“Excellent hotel, with excellent staff”
Reviewed July 11, 2013

We had a wonderful stay at the Jalsa Beach Hotel. The staff were extremely kind and the food was excellent. They have a vast selection of multi-cuisine food in their buffet and almost all if their desserts were delicious. The only downside is that the shower area is a bit dirty and the bathroom was musty.

Room Tip: Make sure you book a deluxe room.

It was a 7 day trip to Mauritius where we opted for this property. We booked the cottage room with 2 huge balconies facing the lagoon and the ocean. The facilities in the room was worth a praise. The property is very beautiful with lagoons, private beach, and a pool adjoining a well stocked bar... The buffet breakfast and dinner was good and had variety. The hotel had arranged a lovely candle lit dinner for us although it was not a part to our package which was a very sweet gesture from their side. Staff was courteous and polite. Overall it was a lovely experience and had a memorable stay

When you are planning a trip to Mauritius and looking for a hotel, what would an average Indian want - nice view from the room and Indian food. Jalsa Beach Hotel offers the perfect combination of the two, at a price which is also affordable to most. I searched for the best package for Jalsa and found Seaside Holidays offering the best one. The room I got was one that had swimming pool view along with the sea beyond, i.e. probably one of the finest you can expect on a holiday. The hotel beach gives excellent views of sunrise. However, I found the beach unfit for swimming due to the sea weeds as the hotel is located beside a lagoon. They provided Indian dishes along with the western fare for breakfast and dinner. Though the variety was there, the use of local spices in the Indian vegetarian dishes did not go that well with us. However, the non-veg tasted just like the taste you have in India. Also, we had opted for Indian cuisine at the time of booking but there were no restrictions in case we wanted to eat the continental dishes (I had read in the reviews of some hotels in Mauritius which disallowed their guests from taking those dishes that were not a part of the cuisine they had specified in the booking). The staff was very polite and helpful, even to the extent of preparing food according to our wishes in case we did not like the food in the buffet. With options of kayaking and scuba diving from the hotel beach itself, the hotel offers to be a perfect destination for anyone.

Dear Varunag18,

On behalf of the entire Jalsa Beach Hotel & Spa Team I would like to thank you for your kind words and for referring to the hotel as 'a perfect destination for anyone'. We are pleased to read that you have done your research on hotels in Mauritius and that we have been able to meet your expectations.

Your feedback on the rooms, food (Indian & International) and pricing structure of the hotel is much appreciated. Jalsa Beach Hotel & Spa has a dedicated Team always striving to improve the product and we are pleased to read that we are heading in the right direction.

With regards to your comments on restriction on the buffet items at other hotels. This is certainly surprising news and as you correctly stated all dishes on our buffet are there to be enjoyed by all our guests. Furthermore we will do our best to cook that something special from home upon request and within reason.

Again we thank you for having chosen Jalsa Beach Hotel & Spa as your holiday destination. We hope to welcome you back soon and send you our best wishes.

Thank you!

It was fun filled trip of 6 days..All facilities were great... To start with food.. They served octopuses which I had for the first time in my life.. Breakfast and dinner buffets awesome..A difficult time though for vegetarians during dinner..A personal beach is two thumbs up.. Rooms just amazing with their sea view.. The bar, welll stocked with happy hours as well which is a winner..
The only thing that lacked was if they could offer beach dinners at night..Spa experience was something which could have been better..Sports facilities were good which included peddle boat, canoeing, snorkling (paid)..A lagoon with clear waters adds to your pluses...A pool by the bar another major attraction..

Location is not that good though.Proximity to FLAQ is ok which can be reached by local bus an experience in itself..

FLAQ is a good place to shop and spend 4-5 hours..

Room Tip: Always ask for a room facing sea...

Dear Navreet W,

A concise and encompassing review. The entire Team of Jalsa Beach Hotel & Spa thank you for your wonderful feedback. The pleasure was ours! Your review serves as a great reward to all the Team Members of Jalsa Beach Hotel & Spa.

We are delighted to read your positive feedback on the menus on offer. Our kitchen Team is always hard at work to provide our guests with menus which include authentic Mauritian dishes as well as flavours from home.

Your feedback on the Happy Hour at our Rum Point Bar is also much appreciated and any potential visitor to Jalsa Beach Hotel & Spa can expect to find the same.

