We came to Thailand for our honeymoon on December 24th until 4th January 2013. I have to say it exceeded our expectations. Checking in was quick and easy and before we knew it a lovely porter was carrying our suitcases to our room. We were very happy with our room it was clean, bright & spacious. The bed was comfortable and much needed after our 14hrs of travelling. The hotel staff were so friendly and always smiling. Nothing was any trouble for them and they were always happy to help. The food was faultless and there was a great selection to choose from, some nights they had a seafood or steak buffet which was a lovely change to the main menu. If you would like an extra special treat then i highly recommend 'the top of the reef' restaurant.
The private hotel beach was gorgeous, surrounded by palm trees. You have to go down a few steps to get to it which didn't bother us but if you are a bit unsteady on your feet then there is a little electric shuttle to take you down. We never had any problem finding a sun lounger and there was plenty of shaded areas (under the palm trees) for those who prefer not to be out in the direct sun. There was also no problem in hiring towels from the beach or pool hut.
There was a shuttle bus every 10mins from the hotel down into the little village, this was great as the hill is quite steep. We did do the walk a couple of times but it was just too hot trying to struggle back up to the hotel. Although this was a small price to pay for the amazing views you get from the hotel. In the evening from about 6pm the locals would set up their little market stalls selling clothes, souvenirs and street food all very cheap and good chance to brush up on your bartering. There is also a little supermarket with an atm machine. Along the road out of the hotel there are a few little massage huts which seemed very cheap and again the people were so friendly and not at all pushy if you didn't want one. We got a big smile and a wave everyday that we travelled down to the supermarket.
If you want to travel a bit further a field to do some shopping then Patong beach was about 30 mins in a taxi if that, which costs about £700 bht. Don't let the taxi drivers fool you into paying more, some did try to push their luck so always agree the price before going anywhere.
I can 100% say we will be booking to go back to Cape Panwa in 2014 and can't wait!
Our only negative was the awful stroppy girl in the white bikini down at the beach that decided to shout at a member of staff. Her behaviour towards the poor lady working at the beach bar was dreadful. I only hope that her likely bad review will not deter people from staying here. In actual fact the beach bar staff were working extremely hard to accommodate eveyones requests and again didn't stop smiling all day.
