We recently stayed here as a family of 4 over the New Year period.

As others have noted the hotel has just opened and, having taken advantage of the introductory offer we were prepared for the hotel to have a few early issues but overall they were few and far between.

First impressions on arrival and at the lobby are that it feels a bit bland. This is possibly due to the fact it is new but the lobby felt a bit sparse, with limited furniture or character. Any concern on this front however quickly evaporated when we got to our suites, which are outstanding and fully in line with the expectations set by the pictures on the website. Beautifully and tastefully decorated with modern Asian themes, they are spacious and well equipped with a great bathroom, separate dressing area and combined bedroom/living space. Great additional touches such as Nespresso coffee machine, jars of Thai delicacies, free soft drink minibar and free daily laundry for 4 pieces (a great benefit that allowed us to pack a little lighter than usual). very high tech Samsung TV and sophisticated (complex!) lighting system, electronic blinds etc. Mediocre wi-fi and no iPod dock.

Each room has an individual balcony but this highlights the drawback of (at this time of year at least) the most viscious and persistent mosquitos I have ever come across. To be fair, the hotel staff are very upfront about this and supply a bag of repellent and sprays, but 5 minutes outside drinking a coffee and we were covered with bites! You need to be very vigilent throughout and make sure you use the spray at all times.

The infinity pool is quite massive and beautifully positioned. Although the hotel was reasonably full when we were there it never felt crowded. The beach is further down the path and is probably THE issue with the hotel overall. On the plus side, its entirely private and secluded, sandy and with attentive staff who provide you with towels and water very efficiently. On the negative it tidal (not such a big issue as the tide tended to go out at the end of the day) but, moe importantly, it is within sight of (c 1/2 mile) of a petrochemical terminal and the Port. As a consequence there are very large cargo ships constantly in sight and the water is quite cloudy. A fair amount of rubbish gets washed ashore every night. They do an ok job cleaning the beach. During our stay we were quite literally the only ones ever there and we very much enjoyed the private feel. Its one of those "you either love it or you hate it" situations and, whilst we used it every day, the absence of others would indicate they fell into the second category.

During our stay only one of the restuarants was open and we found the food to be outstanding. Wonderful breakfast with a la carte options. The menu is extensive but we found the Thai food to be so good we ate it every night. The Western chef is apparently excellent and the food looked very good. Only complaint would be that the dining room is also rather sparse and has an institutional feel that could be improved with better decor and lighting.

There is no bar as such but a very nice library room with a wide range of books where you can also order pre or post dinner drinks. Furniture could be better - rattan style would be better replaced with something more sumptous. Gym is ok. Obvioulsy brand new equipment and well looked after.

Service throughout was outstanding and the staff were delightful. A great pleasure to be around them.

So overall we were very happy with our stay at the Regent - great rooms, great food, great people. Only caveat is the beach - if you are looking for classic blue water and idyllic views then its not for you. If you like privacy and tranquility (and bear in mind the pool is great) then you will be as happy as we were.

We stayed at the Regent from 27th Dec till 2nd January in one of their fantastic Pool Villas directly located at the sea and had a very enjoyable stay. The resort only opened a few weeks ago and they are still going through the teething problems associated with that - however i truly commend Brice the GM and his team for their professionalism; eagerness to help; friendly manner and for making our stay a very enjoyable one. The resort is located in a quiet area of the island far away from the hustle and bustle of Phuket Town which we enjoyed. The New Year Eve celebration was very professionally organised and was a lovely start into 2013. The food in the restaurant was very good (well done Justin!!) and we only went outside once for dinner as there was no need. I truly believe this resort will develop further over the coming weeks and months and if you are looking for a quiet gem with great service; food and atmosphere I do recommend you visit soon!! Thanks again team

I've stayed in some of the finest hotels and resorts in the world, but none has ever inspired me enough to write a review about my experience until I stayed in the Pool Villa at The Regent Phuket Cape Panwa.

The purpose of this stay was to celebrate my wedding Anniversary with my lovely wife, we took more than 3 months to decide on a resort in Phuket. This was my 6th time in Phuket and we wanted something unique and extraordinary from the usual hotspots in Phuket. We managed to discover The Regent by chance - a new luxury resort opening in Dec 01 and after more research and reading up online interviews of the Regent Phuket GM, we finally made our booking, which was one of the best choices we made this year!

