Radisson Grenada Beach Resort
Ranked #4 of 11 Hotels in Grand Anse
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed February 5, 2014

My wife and i just returned from spending a week at this resort. The location is convenient to many restaurants and sits in the middle of Grand Anse Beach. The hotel as of Feb 5 is still under renovation and appears all work should be done in the next few weeks,
Pros: Staff is very friendly and tries to help. Rooms are clean with new AC units which are pretty quiet. Food in the restaurants and bars is reasonable for Grenada. Happy Hour is every evening from 6-7 all local drinks and local beer is 1/2 price. The Manager holds a nice cocktail party with food and rum punch on Tuesday evenings. Upon arrival you are served a fruit punch while waiting to check-in. Things go ralatively slow in Grenada so be patient and understand the pace of life is much slower than most people are use to. The hotel has excellent security - even though we never felt it was needed they were always present along the beachfront and at the entrance. The new easy to use safees in each room were great. There are now 3 bars - pool, beachside/pool and main bar. The pool bar by the waterfalls closes around 5 or so, but the other 2 bars are open late. For parents of SGU students they offer a special discount and really appreciate the parents staying at the hotel. A big plus is on of the SGU bus stops/turarounds is right accross the street from the resort making it very easy for students to meet up with their parents. On parents weekend parents can ride the buses to and from the True Blue campus. We never ran out of hot water in the shower!

Cons: Bar service is slow the result of staff not being properly trained on how to make drinks. The bartenders also have too many local tropical drinks to memorize the proportions so the same drink from different bartenders or even the same bartender may taste different. Each time the bartenders pour liquor they unscrew the cap, pour out the liquor then rescrew the bottle caps, which takes too much time. Apparently they have never heard of pourers on bottles. The whole resort has been recently painted, however the housekeeping carts and baggage carts have already nicked the railings on the 2nd floor and scraped the exterior walls. If you need a beach towel you need to go the the front desk. This is the only resort i have ever stayed at where there were not piles of towels by the pools and near or on the beach. No one tells you that you need to get your pool/beach towels from the front desk. When you try and print out anything from the 3 computers in the Bus. Room you have to email the documents to the hotel for them to printout even though there is a printer in the Bus. Room next to the computers. This is just plain dumb having to get the email address from the front desk, send the email, go back to the front desk tell them you sent the email and ask them to print out the attachments. Someone who knows how to properly train employees and understands how to be efficient needs to come in for a few weeks toget everyone working as a team - often it seems like the left hand does not know what the right hand is doing. The wait staff did not seem to be assigned specific areas so 2-3 different persons could come by to take your order or no one may come by because they thought someone else was taking care of you.At the time of this writing there was only one operating ice machine for guests - note you need to use your room card to operate the ice machine.
With good training, attention to detail, review of processes to improve efficiency and proper maintenance, this resort can be moved from being very good one to an excellent place to stay.

Last minute booking and was pleased this hotel was available, especially with the write up of the hotel. Check in 1300 - good; room not available until after 1400 - not good! Expedia said checkout was midnight - GREAT; actual checkout is noon - not good! Told the desk clerk about the mix up and requested the room till 1500, was told he would check with management and get back to me - never did. Went down and inquired a little while later (with another desk clerk) and was told the room was available but she would have to check with the manager; the manager said "no, they may need the room", not even an I'm sorry or alternative offer - not pleased with that attitude! The room was clean and looked nice, the bed was comfortable, nice big TV and free internet - things are looking up. The room had an adjoining door which was as sound proof as paper, could hear the people next door with no problem. The bathroom door was old and needs replacing, it was too wide to shut and there was about an inch gap at the bottom. The sink was recently modernized but still unfinished around the edge. The hotel complex is huge but there was no hotel guide to tell me what they had to offer, nothing for the TV to tell me how to operate it or what stations were available. I inquired at the desk but the clerk couldn't find a guide for me. Nothing in the room to tell me about the restaurant or room service. Breakfast was buffet service which I normally like but the food was cold and the cost was way too expensive. Loved the pool with waterfalls even though they were working at one end of it. Lunch at the pool bar was good however, my cheeseburger came with no cheese and then bill was wrong and it took over half an hour for a manager to approve a credit card charge back so they could recharge me the correct amount. Management needs some serious performance reviews. The island's laid back down rush it attitude was stretched to the limit here. Due to it's location and with all the work going in to modernize it, this resort has great potential but not with it's current problems - I wouldn't stay here again.

