I stayed three nights at the Serena in February for business. The hotel is a beautiful beach front resort. The rooms have balconies off of them where you can watch the monkey's swinging from the trees. There is a beautiful white sand beach that is private in front of the hotel, wonderful for a morning run.
The food at the hotel is great, with a wide selection of options for all meals. There is live music in the evenings.
The rooms are a little dark but you likely will not be spending much time in the room. There was not an iron available in the room, but the staff kindly pressed my clothes promptly at no charge. Overall, the service and quality of the hotel was great. Would recommend for a vacation.

An almost perfect hotel, lovely location, beautiful rooms, very relaxing and perfect for recharging the batteries. The food is wonderful, especially the breakfasts, and the staff are always so friendly and helpful and remember you from previous years. On a lovely stretch of beach. Highly recommended and will return many times.

The number of repeat customers speaks for itself. The hotel is the most restful place you could imagine. The very friendly staff cannot do enough for you.

It's been a couple of years since my last stay and I was not disappointed. The hotel has maintained it's high standards over the years. The hotel is built in the Swahili style and the layout is rather like old stone towns on the coast, the difference being the the thoughtfully laid out gardens that make walking the paths a delight. There are ponds, archways, creepers and flowers all over the place; perfect for me to practice my photographic skills. If you like gardens, then you will love this hotel, it is not a concrete jungle.

The rooms were in good shape and very comfortable and the air conditioning worked. I had a sea view room and this was separated from the beach by just a short stretch of lawn. Sittingon the first floor balcony to watch the sunrise and then later watch the evening glow of the sunset on the sea was amazing.

The beach was cleaned every day and though there were beach boys all over the place they were generally polite and left one alone if you were firm at saying no to them. This allowed to enjoy walking the length of the magnificent beach, several times a day. The rest of the time was spent lying by the pool, where The food and beverage service there was polite and efficient.

Breakfast was usually a hearty buffet and dinner was a la carte. The menu changed every day and the food was very good, with the polite staff always at hand. Mariam and her team rock.

Transport to and from the hotel was arranged through the hotel and was worth the cost.

It was 4 days well spent.

Room Tip: The sea view rooms are very nice indeed they are much closer to the sea and the pool.

Stayed at Serena Beach Hotel and Spa in October 2011 on business. Hotel is a breath of fresh air! Lots of open spaces and beautiful gardens. We could not get an ocean facing room cause they were all taken up. However we stayed in one of the recently refurbished rooms, much bigger than the ocean facing rooms, excellent air conditioning for the Mombasa heat with all the modern facilities. Once you are in the hotel grounds, you get a feeling of being in a different world, far from the madding crowd!

Service in the main restaurant which serves both breakfast and dinner was amazing; attentive without being intrusive. The waiters are on the ball and the service was prompt despite the huge number of guests in the restaurant at each sitting. The menu is quite extensive and there is everything for everyone. I also appreciated the complimentary tea/coffee in the lounges

I also sampled their Spa and it has "His and Hers" areas and treatment rooms. It is like a stand alone unit, like a day Spa. The staff there were professional, took their time and gave advise on different treatments. I indulged myself in a full body massage and the treatment was very relaxing without being overboard.

The gift shop is well stocked and I appreciated the trust of the lady shop attendant/manager who gave me batteries for my camera to try for more than 3hours to see if they would last before I returned to make payment. Very much appreciated.

I had the opportunity to meet senior management, quite helpful and accommodating. Pity I couldn't stay long but I hope to return before mid year on vacation with my spouse.

Wonderful hotel, willing staff and attentive service. Well done!

Room Tip: Ask for a room further from reception, preferable the recently refurbished ones. Evening entertainme...

I am not normally a beach holiday person, having previously had less than satisfactory trips to "resort hotels" on this coast. Happily the Serena is way above the resort mentality. From the moment of arrival to my reluctant departure, I experienced the very high standards of Serena Service. Staff were friendly and helpful, whether in the dining room, reception, bar, or grounds, there was always a helpfull staff member nearby who was more than willing to help.
My room was at the back corner of the garden area, very spacious, comfortable, and regularly serviced. A large bathroom and a quiet efficient AC unit added to my comfort. WiFi was sometimes a bit poor, but generally ok and good value at KSH1000 per day.
I was on half board and never bothered about lunch so have no idea about meal prices, but the food quality at breakfast and dinner was excellent, so much choice.

Room Tip: The garden rooms seem to be in the best location. Very quiet and away from the evening entertainment...

Food is really good. Conference Center is nice. But the rooms are old and tired - especially the bathrooms which are very old and need to be totally redone. AC barely worked and was very loud making it hard to sleep.
