“Birthday present”
Reviewed July 19, 2014 via mobile

I booked the Panwa Beach 4 star resort over the Panwa cape 5 star resort on the advice of the vener booking agent for my fiancés 40th birthday (a surprise). I selected the best beach front room possible from Monday the 13th until 18th of July & then requested an extra night stay as our post booked flight would have us arrive at midnight on the 12th, at this time I was told by the hotel only a garden view room was available & believed the price quoted was a little high considering the price I was paying per night for the beach front room but reluctantly agreed as they would not negotiate.

Our welcome greeting being so late was of course average but we were tired & glad to get to our room. Unbeknown to us at the time we had in fact been upgraded to a beach front ground level room which consisted of two single beds & a very old (unclean) bathroom but still thought the best of this seeing as we were moving rooms the next day. When we returned to reception to change rooms there was some confusion & we were told that was the room we had be spent the night in was our room for our entire visit, I think the look if shock on my face had enough effect that another better room was sorted??? which was the room I actually booked and paid for, so not a great start but still we were happy with the new room & optimistic.

Overall our stay was pleasant though I felt the service was extremely poor & slow at times (especially happy hour when we'd only manage to order one drink each in the space of 2 hours). It appeared there were plenty of staff on not doing much at all apart from chatting amongst themselves.

The food was good but expensive when tax of 17% was added to everything. The pool & games room a little tired but still very enjoyable. I enjoyed the complementary scuba diving lesson in the pool but only stumbled across this as another guest was insisting her daughter have this advertised opportunity.

The stay came to a unpleasant bump in the road when we discovered our room was not locking & hadn't been for a number of days, the manager eventually appeared at our request as some small amount of money was unaccounted for. The manager was initially apologetic & mentioned he work out something in the way of compensation (which was not really the point) he did begin to frustrate both myself & my fiancé when he pointed out the small print on our sign in sheet about the hotel not being responsible for any guests personal belongings whilst they were in the hotel rooms - this infuriated my fiancé as he pointed out that this condition could only be adhered to if the hotel could guaranteed the electronic door lock actually worked!

It all went a bit down hill from there & we really began to feel unwelcome so basically stayed in our room for the final day & evening.

The compensation offered was half of the amount of money missing, again this was not the entirety of my complaint, service was lacking & even though I'd mentioned on previous emails that this holiday was a birthday present - not one person said happy birthday or asked if there was anything they could do to make our stay more enjoyable. I told the manager that the 1850 THB wasn't that much money in Australian dollars to smooth things over but that I was disappointed with the service & he had the hide to laugh whilst agreeing this was not much money to an Australian & I should have complained about the service prior. This is not in my nature & the manager did not know our personal circumstances at all, to us every dollar does count but pride stopped me from saying so.

I would not recommend this hotel based on the quality of finish inside & outside the rooms, service from all senior staff was poor & the location was not great but still good service would have made up for all of this.

We will return to Phuket early next year wiser and pay more money for a 5 star hotel closer to the central tourist area and other more swim friendly beaches as the cost of travelling anywhere decent was over 1000 BTH per day & there's nothing that special about the Panwa Beach Resort that would keep you there day in day out.

Working in customer service myself I know that going that little bit further for every client does not cost and returns 10 folds... Big lesson that the new Panwa Beach Manager must learn quickly.

At least I came back with a good tan and enjoyed the shopping :)

After one night in our booked hotel in Karon beach which we hated we moved to this hotel. As we had such a terrible experience in our previous hotel we only booked a few nights here to start but the moment we arrived we decided to extend our stay for 11 nights in total. The hotel was lovely and clean and bright, staff so friendly and helpful and even when there was a language barrier they were so keen to help that we always found a way to communicate.

We had a beach front room which we were upgraded to for free having only booked a garden view room. I would definitely recommend one. The whole of one side of our room was windows looking out at the beach which was at most 4 metres from the door!! It was lovely to open the curtains onto such a beautiful vista everyday.

The breakfast was good though they sometimes ran out of popular items if you arrived towards the end of the serving time. The restaurant served a good selection but it was expensive in comparison to the nearby beach restaurants.