You correctly stated the added value offered by our Boathouse, offering FREE use of pedalos, snorkelling equipment and kayaks. The diving lessons are a paid service and offers our guests the ability to learn the basics of certified diving.

Sending you our best wishes and we hope to welcome you again soon.

Thank you!

We stayed at Jalsa during the last week of May 2014. The experience was awesome starting from the scenic view, service, food and everything. A very well maintained and clean hotel with very warm and friendly staffs. Although they messed up my request for a cake for my wife's birthday and brought the cake on 11 PM at the night on the birthday instead of the day before, I will take it as a small mistake and won't take anything away from the staffs. Also I was charged for the cake which should have been complimentary as it was a birthday. I guess they compensated us with two mock-tails later. Our room-service lady and Mr. Rajesh at the restaurant were awesome. Also I must mention about the 'Monsoon Pizza' that I had in the restaurant was one of the best pizzas I have had anywhere. :) I highly recommend the place will be back for sure.

Room Tip: Deluxe rooms with sea view especially the ones from number 213 and 313 onwards.

I and my family stayed here this month for a week - and my first feedback to the people who run this place to have a look at their food. If you stay in a resort in the middle of nowhere, you need good food to sustain you. The quantity is not an issue - it is the quality which matters... all varieties - the Indian, Creole, Chinese - all varieties disapppointed - the only saving grace being the dessert! The place is neat and clean, but lacks some basic amenities - like there is no iron in the room, no wi-fi access in the room, and the room we got looked out into the backyard... The Bar is good and the Beach is gorgeous! However, the reason I put a 3 on the overall score is mainly the food... with no other choices nearby - I feel that this place has the potential to be a high ranker if they are willing to improve the food!

Room Tip: When you book, make sure that you ask for a room with a view to the Sea! We didnt and spent the time...

Dear Amit Sengupta,

We would like to thank you for your feedback, both the positive and the negative, as it serves as a great tool in improving our services. Your feedback on the food has been well noted.

We extend the offer to all potential visitors to Jalsa Beach Hotel & Spa that the management remains at the disposal of any guest needing assistance. Both our Food & Beverage Manager and Chef will be delighted to get feedback during the visit of any guest.

On the positive side we are delighted to read that you have noticed and appreciated the level of hygiene and cleanliness all through the complex. Our Team is always hard at work to ensure this remains the same.

We also appreciate the feedback on the 'gorgeous' beach and bar area. Most certainly this is one of the main attractions for our guests. After all, not much beats cocktails around the poolside on a tropical island.

Your advice on the Deluxe Rooms having a better view is absolutely correct and I agree that this upgrade is best done at the time of reservation to ensure the availability of such a room.

We wish you a wonderful year further.

Thank you!

My boyfriend and I stayed here for ten days. The hotel was amazing! We were on the 'All Inclusive' package and could not fault it. The staff could not do enough for you, nothing was too much trouble and everyone was always smiling. My boyfriend was ill for a few days with a throat infection and the staff could not have been more helpful. We upgraded our room to De-Luxe which was worth it as our view from the balcony was phenomenal!

The rooms are beautiful and I slept 8-10 hours every night (something I never do at home!!). Bathrooms is great, shower was excellent. House Keeping are very pleasant. There was a DVD player in the room which you could get movies out from reception to watch as the TV channels weren't all that great but you don't go on holiday to be couped up in a room anyway.

The pool and beach area was lovely, no having to get up early to save sunbeds as there were plenty and all well spread out. The sea was crystal clear, not very deep at all, you could walk over to the other hotel I'm sure without the water going past your waist. The pool was a tad cold but once you got over the shock you were fine!

The restaurant was lovely. Eating out on the balcony, you had a picturesque view of the gardens or inside, where in the evenings there was live music entertainment to accompany you whilst you were enjoying your meal. The food was incredible, the flavors and spices were heavenly! If there was something you didn't like, the chef was more than happy to cook you something up to your taste! Lunch time was on an 'A La Carte' menu, something I've never experienced on an All Inclusive holiday. Portions were huge. I definitely over indulged!

The only slight little fault to the hotel would be that the day you check out, your All Inclusive package finishes at midday. Our flight wasn't till late at night so we had to buy our lunch and drinks for the afternoon. I would definitely come back here and would not hesitate to recommend it. it was so peaceful and relaxing. Just what we needed. Indeed it's a little piece of paradise.
