Stayed at Jalsa Beach from the 12th Oct. to 1st Nov. Had a fantastic holiday. The all inclusive package is excellent. Meals at the restaurant were of a good quality and varied, but if you required something different the chefs were more than willing to accommodate. The staff are absolutely fantastic nothing was too much trouble to try and please you. If you want a peaceful and relaxing holiday this is definately the place for you. Our room 306 was spaceous and kept immaculate by Maya. There are 2 bars, one on the veranda outside the restaurant and one pool bar where the staff are friendly and serve fantastic cocktails. Thank you to all the staff especially Raymonde in the restaurant who was attentive and obliging at all times. Hope to see you all again soon.

Room Tip: corner suites are large and roomy

From the beginning it was possible to see that Jalsa Beach and Spa Hotel is a small, quiet and beautiful hotel to stay at. Arrival at the hotel, after an hour’s drive from the airport, included a refreshing mocktail and a personal welcome from Richard (the manager of the hotel) before you are led to your room.

The staff are warm and welcoming here, and it is clear to see that there has been special emphasis placed on good quality service here; everyone is happy to help in any way they can whether it be room requirements, getting a drink or queries about tours / things to do.

The rooms are lovely here, the ocean view rooms are spacious and open with a flat screen tv, fridge, tea & coffee and all rooms come with a balcony. The cleaners are happy to stop and chat with you and help you with anything you need and try to work around your waking hours – we were never awake before 9am and so Artee never came before then! The bathrooms are big too with a large sink area and walk in shower with a large rain shower head 

The beach is a small, private one allocated to the hotel with fairly shallow water (comes up to about waist deep when the tide is in) with opportunities to snorkel or canoe / kayak or even take a boat out. It’s on the edge of a bay and so you don’t see many people at all! The pool is by the bar with plenty of sun loungers – the four of us never had any trouble finding a set of 4 together even though the hotel was almost fully booked. This is mostly to do with the guests at the hotel, which consists mainly of Indians with a few Europeans – like other reviews mention the Indians mostly stayed in their rooms during the day and so left us with plenty of options. The staff at the bar are really lovely, and always happy to mix up a drink for you or make some pancakes for you as a snack after lunch – they do a wide variety of mocktails and have a smaller range for cocktails on the All Inclusive deal. The really good thing about this hotel is that you can order your drinks and take them anywhere you want – whether it be to the seating area, the pool, the beach, your rooms or even to lunch / dinner! On top of that they give you 2 bottles of water in your room every day and you can get more if you need them. There is also wifi available at the pool and reception area for those that can’t live without the internet, and also a mini library that you can borrow a book from. The hotel also threw a 'meet the management' night where you could meet some of the staff, drink complimentary cocktails and mocktails and see some traditional Mauritian dancing - they even try and get people involved too!

The food here was pretty good too – breakfast and dinner are buffet style whilst lunch is a la carte (this is because a lot of people tend to get Half Board rather than Full / All Inclusive). Breakfast included different cereals fruit and hot food that changed every day – other options included omelettes etc. The hotel tended to split dinner it into 2 where one part was Indian food and the other part was the theme of the night. This included Chinese, Indian, local food etc but the chefs were also willing to make you something not on available at the buffet. For example, as vegetarians we couldn’t have the fish soup so they made us something else. And the staff here are wonderful too, always happy to help wherever possible.

There were also a few other things you could do around the hotel area. The hotel offers you the use of bikes if you want to see the surrounding area that way, but you can also walk it. I would also recommend catching a ride on the local bus to the biggest town in Mauritius (outside the capital) which is only a 15 minute bus journey from the hotel – it is definitely not an experience to be missed!

All in all a very good stay for us!

Dear AP28,

Firstly I apologies for the lateness in our response. It was certainly a pleasure to have welcomed you both in person. Regrettably I am not always able to meet every guest upon arrival but the mere fact that you make mention of it is enough motivation for me to try to do so.

Your review is wonderful, very descriptive and provides emphasis on the key elements which makes Jalsa Beach Hotel & Spa unique. We pride ourselves in our personal service, the warm hearts and genuine smiles! A small hotel which welcomes all our guests as part of our family.

I sincerely hope that many visitors to this review page reads your review as it provides a fair and good reflection of the product.

Be assured that your feedback has been shared with all staff and management.

We wish you a wonderful end to 2012 and hope to welcome you to our shores again.