We organised one trip through the hotel staff and booked a taxi with them to the airport and to take us on a trip to Big Buddha. This was well priced and in line with the amount charged elsewhere on the island. However there was a man who had a stall on the beach who would arrange transport at half the cost and trips and excursions or take people out for a boat trip at a much cheaper price. His English was not brilliant but again he was so friendly and keen to help that it was never a problem.

There are a number of beachfront stalls selling tourist trinkets snacks massages and amazing fresh fruit smoothies for pennies very close to the hotel as well as a couple of restaurants. We ate in them every day. The food was amazing and insanely cheap and the same goes for the cocktails and Thai whiskey!!!

The beach was lovely though admittedly tidal so you cannot swim when the tide is out because of some pretty huge rocks. Some people have said the rocks make it ugly but we have some beautiful sunset pictures with the tide out and the rocks add drama! The beach is on the edge of a large bay with boats coming and going on the other side, this can lead to rubbish washing up but overall the beach was clean. The pool overlooks the beach and is just as wonderfully warm if the sea is too far out and you need to take a cooling dip.

This was a quiet hotel but if you are looking for relaxation I cannot fault it and you can always get a taxi to Phuket town which isn't far. I would definitely return.

Room Tip: Go for a beachfront room it's worth the extra and visit 'the captain' in the beach for t...

This place surprised us in a good way, so much so, we changed our stay from 1 night to 8.

LOCATION: Right on the beach, gorgeous sunsets. You will need a cab/bike/car to get to stores and phuket.

GROUNDS: Set nicely. When the tide goes out, the beach is ugly, but it can't be helped. Plan your ocean activities accordingly.

AMENITIES: Very nice pool, public computer. There is a nice spa, but you can get massages on the beach for half-price through other parties too.

ROOM: Basic rooms are gross and smell like urine. We upgraded to the beach front rooms, which are literally steps to the ocean. Rooms themselves are also dark and sparse, but the oceanfront location makes up for it.

FOOD: Decent, and the italian food is good. You might want to try the local beach restaurants for thai...they are less than half the price of hotel food.

STAFF: English isn't great, but they take care of their long stay guests just fine and that's appreciated.

Room Tip: oceanfront room a MUST here.

Booked in at this hotel as a young couple, received a room on the 4th floor at the back of the resort which is located along a busy road which makes peaceful sleeping a challenge. The beach is not suitable for swimming and it's more of a beach on the edge of a dam as it's located across from a marina. Beach was also quite dirty despite it being cleaned every morning. The pool and jacuzzi are nice though. On a positive note, we were moved to a beach front room after our air-conditioning wasn't working. The rooms are spacious and clean, wi-fi is super slow. Biggest downside though is the fact that the resort is located far away from anything to see and do and the hotel charges a fee per person for their shuttle therefore if you are planning on relaxing at a resort and not going anywhere then it would work for you, didn't work for us though.

I have stayed at the Panwa beach resort hotel last week, and spent 7 days relaxing in this quiet beach front hotel.
The room was big and very clean with a great sea view.
All the staff was very helpfull and professional, and the general manager mr Martin gave us some great tips about the places to visit around and how to get there.
We tried the restaurant and also the pub, and the general manager was really keeping an eye on the places and make sure the service and the staff was offering the best service we expect.
We will come back for sure and we will recommand this hotel to our friends.
Thank you for this great week

We decided to stay at this hotel because of the proximity of the beach and room style. Both of them correct, apart of the beach that are green and you can only swim in a few hours. The service was acceptable, they don't speak English or any other languages well but we can communicate. The concierge was great. She help us a lot. But on Tuesday morning we arranged an excursion for Wednesday and the operator needs to send us a confirmation. She calls us that evening and nobody leaves us a message neither in the room or in the reception. The point is that in the excursion day we came to the reception to ask them if someone called and as he said (Tarin) nobody did, I called the tour back. She told me that she leaves me a message to confirm the excursion and as we didn't now was to late and we miss the tour. When I said that to Tarin he laughed at me and tell me that it wasn't the hotel fault and he doesn't care. When I asked him to see the manager he laughed again and tell me she was busy! And when I told him that we missed our last day and that we didn't have anything else to do he asked not our problem. So don't come to this hotel looking for service or help cause is the last thing you will find.
