My wife and I visited from Feb 16-23 and we had a very relaxing trip. The beach, pool, & grounds are great, and it had a nice, easy-going feel. On the other hand their mismanagement of all-inclusive guests is a big problem.

ROOMS – Clean and functional (until the towels ran out) and was fine overall. In line with a 3 star hotel. On the plus side the furniture was new and the mattress was very comfortable.

POOLS & GROUNDS – The fantasy pool was absolutely wonderful. Very tranquil with lots of chairs and umbrellas. On the downside, the water was a bit too cool and the jaccuzzis were not any hotter than the pool. There are sections in need of repairs but overall it was one of the nicest pools I have seen. There is also a smaller, standard pool by the entrance that was good for cooling off. The common areas (especially around the fantasy pool) are landscaped wonderfully and with it being an older resort you get the benefit of mature plants. We also loved the decor of the restaurants/bars, modern yet laid-back. Outside of the main areas the resort is quite tired and could use some work.

BEACH – The resort has the best location on Grand Anse. Soft sand, blue water, trees for shade…great place to relax and soak in the sun or go for a walk. We never had an issue finding chairs but I would imagine that it could be a problem if the resort had been fuller. Also happy that the vendors aren’t too numerous or pushy. I recommend walking past the end of the bay over to Morne Rouge (aka BBC) beach for a really quiet spot.

ENTERTAINMENT – Not much happening on the resort. Every night has some music playing in the main bar area but generally we were too tired from walking & swimming to stay for long. We actually liked the fact that it remained quiet around the resort as made it even more peaceful.

FOOD – We were on the all-inclusive plan so all of our meals were buffet with lunches/dinners at the Tradewinds and lunch at the Oasis grill. The meals were adequate but very repetitive. Breakfast was your basic buffet (eggs, toast, sausages, bacon). Lunch by the pool was BBQ (burgers, hot dogs, side dishes) and dinners were a boring selection of meats and sides that were not much different from what was found at lunch. The frozen cocktails at the bars were absolutely phenomenal, I’m dreaming of coconut toastie right now!
One complaint is that there was no way to identify all inclusive guests so we were constantly being asked by confused staff for our room number which we had to keep reminding them was all inclusive. We also had to keep asking if certain things were included or not, which most of the staff had no idea of the answer to. We felt like criminals on a number of occasions as we were chased down by staff as we left the buffet and had to provide our room number…again. 
The worst event was on our final day where we checked out at noon but still had 2 hours before the bus left for the airport and when we went for our final meal we were surprised to find out that our all-inclusive privileges had come to an end. We have stayed at many resorts over the years and this has never happened. Coincidentally the manager was also eating lunch at the same time and instead of rectifying the situation simply gave us a “too bad”. It is a shame that this was the final impression of the resort as it has certainly cost them in my rating.
But I must note that even though confused, the bar & restaurant staff were amongst the nicest people you will meet.

PROS – Nice beach location, fantasy pool, landscaping, staff
CONS – All-inclusive guest mismanagement, food selection, some sections of the resorts are in need of repair

