planned to stay for two nights and move to another property but the experience and hospitality we received made us change our mind and stay at the resort throughout our entire trip. The staff, the rooms and the general atmosphere was just awesome. Will definitely be staying there during my next vacation

Room Tip: We found the ground suite next to the pool large and comfortable

This was a second visit to this lovely location for our group of six as it’s such a great place to relax after a Safari or for a beach holiday. We had elected for the all inclusive option which we thought was really good value.

This small hotel is well established and we recognised many of the staff from our earlier stay some four years before. All the staff seem happy and very anxious to ensure their guests have a good holiday. The beach is lovely with plenty of shade and sunbeds and the grounds are very well tended. There is a large fresh water swimming pool with swim up bar. The pool is clean and well maintained again with plenty of shade and beds.
Breakfast and dinner are buffet style but the dining location varies between main restaurant, beach restaurant and pool side and each setting has its own lovely and romantic ambience particularly after dark. We much enjoyed the Mongolian and BBQ evenings but they were all good. Lunch is served outside at your table at the restaurant on the beach which has a good and varied menu and again there is plenty of shade and the service is excellent for both food and drinks. Breakfast is served either inside the restaurant or on it's covered terrace where bright yellow weaver birds can be seen weaving their nests.
Our rooms were garden suites (150, 160 & 170) and they were all well appointed with excellent and modern air conditioning systems. The hot water supply failed in my room but it was fixed within 2 hours of reporting. Although the bathrooms were all fully functional we thought they would benefit from some refurbishment. On one evening we dined as a group privately on one of the room terraces and this was most enjoyable.

Pamela manages the hotel very well and was always very responsive and helpful. Her team are all eager to please too. Without exception we had good service from all the staff but John, Tanner(chef), Jeff, Millicent, Nancy, Theresa, Faiz & Isaac all deserve a special mention.
A lovely little hotel on Galu Beach and we will try to visit it again.

After a fab Safari this was just the ticket. Right size, right atmosphere and nice food. What makes the hotel are the staff. Happy helpful and genuine. We all loved Moses the bar man and especially Eunice our regular waitress. The pool is relaxing and well maintained. Rooms are comfortable and ac works well. WiFi is good at the bar and pool. A lovely stay
