Ok here is my take on this place after a stay of 7 nights through Luxury Escapes.

$999 AUD for 7 nights with 4 massages, and dinner every night. Pretty good value.
The hotel is not 5 Star. Is around 30-40 years old and everything is dated.

But I must praise the hotel staff and management. The maintenance they have done and continue to do, keeps everything old but nice. Nice and clean and looking ok. Great job!!

The buildings, day beds, decking, rooms and everything is very old. For how old it all is, we were very impressed.

Vecay Phuket can do private car from Phuket Airport to Cape Panwa Hotel for 590 baht. (The hotel itself is 1200 each way)

There are only a handful of other restaurants of decent quality around the area. And to be honest, no better quality than the hotel itself. Although slightly cheaper. 3 meals and 2 beers at local Sawasdee around 800 baht. (Meals a very small though)

The local 7/11 has 750ml Asahi for 95 baht and other local (large) beers for 80 baht. ( The Trading Post shop is 20% more expensive) I think 150 baht for a small beer in the hotel is over priced. More than triple the price outside the hotel AND for half the size. If they were more reasonable, would
have never went outside the hotel.

Room service is a bit expensive as well, with 10% service, 7 % tax AND another 10% room delivery. (27% tax on room service)

Disappointed water sport is non existent except for canoes. There is perfect water and space right out the front for any type of water action. And like many hotels the catamaran was broken. (For the whole 7 days we were there with constant promises of remediation)

We had dinners and (2 drinks per night) included from Luxury Escapes but had so many rules with them it was disappointing. You can’t use the food or drink vouchers on the beach bar or restaurant. You can only chose between 3 restaurants in the hotel. Not to much of an issue, just felt tricked.

The rooms are assigned for Luxury Escapes. Called Junior Suites. The rooms are clean and of good size. Very comfy, soft bed, good pillows, mini bar and reliable internet. No complaints, except they are so far away from the main area such as restaurant, bar and the like. We had literally the worst room In the hotel. Furtherest away from reception and over looking carpark and cell tower. Many stairs and long walk to anything. With a bit of convincing we were allowed to upgrade to a beach facing spa suite “double” the size for 1000 baht ($45AUD) a night. Extra cost but 1000% worth it.

The staff are exceptionally helpful. Especially the lovely lady on the beach as in breakfast area whose names I can’t recall. Happy with the service. No irons in room but you can book them, get in a day or two in advance or go to the general iron roo near reception.

Overall for the cleanliness and service we were very happy. With drink prices and age of hotel, I deduct 1 point. The food is / was only just on par for an area in remote location. (Most items precooked) could be significantly improved.

And Luxury Escapes should be ashamed at the amount of photoshopping they have done on the images to sell the packages.

Dear SteveDWS,

Thank you for your very full and frank review of your visit to Cape Panwa Hotel, Phuket and for the many compliments despite your higher expectations. We will pass on your recognition of the work of our staff, to Sandy at the Beach bar and the breakfast team and particularly to our maintenance crew for their unremitting efforts. Our prices are very much in line with similar properties in Phuket and the addition of a Service Charge and mandatory government tax is standard practice in Thailand. However, in fairness to our chefs, allow me to point out that our food is generally cooked to order. Should you decide to return in the future you would both be most welcome.

Sincerely yours,
Cape Panwa Phuket Management

I love this hotel, the decor is amazing, especially on arrival into reception. Very friendly staff and our rooms was top notch. The bath and shower were not separate but that is all I can find fault with.

We were looked after and the breakfasts were exceptional. Plenty of sun beds around they pool and plenty of restaurants to choose from.

Plenty of massage parlours nearby and a small village at the bottom of the hill with some local restaurants.

Loved this place, the pool staff and restaurant staff were so friendly.

We recently stayed at Cape Panwa for 12 nights on a Luxury Escapes package.

The package is such good value that you cannot really complain about anything! The main downside is the ageing of some of the facilities, but everything is kept clean and functioning.

The beach is beautiful, private and the water is very clean. The spa is very good and the Jasmine spa up the road is particularly good. We loved going into the village for ice creams at the air conditioned Kantary cafe. We found staff service to be good - particularly the cleaning and reception staff. Mr. Varoon was very friendly and has been at the hotel for many years!

Our favourite was Otters Bar and The Top of the Reef restaurant where we enjoyed fine dining and excellent service from all the staff led by Mr. Asaree, the Maitre’de. The set menu which changed daily was for six courses, including sorbet and petit fours with tea and coffee. No weight was lost on this trip! The bar had a young lady playing the piano and singing beautifully. The service and food was also excellent at Panwa House.

