“Unique style huts/ Best viewing platform in Namibia”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 26, 2012

This unique concept of African-style huts each with own small front yard and garden growing vegetables and fruit used in the kitchen of the lodge- was a great change.
The complex is very big and a drawback are the many tour buses that stop over here, however the management seem to keep the tours away from the other travellers - so it does not interfere too much.
There were two other highlights in this Lodge- The sensational viewing platform overlooking the veld (they do sundowners there which is so romantic) and the huge swimming pool- such a blessing after a long days' travelling ... BUT... only 5 loungers around the pool! Impossible for such a large complex!

Room Tip: Request a quiet room so taht you are away from the large tour groups

We had the pleasure to stay at the Damara Mopane Lodge over the Easter Weekend and can only say: "absolutely great." Service was best experienced in Namibia in a long long time. All staff extremely friendly at all times and you were made very welcome. Food was great as well. Would not hesitate to recommend it to anybody and would stay there again anytime.

they had a very friendly reception at this lodge which was a big plus. The rooms are cute with each unit having a little fenced garden. the pool was massive and clean. I found the dining area not as nice as some other lodges and this lodge had a feel of mass tourism. we were there during the off season but i would not have wanted to stay in season. the biggest issue we had was that i had booked a wheelchair accessible room only to find it was not available as they were fumigating in the off season. they did say that they possibly could move us the next day. One of the managers explained that in the off season they do maintanance and some rooms are not available. this is not an acceptable explanation when you are traveling half way around the world to stay at a lodge because of certain amenities. with my husbands might we can manage steps but many can not. So overall some good points but also some areas for improvement. my rating for service reflects the lovely woman at reception who was fantastic.

This was a favourite lodge during my 15 day stay in Namibia. The little houses complete with garden and scare crow are delightful and very comfortable. The hosts are very relaxed and friendly and make sure you feel welcome. A feeling of visiting a friend. The pool is a delight with plenty of space. The food very good. I could have stayed for much longer and would highly recommend it for a longer break if you are touring.

Room Tip: Rooms are individual little houses so private. I doubt there could be a bad room.

Spent two nights in this new lodge ,which will be an interesting place to revisit in a few more years. The unique feature of the little bungalows is that they are placed in an individual vegetable garden setting. The bungalows are supposed to be set up in a kraal design with the little gardens apparently a replica of certain african villages.
At first sight it is a joy to see. The rooms are spacious, but there were a few things which were missing. The mattress just had a sheet on it, so no protection for the mattress from previous sweaty bodies . I suspect that not having a mattrress cover which can be removed and washed is against some hotelier code, but the matress was comfortable. The duvet was polyester and if it was hot, which it was, there was no alternative , a sheet between the duvet would have been helpful. As it was I removed the duvet cover and used it as a light covering. There is no fridge or phone in the rooms and no room service.
The other small touches more than made up for the things missing. The duvet covers are embroidered with a leaf motif and that design if carried out through out the rooms, carved into the desk tops etc. The rooms are charming and sitting outside drinking tea which you have made with the little tea kettle watching the birds and lookign at the garden is a treat after a long day.
The sundowner platform is a small up hill walk which is a wonderful spot to just see the land and of course to watch the sunset. They provided a variety of drinks including a keg of beer, sparkling wine, and the other usual alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks.
The swimming pool is large and interestingly designed. They need to provide umbrellas and more comfortable chairs and lounge chairs, some of which are already beginning to fall apart.

The dinner service was good. You are served the first course, a small appetiser and then a serve yourself buffet which had awonderful array of vegetables from the very gardens as well as well cooked game and fish.
Dessert is served .

The people are wonderful, friendly (as most people are in Namibia) helpful and courteous. But there is no where to sit where it is comfortable, only providing high bar stools in the bar. The bar is well stocked and a list of new additions of wine seems to be a weekly feature.

I am hoping that as the years go on this new lodge will just improve. The vegetable gardens are a marvellous idea, there are scarecrows everywhere and the the gardeners are doing miraculous things. I could almost see the tomatoes getting larger even in the two days that I was there.

We spent one night in this oasis in western Namibia. What a treat to be greeted in the parking lot by Ana, offered a cool drink at reception and then shown our adorable cottage with its vegetable garden. All the accommodations are in separate little cottages set along paths to resemble a neighborhood, complete with white picket fences and beautifully tended gardens with vegetables used by the lodge. The 'scare crows' are a hoot and the sundowner gathering on the hill with wine and beer was oh so relaxing. Dinner is an ample buffet and the wait staff is the best we encountered during our stay. Do not miss a chance to stay at this lodge if you are in the area. You won't be disappointed.

We stayed here half way through our Namibia trip and although there were no previous reviews we were very pleasantly surprised. It was excellent food and every attention was paid to the menu. It is quite a drive to Twyfelfontein but easy to do in a day and the scenery was spectacular. It is definitely a place to chill out. We would return again if in this area as the managers are so attentive to your needs and the staff are excellent. The only improvement I personally like to see is internet access, but you are here to escape from it all I suppose.