We were told by previous visitors to expect a little better than a "Motel 6" and they were right. Our room was on the 2nd floor walkup of the last strip of rooms away from the beach. No refrigerator, no safe, no USA wall plugs or converters so I couldn't use my breathing machine the entire week, which wasn't life threatening, but made my sleep pattern erratic. One washcloth for 2 people, no cold water in the bathroom sink, only burning hot. The shower shut off in the middle of showering every morning. Nighttime showers were a little better. We asked them to fix the water twice, both times - no change, so we gave up. When we saw our room we asked for another room, but they were all booked and that was on Sunday. They said maybe on Wednesday there would be an available room. When we checked, they said yes, but it would be $72.00 more per night. We took it for the remaining 3 nights. We got the safe and frig, but still only 1 washcloth, but at least we were ocean front and had a beautiful view. When we arrived on Sunday, it was already 8:00PM, so we just wanted something to eat at the hotel. When we walked into the restaurant, we asked if there was a menu or just the buffet, and she said "no" only the buffet. Since we were hungry and didn't have a choice, we had the buffet and it was mediocre at best. When we walked around to check out the grounds, we saw another beachfront bar that had a menu of burgers, sandwiches, etc. that we could have eaten at. We were pretty annoyed that they didn't tell us about this place to eat. The buffet breakfast was included with our room rate and that was also mediocre at best. Raw bacon, tasteless sausage, white watermelon and white grapefruit every day. I thought the Caribbean had the best fruit? No mangos. No papaya. No pineapple AND they didn't get any in the whole week. They didn't even have the fruit to make drinks. I ordered a pina colada, and got a mud-slide because they didn't have pineapple! They just decided to give me a mud-slide without asking me first? My husband had a bloody mary with no celery! They shouldn't have a bar if they don't have the appropriate fixins to make the drink right! As if all of this isn't enough, there are not enough beach chairs for the amount of guests AND no beach umbrellas, so unless you want to fry in the sun; and I mean fry, you have to scramble to get a chair to put under the beach tree where 10 other beach chairs are crowded in the shade. Isn't that cozy! Oh wait, theres more - no beach towels either! I started asking for a beach towel at 9:00AM and at 11:30AM I was still told "there should be some in a few minutes". Bottom line, they don't have enough to go around. They take guests until they are at full capacity, but then they can't provide the amenities for their guests! I'm sure they knew they were going to be fully booked, so all they had to do was purchase enough towels! The problem all the way around is "poor management"! Actually, I'm not sure if they don't know how to properly run a hotel, or if they just don't care. Well, if you must go to this resort, bring a beach umbrella; your own beach towels and your own washcloths. It will save you a lot of aggravation. The only consolation is that the beach itself is beautiful. The water is warm, clean and crystal clear, but there is a strong under toe. If I do go again, I would stay at one of the boutique hotels.

After reading all the reviews before our holiday, there was a bit of apprehension due to the tails of bugs, ants, mosquito's, bad service, no towels, cold food to name but a few, but again the Grenada Grand did not let us down.

As returning guests our expectations of the resort were very high, and I have to say that we found the experience even better than last year.
Yes, there are certain area's that need a little bit of tender care, but isn't this the case at most hotels?

Improvements from last year include a wider selection of choice at breakfast, BBQ option at lunch, more varied evening menus and entertainment at night, not to everyones taste, but we enjoyed it. Yes, the pool environment needs a lick of paint and plaster, but it is one of the most spectacular pools you will see.

Again, we can only compliment the staff for their service, to many to name, but as many people have said, it can be slow, but this is Caribbean Time.

The room we stayed in was a Beachfront room on the second floor with excellent views over the sea, and this was kept very clean, again, one day serviced before 10:00, the next day after 15:00, but it was always spotless.

If you dot fancy eating in the resort, there are numerous restaurants within walking distance (felt very safe walking at night), a short taxi ride away, or if you want to eat in town, you can always catch the local bus, it's an experience but well worth it.

Overall, if you want a slow, relaxed and peacefull holiday, this is the place to be, and there where no bugs, yes the ants bite, my anti mosquito wipes kept the mosis away, overall very good service, we got towels for the beach every day, and the food was hot and very enjoyable.

Definitely coming back next year

Just one last comment, if you see a cruise ship in the harbour, I strongly suggest you get a beach chair before the Caribbean Cat turns up and 50 odd people invade the beach for an hour and half

Room Tip: Definitely get Beachfront, the higher the better

Perfect beachfront location makes up for a lot of shortcomings. Overall, it's a pleasant enough place, but it's the little things that keep it from being a truly 5-star resort. The rooms are just functional - in fact they could really use an updating - no charm, but clean. No in-room fridge. Housekeeping was adequate (except the time they barged in at 8:30am to clean while I was still sleeping).

The pools are nice and the restaurants are OK, but there are some good food options on the road within a short walk of the hotel. Very expansive grounds, well maintained. The staff tried to provide top quality service, but it's not up to the level of a 5-star place. Still, it's the cheapest place on Grand Anse and I did feel like I got my money's worth.

