I'm surprised by some of the negative reviews. We stayed for three nights and enjoyed it very much. Someone looking for a five star resort, or for a place to be utterly self-indulgent, might be disappointed. We used it as a base for traveling to Mombasa and Diani beach and found it very nice for that purpose. The beach was fine for our purposes -- hanging out an hour or two a day. It isn't a place to play in the surf, because the reef serves as a barrier. On the other hand, this creates a large shallow sound good for walking through to look for starfish and shells (wear footgear to protect against coral and sea urchins). It was quiet at night and the restaurant was perfectly fine. (Service felt very slow to us, but this seems to be standard in the Mombasa region.) The staff were very friendly and responsive. We'd certainly recommend it to anyone looking for a relaxing spot with good basic services and quarters.

The cottages are very spacious, and it is worth doing a Deluxe Cottage since they not only have view of the ocean, but are much closer to the restaurant and pool, otherwise you will have a five minute walk. However, the cottages closest to the ocean and with the best views only have fans, while the ones set further back have air con. Floor was mopped but not swept by the first maid, so it was still a little dirty, but the second guy did a much better job. The "Bar" offers certain alcohols, but does not offer any cocktails, unless you want to buy a coke and mix in rum yourself. Also, the lounge chairs by the pool are very hard plastic with no cushions, and start to get painful after about an hour. The beach is very pretty but is small, not a beach you can take walk down, and there are ALOT of sea urchins, although this is not uncommon for this area. Also, there are no lounge chairs on the beach and no way to move them down there. The food is good, although if you dont want three courses you'll save money by not doing full board. What is nice about this place is how small it is and how private it feels, and the fact that there truly are no beach boys, who can ruin your time on the beach.

Checked in for 2 Nights but ended up staying for 6 nights. Been here 3 times now. The changes and the new Capricho is just out of this world.

Best for people who are looking for exclusivity & privacy...beach ..no beachboys....unbelievable. Will be back to Tiwi Soon.

I have been to Maweni and Capricho every year since 2006 and I must admit the change is amazing. The improvement is amazing to say the least. The cottages, pool and restaurant have all received a beautiful face-lift and the inclusion of hotel-like rooms and a pent-house is a timely advancement. And most of all, the essence of Maweni has not been lost. It still is a serene and peaceful haven, perfect for couples, families or groups of friends looking for removal from normality. I can't wait to take my partner there this year :-)

Its a beautiful place , very quiet and very private. You dont have to go there without a care, its not pleasure to walk in the oven like chalki desert arround.
The beach line cottages are perfekt to enjoy the indian ocean, especialy those on Capricho- with a private barbque.
Morning are local fishermens availible selling all the best of the Sea Food You can imagine. We war 5 times there, and my famili love the place. Not expensive, far from the hotels noise, comfortable place. If you think to use restorant meal, dont go. The cottage kichen is enoigh...
