My partner and I booked the first week of our Thailand holiday at the Kantary Bay Hotel after reading many reviews of many hotels all over Phuket. After our 6 1/2 hour flight we were taken to the hotel by a crazy Taxi driver ( he was doing 140Kph at some stages). We arrived with an open mind as we all know that you can never be sure what the hotel is like until you see it in the flesh.
Well it was a welcome suprise to find it looked just as the photos showed inside and outside. We had booked a basic room but were upgraded to a suite even without asking, not many hotels will do that but it leaves a lasting impression on the customer.
When we came down for breakfast on the first day the staff asked if we were happy with the room. I said half joking that a bigger balcony would be nice (ours only had a small balcony) we dont have one available today she said but we will tomorrow. Our new room was on the 2nd level of the Bay wing which meant walking up some ramps to get there, but it was great to help walk off breakfast.
As others have said the views from the balcony are breathtaking and we spent many an evening watching the sun setting from our balcony. The hotel pool was always a bit crowded so we used to take the shuttle to Cape Panwa Hotel and use the Pool down on beach near Panwa House we preferred it as it had more shade, not many people used it as they prefered the beach.

We just stayed at Kantary Bay for 2 weeks and a further 5 days due to the volcano disruption. The staff were brilliant, they couldnt help us enough. I was already impressed in the first 2 weeks as staying at the Kantary Bay we had the best of both worlds with the sister hotel just over the hill where we were allowed to use all the facilities there too & the location where we had sea views and the easiness for the local restaurants, bus into Phuket town & taxies if required.

Me and my partner stayed at the Kantary Bay, Cape Panwa for 2 weeks and it was fab. The food in the local resturants were good and very cheap. The staff were so friendly. The rooms were clean, we had no problems atall. Its a lovely area, around 50minutes by taxi from the airport. Cape Panwa is a quiet area but if you want nightlife you can easily pick up a taxi to Patong. Overall we had a lovely time!

Make use of the free shuttle to enjoy the facilities of the sister hotel Cape Panwa too.
That way, you get the best of both worlds. Not too many independent restuarants, but Taste of India and Sawasee located next to the Hotel were both good value.
Book trips with local agents (like the one next to Sawasee) rather than the Rep as they are much cheaper. When you leave the hotel there are various Taxi drivers touting for trade. We had a taxi for about 5 hours. He took us all over Phuket and waited whilst we went elephant trekking and visited the local temple In Phuket city etc.. He only charged 300 baht (about £7). Amazing!
The beach at the Panwa Hotel was absolutely beautiful with lots of shade amongst the palm trees and comfortable sun beds. The sea was incredibly warm. I will dream about that beach when I am baack at the grindstone!
The Thai people were friendly and charming and the service given at both hotels was second to none.

this was our first long stay (3 months) and all of the staff went out of their way to make it the best holiday we have ever had. on advice we used the local transport, which is very easy to do and inexpensive, and it gives you a chance to see areas you don't normally see, thereby gaining greater insight to the local culture. taxis are expensive. local restaurants are good value and the proprietors are very helpful, also use the street hawkers for snacks as again they are good value for money.
the views from our balcony of the Andaman Sea and surrounding islands is breathtaking, the nearest we have ever been to paradise.
we enjoyed it so much we are coming back for another 3 months.

My husband and Ispent a month at Kantary Bay between mid February and and the 20th March this year. It was our first fisit to the hotel though we had stayed at Cape Panwa hotel last year. We chose this hotel because it was a lot cheaper than its sister hotel so we could afford to stay longer.
Our studio room was in the middle block on the second floor. As there is no lift in this block it would not be suitable to anyone with mobility problems. It suited us perfectly though. Because we were so far up we had a beautiful view from our small balcony. One of my best memories is of sipping my morning cofee watching the yachts and fishing boats as they sailed across the bay-magic. Th room was simply furnished but it was comfortable and clean. It had everything in it that we needed for a months stay-comfortable bed, setee, comfy chair ,coffee table, entertainment unit (tv, cd, dvd) , small dining table and chairs, small kitchen(large fridge, two rings, micro wave oven, sink, cuoboards), large bathroom.
The breakfasts were good though with not the same variety as the Cape Panwa. The eggs were freshly cooked and the poached and boiled eggs were cooked to perfection(not often found even in much more expensive hotels). The dining area was pleasant and clean. It reminded me of a 'Tea room' type cafe
The staff were friendly, politeand helpful. When we had a problem with the air conditioning and electrics in our room it was quickly and cheerfully put right..
Being able to use the facilities of Cape Panwa made our holiday just right. The beach area was lovelly and we enjoyed a pleasant drink and lunch at the beach bar most days All the staff were great-high to Sandy, Jennifer and the lads. There appeared to be plenty of beds and umbrellas. The staff were more than willing to put up your umbrella or even find you a bed .
We ate in the evenings at local restaurants-I love Asian food. Our favourites were Sawadasee (just outside the hotel) and James (up the hill) The food was always good at both. The view from the James was wonderful and worth the effort of climbing the hill-the manager will come and get you in his car if you are not a mountineer.
Our fellow guest were friendly and its was a pleasure to share an hotel with them. They ranged from the vey young to retired peope lke ourselves.
We will return next year as this hotel and its sister meet our every need.

Stayed at the Kantary Bay Hotel from 11th-20th March. Booked a studio room but on arrival were upgraded to a 1 bedroom suite on the second floor, room 251 in the side block overlooking the main pool. Lovely big sitting room with kitchen area, nice big bedroom, plenty of storage but no drawers, Large clean bathroom with bath and huge walk in shower. Balcony with table and chairs. Room was cleaned daily, had clean towels and bedding whenever we wanted, just left a card on the bed and they were changed. Our room was above the dreaded 151 which everyone complains about on here. I can understand why, its more like a basement room and does look very dark, I wouldnt have wanted to stay there.
Main pool was very nice, always sunbeds available. Only thing it needs is a pool bar. Breakfast was good, always plenty to choose from. We ate at Uncle Nan's Italian restaurant twice, loved it there. Also at Sawasdee, Laem Panwa, Clock House and Hilltop Restaurant which was fantastic, lovely food, lovely views and great service. Lovely to wander along the front at night where there are a few market stalls set up. Was nice to look around them as the stall holders werent pushy, they were very friendly. Went to the Sunset Bar a few times and met Russell, his wife Wasana and her sister. They are lovely people, very welcoming.
Went to the beach at the Cape Panwa Hotel just up the hill. Very friendly and helpful young man got us 2 sunbeds in the shade with brollies. Nice beach with a nice breeze which we needed as it was very hot, 36 degrees most days. Male beach bar staff were very friendly but not the girls. Good choice of food and drink at the beach bar. Cape Panwa Hotel looked very nice but we preferred the Kantary Bay Hotel.
All the staff at Kantary Bay were very friendly especially the reception staff. A special mention to Viyada and Suparat, lovely girls.
We loved the Cape Panwa area, it was peaceful and quiet and would love to visit again one day.