Peter & I throughly enjoyed a relaxing fortnight. The food was excellent. The Staff were always there to help you and very friendly, Maya our maid to room 308, Dihrain and Prakash along with their colleagues in the Rum Point Bar, (along with many others !!), Raymonde and her staff in the Dodo Bar & Restaurant. If you enjoy a good massage then you MUST go and visit the spa facilities...on our deal with Mercury we had one massage and got one free...our thanks go to Raganee & her colleague. The location of the Hotel is quite remote but if you wish to visit the Capital Port Louis or visit the neighbouring villages, a taxi or bus service is available. Port Louis was the business hub of the island with restaurants & bars on the port to wet your appetite - thanks to Nil (N525) for our tour. Excursions were available along with activities to do on the lagoon, including kayaking and pedaloes. If you wish to have a relaxing, chilled out holiday go to Jalsa Beach. Thank you one and all for a truly fab time. Hope to see you again in the future. xx

Room Tip: Go for that little bit extra and ask for a sea view - Rooms 308 or 306 were very spacious.

This place is very good for veg food. It was very comfortable staying in this place - people are very warm and courteous. Location is not ideal - far from the main city but the place is well connected.

Room Tip: Take the deluxe rooms instead of standard

Dear Sudhindra S,

Firstly we apologies for the lateness in our response. We thank you for your wonderful words and positive feedback. Your review has been shared with all staff and management alike.

We are pleased to see that you much enjoyed the menus and service which Jalsa Beach Hotel & Spa has on offer. As a small hotel of 66 rooms we always do our best to look after the individual needs of our guests.

As you correctly stated the hotel is not located in a busy city environment. The peaceful and beautiful setting of Jalsa Beach offers an escape from the day to day run around. However, Mauritius is a relatively small island and any guest can easily access the many attractions of Mauritius in quick time by taxi, rental car or tour operator.

We wish you all the best and look forward to welcoming you back.

Just back from jalsa beach. The hotel is nice, clean and the staff are very helpful. Unfortunatly you cannot leave the complex to go for walks or maybe just for a change of scenery in the evening because there is nothing around. It needs to update it's entertainment in the evening or you could die of boredom and by that |I don't mean go wild, but maybe just invest in a good few cds. The restruants food was ok, but if there wasn't anything on it that you fancied you only had to ask and they would make it for you (steak, garlic mushrooms, chips and ice cream for afters!)
Biggest let down was the birds inside the restruant and the fact that the back of the chairs had poo on them yuk. overall they were working towards preventing this. (maybe it would help if guests didn't feed them at the table too just to get bloody photos)

Dear Blades02,

Firstly we, apologies for the lateness in our response. Your comments have been well noted and much appreciated. Feedback in such a manner allows us to improve the product further.

The entertainment has already been enhanced and with the busy season ahead we will have an great opportunity to offer some more variation. This will be a good insight into the likes and dislikes of our guests. As per your feedback regarding the variety of music - we have invested in a extensive CD selection some time ago offering a selection of popular music both old and new. However, upon your recommendation we are increasing that selection some more. Thank you for that.

Your feedback on the menus is also much appreciated. We are pleased to see that our staff have gone that extra mile. The hotel has recently appointed some new team members in our kitchen department and we are more than proud about the value added by these new team members.

The tropical setting of Jalsa Beach Hotel & Spa with an abundance of birds is often one of the key attractions which brings guests to our facility. Regrettably the birds can become a nuisance at meal times. Jalsa Beach Hotel & Spa has a number of measures in place to reduce the number of birds at meal times but we insist on using environmentally friendly prevention measures. We have recently increased some of these. We certainly support your view by asking guests not to feed the birds (mother nature is more than capable of looking after her own).

Lastly we thank you for having selected Jalsa Beach Hotel & Spa and for your positive feedback.

Best wishes!

My husband and I have just returned from Jalsa Beach and had a fantastic time. All staff, from Sindy & colleagues on Reception, Vimla in housekeeping, bar staff right through to the gardeners, were all helpful, smiley, polite and keen to make sure you were having the best time possible. Lots of choice of food, always something you would like but if not the restaurant staff were always happy to prepare something for you. If you are looking for non-stop entertainment, this is not the right hotel for you but if you want to spend your time relaxing, chatting with new friends and enjoying the glorious views then this hotel is the perfect choice. It is a little out of the way but the taxis parked outside the hotel are good value for money and the drivers are very knowledgable - we will be back!

Room Tip: Rooms on the right of the building have good views towards the bay.

The hotel is miles from anywhere so you are "stuck" on site. This makes the restaurant most important, but I felt it was not very good. Food was often cold. There was not enough choice for those who do not want spicey/curry dishes for breakfast/lunch/dinner every day.
Wonderful staff, & nice hotel grounds. Gym is a bit of a joke -too hot & very wobbly kit. Our room had many niggling faults which although not really worth letting them spoil our break, they certainly drop the rating to 3 or even 2.5 star.
Richard & Sindy were both very helpful and pleasant as were all the staff.
However, if you want a more than to just sit at the pool/beach then this hotel is not for you.