Before I go on in further detail, here are 7 reasons why I think that The Regent Phuket, is a personal paradise:

1) Amazing people and hospitality
2) Stunningly designed resort and rooms
3) State of the art room controls and entertainment system
4) Incredible cuisine and to die for desserts
5) Complimentary minibar and laundry service
6) Gorgeous jacuzzi pool and views
7) Quality range of toiletries from L’occitane

Arrival:
The moment we arrived at the entrance of the hotel, we were greeted by the warm smiles and welcome of the hotel ambassadors. There was this sense of genuine hospitality which made us felt like guests of royalty.

We were refreshed with cold towels and a fragrant invigorating welcome tea at the reception. The General Manager of the Resort Mr Brice Borin, personally came up to welcome us and he gave us great insights on the design of the resort and the Regent service philosophy. How often do you get to personally meet and speak to the GM of the Resort? Brice also spoke to the other guests personally and this made every guest felt really appreciated.

Exploring The Regent Pool Villa:
We were then led by our concierge, Beer, who brought us to the buggy to transport us to our Pool Villa. There was a great sense of anticipation as we admired the lovely architecture of the resort surroundings which were a perfect union of Thai and classical European elements, we couldn’t wait to see how the room was like? When the doors to our Pool Villa were opened we were instantly wowed, everything was brand new, beautifully designed and put together.

The Pool:
We had stayed in a few pool villas before and though this was not the largest pool we’ve seen (about 5 m long) , it was the first that had a built in Jacuzzi! We spent hours luxuriating in the pool enjoying a great massage from the jacuzzi, getting a nice golden tan and enjoying the captivating ocean views in front of us. Best of all we were not heavily chlorinated after that!

The Bathroom:
Like to take a bath indoors and outdoors at the same time? Here at the Regent Phuket you can soak in a large circular bathtub and enjoy the 180 degree ocean views of Cape Panwa with a quick opening of the pool facing front door panels. Guests are pampered even further with an indoor rainshower and luxurious range of L’occitance toiletries which I’m sure many would be bringing home later!

The Mini-Bar:
This was not your usual mini-fridge of overpriced drinks and add ons. How does COMPLIMENTARY Nespresso coffee, fine teas, freshly baked cookies and snacks from the restaurant, sparkling water, soft drinks, beer and wine sound to you? It was simply divine! This was our personal paradise! We had everything we needed here and 24 hours in-villa dining service.

The Room:
There are so many wonderful things to write about the room, now where to start? Everything was state of the art. The room temperature, window blinds and lighting could all be controlled via bedside touch controls. An iPad was provided in the room too for convenient internet browsing. Wi-Fi connection was instant and download speeds were excellent. A huge Samsung 42 or was it 46 inch Smart TV could be swiveled to face whichever position you were in the room. There was no need to worry about having the right adaptors, as there were universally compatible power sockets. Despite this being an outdoor tropical resort, mosquitos and bugs were kept out of the room effectively by the electric insect repeller. You could access the villa pool directly from the side door windows or open up the front window doors to the balcony to enjoy quiet moments and scenic views. The bed was so incredibly comfortable that we had trouble waking up early to go for breakfast! But what an unforgettable experience it was to wake up to magnificent views of the ocean. This was life in our personal paradise!

The Food:
There is presently only one restaurant open in the resort, with The Grill and Regent club set to open early next year. The Executive Chef Justin Baziuk who is famed for his expertise in molecular gastronomy boasts of illustrious culinary stints in Park Hyatt and Four Seasons and Westin. We had the pleasure of interacting with him during dinner and breakfast as he made it a point to speak to diners as often as he could. We learnt that most of the food was prepared daily fresh out of the kitchen. Organic and free-range produce were sourced for most of the dishes. Breakfast at the restaurant was a gastronomic delight. The pastries reminded me of the best of those which I tried in France. They were a perfect combination of light, airy and buttery melt in your mouth goodness. The eggs were served ala minute, poached, scrambled or in omelet form. We tried every style of egg in during each day of our stay and they were sensational! Every serving was an exquisite work of art, arranged and plated stylistically with great precision and passion. The omelet was made in the authentic french style which was thick yet soft and moist in the centre. It’s really good and you’ve got to try it when you are there! Dinner was great too with an extensive range of Thai dishes, western and Italian favorites. For desserts we highly recommend that you try Justin's signature warm chocolate cake made of 72% Valrhona chocolate. The melted chocolate was velvety smooth. It was paired perfectly with salted caramel ice cream and crackle pops, which reminded us of our sweetest childhood memories.

The Conclusion:
Despite this being a very new resort. The Regent Phuket manages to impress in many aspects through innovative offerings and a dedicated team of people who are highly skilled and passionate in delighting their guests. We really enjoyed our stay in the resort and plan to return here again perhaps later next year to relive the amazing experience of our personal paradise in Phuket.