Room Tip: Don't get a room with an adjoining door!

We stayed one night in a beachfront room on Jan 31st.

The Good:

Both pools are now open. The larger wrap around pool has one section where they were still completing tiles, but the pools are open. Both pools were very clean and great.

They just opened the beachfront pool bar by the smaller pool when we were there and its a great spot to grab a drink

The rooms are newly renovated to Radisson style with very comfortable beds and a modern look. The electrical outlets offer many options so no need for adapters if you are from USA. AC worked beautifully.

The Staff was generally helpful

The location is perfect

The Bad:

The shower is one of those where the glass wall only extends half way...so water ends up all over the bathroom floor if you are not very careful. I hate that design

Beach/pool towels were hard to find

Drinks were just ok...too sugary in general. They use mixes instead of fresh fruit

We did not eat at the resort opting to eat at other independent locations instead. However I asked and the breakfast buffet is $53 EC or about $20 US. Coffee was 10EC or about $3.75 US

Room Tip: Make sure you room is newly renovated

We have been at the resort for 4 nights. The staff is very nice. Rooms clean and bed comfortable. Beach view fabulous. Room service breakfast great. Location great. Taxis always available. One issue. We cannot get towels and washcloths. Have used the same damp towels for three days. The housekeeper took our washcloths day before yesterday and we have not had one since!

My wife and I recently spent 4 days at this resort and were disappointed with almost everything. After reading numerous mediocre reviews about the hotel we decided to chance it and go there anyway. Almost everything we read prior to going came true. While I must admit that the staff was friendly and sympathetic to our plight, they seemed helpless in being able to resolve things. We booked a premium beachfront room and were whisked through the checkin process. When we arrived it was already dark out so we gave the room a quick once over with the valet and started to unpack. I then spent the next 1/2 hr killing Mosquitos and a few crawling bugs. Satisfied that we had done as much as we could we went out to get some supplies. When we returned our keys didn't work, requiring a long walk back to the desk for new ones. The bathroom had a sewage smell that seemed to be coming from a drain in the floor. I covered it with a towel and it dissipated. The next morning we awoke to take a shower and were met with no hot water. A problem that persisted the entire time we were there. We were told that when everybody showers in the morning this is common, but every morning we would call and hot water would appear an hour later. I also opened the blinds to look at our beautiful view and realized it was completely blocked by a giant palm tree. Our oceanfront room had no view of the ocean. All through our stay the food was very mediocre and the breakfast buffet was usually accompanied by a lot of flies. The ongoing construction there was not as much of a problem as we had read about and seems to be winding down. In fairness the overall property, beach and location were very nice. The staff also accommodated us with a late checkout as our flight wasn't until 7PM. The only problem there was that when we got our final bill there was a page of charges on it that were not ours. It took quite a long time to sort that out. This is a resort in a perfect spot that still needs a tremendous amount of work. The rooms were very dated, the food was not good. I don't know if I would ever give this place another chance, I would have to read a lot of positives first.

Room Tip: Do not take room 703..

We stayed in the hotel over the Christmas and New Years! It was a wonderful vacation! The staff was superb and very helpful! Mackeera at the front desk was especially one of the best persons to help with all the questions we've had - and we had many! She helped us with arranging the tours and with the day to day questions as we stayed there for over a week! We highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting the beautiful island of Grenada!

As other reviewers have said, the renovation work is ongoing, however there is little disruption to the holiday pleasures. Sea view first floor room was lovely, with room service every day. Staff are all very friendly and helpful. The hotel is literally right on the beach, so the beautiful sea is 20 yards away - wonderful for a swim before breakfast, or as the sun dips down in the west. Good food from varied menus. THe swimming pools are beautifully set in the gardens, kept very clean and with the water temptingly warm. Plenty of loungers, and umbrellas to shade from the sun. The gardens are also being re-vamped, so things look very fresh and pretty. Shops and a range of other places to have a meal are within easy walking distance of the hotel. We stayed for 10 nights, and had a really lovely holiday at this hotel. would definately recommend it, however we are sure the prices will increase once the renovations are completed.

Room Tip: ask for first floor sea view, or first floor garden view, then people are not walking past your sitt...