The atmosphere around the Panwa Bay Area is generally relaxing and easy. It is a place to chill and unwind, not a party scene, but they do have The Lighthouse for late evening drinks and entertainment.

Thank you to everyone at Cape Panwa. We would definitely return.

We had 7 very relaxing nights in this excellent venue. All the staff were most attentive and the facilities, although a little older, were excellent as well.
The three on-site restaurants had varied cuisine to suit both the Asian and Western palate. Two additional restaurants at the sister Kantari hotel over the hill were also available to us with a free shuttle very 10-15 minutes from 7am to midnight.
Special mention to Asaree, the Maitre D at the Top of the Reef restaurant, and the bar staff there in the Otter Bar. Their service and interest in the guest made us feel at home. Mr Werat was also a man who was everywhere at all hours making sure everything was just right for the guests.
We had a Junior Suite on the 3rd floor over looking the Hotel grounds which had a very private balcony. It was spacious and comfortable and well recommended. Be aware though that there was 48 steps up to the lift lobby of the building from Reception/Breakfast Cafe/ Main pool area! Keeps you fit!

Room Tip: This is not a place for people with any mobility issues. It is on the side of a hill and has lots of steps in all directions.

My wife and travelled to Cape Panwa from the UK, really excited and looking forward to a superb holiday, and in general we were not disappointed.
Upon arrival two things annoyed us immediately which is not good after 24 hours travelling. Prior to travelling we upgraded to a "Junior Suite", excellent we thought, until we crossed the threshold of Suite N211....I flushed the toilet and water shot all over the floor which I dried up, shower screen held to the wall with rusty screws some of which has cracked the tiles albeit it only slightly, but still cracked. The "dressing table" looked like it had been there since 1920, and the wardrobe doors were damaged on the inside as a result of the interior drawers catching on them. We had requested a sea view, however we wouldn't really open the door to the balcony as it was straight into thick vegetation and a plethora of insects etc., I know this is a tropical location but this was somewhat excessive. My local Premier Inn has better rooms. Second niggle, we were told the restaurant was open until 1100pm, last orders 1030pm, we arrived 1020pm only to be offered a take away service to our room!. I politely requested that we were catered for as we had been on the go a long time and were hungry. We were served a decent meal but we felt like we were inconveniencing the staff and we felt uncomfortable, especially when the "manager" made a bit of a deal about keeping her staff there to serve us!, somewhat mysterious as we were the ONLY people sat in the restaurant.
I was up and into reception nice and early to request a change of room, we upgraded to Cape Panwa Suite with a whirlpool, Suite N105, this was much better and much more in line with what we had been expecting. I was told this would be an extra Baht 2000 per night which I managed to negotiate down to Baht1000 per night which equated to GBP280.00 for 11 nights. In all honesty the Hotel was virtually empty, and I was quite annoyed that we were not offered this as a complimentary upgrade - I have taken this up with the UK travel operator.
OK complaints over - once we had settled into our new home, the whole experience was excellent, breakfast excellent once you get used to the local bird life dive bombing you and feasting on crispy bacon!, hotel pools excellent, Mercedes to the beach (cable car) excellent, beach location and Bambu Bar excellent, shuttle service to Cape Panwa village, excellent, restaurant staff generally excellent.

Simon and the guys in the Lighthouse Bar even more than excellent they were amazing - happy, friendly, smiling and running Happy Hour like clockwork!!.
Otter Bar excellent, however the service could be better and more akin to the Lighthouse Bar - please promote Simon!!.

All-in all, after the early issues, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Cape Panwa, met some brilliant people and loved Thailand. We will visit Thailand again for sure, will we return to Cape Panwa Hotel?, not sure is the totally honest answer.

Room Tip: Make sure you book a room in the main body of the Hotel!

Thank you for writing us such a long and detailed letter about your visit to Cape Panwa Hotel, Phuket and for the generous balance with which you cover your negative and very favourable observations. We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience you experienced initially and we will address the points you raise regarding the bathroom fittings. Your comments on the restaurant service have been passed to our F&B Manager for information and appropriate action. We were pleased to read your appreciation of Simon and his team; Otter’s Bar is a little more formal for those who wish to enjoy a quiet cocktail before dinner. We are very grateful for the positive conclusion to your remarks – it is indeed rewarding that you compare us with ‘home’ – and I can assure you that, should you decide to return in the future you will both be most welcome.

Yours sincerely,
The Management of Cape Panwa Hotel, Phuket.
