I’ll start by saying I never take the time to review places I go to. However, I would have done great injustice to Amatara if I had remained silent this time also, since my partner and I really had a dream holiday at this resort.
Everything about this resort impressed us from the first moment we arrived. The room we received – a pool pavilion - was perfect in every way: large, clean, with a spectacular view of the ocean although hidden in beautifully cured tropical vegetation, very private and cosy, with a beautiful private Jacuzzi - pool of quite sufficient size and depth (definitely not the teapot you get most of the times when booking rooms with private pools ) and a spacious terrace having separate dinning and lounge areas. It was my birthday on arrival and after check in two sweet ladies came to our room with a birthday cake and sang the Happy birthday song for me which was really touching. We had a delicious dinner at the Grill and ordered in-room dinning for a few times. Food was good and the prices cheaper than what you would pay for 5 star hotel dinning in Europe. Breakfast was very good with a lot of Thai and European options to choose from. The Thai massage I had at the Spa was divine. The Spa treatments might seem a bit overpriced, but there is no doubt the personnel is very qualified. Personally, I wouldn't have had a Thai massage outside the resort, as it can be dangerous if given by amateurs.
The resort itself is very beautiful , with luxurious tropical gardens and superb views of the sea.
The surrounding area is very peaceful and clean, suitable for a relaxation holiday rather than for a partying one. There are a lot of dining options, two massage places and a 7/11 at a 3 minute walk away from the main gate.
The buggy service which we used a lot to go to the restaurant, the lobby, spa, main gate is impressively prompt. We actually never waited for a buggy more than 2 minutes from the call we made to the reception.
The whole staff made us feel truly welcome and the politeness and warmth they showed could not feel more genuine. Special thanks to our room attendant Kai Suphin who took such good care of our room and needs and brightened up our days with her huge warm smiles.
Overall, for us this was the perfect romantic getaway, special in every way. We have already recommended the resort to our friends and will definitely return.

We had a lovely time here. We stayed in a Bay View Villa which was great, although a bit dated.
We found the staff to be on the whole very welcoming, especially Aoy in the Sun & Moon bar, and also the lovely ladies that claened our room daily.
The hotel definatley has the wow factor on arrival.
We found the food at breakfast very average and sometimes cold. The afternoon tea disappointing so for this reason we did not eat at the hotel.
Improvements we found would be to updated the furnishings in the room, improve the food and some of the staff were stony faced.
Other than that we had a lovely time. Our bay view villa was great and very private

Room tip: Bay View room 18 had the sun all day from about 10.30am

This spa resort would be your ideal choice if you are looking for a relaxing stay away from the city. We stayed for 4 nights and had a wonderful experience of detox package. They have highly trained staff in the spa and wide massage and treatments menu. However, the food at the resort can be improved. The views are excellent and rooms are spacious. Hope to come back sometime again....

This is a beautiful property, we had a wonderful stay. Beds and pillows were incredibly comfy. Rooms clean. Ambience was wonderful. The spa was fantastic. The staff was helpful and friendly. The main pool was huge and amazing - although could use a few more chaise lounges for the number of guests. Food at the wellness restaurant and The Restaurant were good. Food at the grill was a bit disappointing. There are also several places in walking distance to eat. This is away from the hustle and bustle - which I appreciate.

Room tip: Choose a room facing the ocean - avoid the low tide bay odor of back facing rooms.