This hotel is best known for its location (right on Grand Anse) and its beautiful grounds. It is an extensive group of buildings, nicely placed and landscaped. Two pools, one right on the beach, a restaurant (very average) and a bar which serves food (pretty good callaloo soup). The Grand Anse is old (it was a Holiday Inn in the 70's) and it shows sometimes but they are obviously working to redo rooms. Keep that in mind; expect things not to be new and shiny and some things not to work so well (our door lock fell off one day). The staff is kind and helpful but extremely slow--that though is the tempo of all of Grenada and, once one is used to it, it is fine. We were only there three nights but could have stayed longer. The hotel is separated from the beach by a fence which can be locked at night and it is patrolled all night as well (so are the stores. Not certain exactly what that means though I recall lots of petty theft on Grenada during previous visits--none this time). Grenada is a beautiful, wonderful, poor island and again one must keep this in mind. The Grand Anse resort is right at a bus stop (basically a dollar EC to anywhere) and across from a supermarket (there is a better one a mile or two further along road towards airport) and a bank. All of these of course are within easy walking distance. One of our rooms had a refrigerator (we all used it), Ice was readily available as was room service. All together a good place to stay and I would return.

Room Tip: We had three beach-front rooms and all seemed to enjoy their locations and views.

Having read all the reviews, I would say that the truly negative and the truly glowing are overstatements. Beautiful grounds, very good food in the restaurants and bars (seafood--when in Rome...), stunning and relatively empty beach, and poor service by nice people who just don't seem to understand prompt service and attention to detail. But hey, "it's Grenada." There was also no real valet or concierge service. I blame the management. If you are looking for a Westin or Marriott, go elsewhere--to another island. But if you want a more relaxed, and maybe even more authentic caribbean, relaxed vacation, stay here.

The second floor executive beachfront room we had was nice, but basic. Instant coffee in the room was a disappointment. Do the buffets in the restaurant--even if you eat light, it's the way to go if you want to eat in a timely manner. Shop at the Food Fair across the street for fruit and breakfast/snack basics--small fridge in the room. The "reggae busses" are a cheap alternative to the taxis. The bus stop is right outside the grounds. We paid $1.50 pp US for short trips--per a guide that said they may try to bilk you for more money (and they did, but hold your ground--"off route" additional charges are a scam).

I never received a confirmation of our $225 a night reservation, and they tried to tack on a much higher rate when we arrived. They eventually corrected it (long wait), so next time, I am doing a print screen of my on-line reservation.

Don't go if you are expecting a wild night life--it isn't there (and frankly, you would probably ruin it for those who want a laid back environment).

We'd do it again, but will first check some of the prices and reviews for a couple of the other Grand Anse resorts.

Room Tip: The executive beachfront rooms are in a three or four story motel-type building, and a little furthe...

We stayed at this resort in early February and are repeat guests. The location and property is the best on Grand Anse Beach. It's simply a Paradise location if you just want to enjoy the beach. The grounds are always impeccably maintained with good security along the perimeter. There have been some improvements like furniture, decor and some renovated rooms which has been a plus to the overall ambience and comfort of the resort. We stayed in a renovated beach front room which was perfect. Air conditioning worked well. However the only downside was the seamless entry bathroom which needed to be designed better and it's really for a bigger space. You have to crouch up to the shower and put many towels on the floor so as not to flood the bathroom. The pools are always welcoming however the floor/paint needs to be overhauled. And of major importance is that continuous staff training is required. While there were many trainees at the front desk the service and knowledge was lacking. Food service and housekeeping staff though friendly need to improve on their speed and willingness to go beyond for guests. You can see a few staff members who really stand out and make a difference and for the rest it's as if they just do what they have to. There was not enough bar staff during such a high peak season as well as the fact that the pool bar closes too early in this same peak season. Overall however with some more improvements this is a gem location. The value for money is superior compared to other pricier hotels on Grand Anse.
