“Fabulous location with beautiful gardens let down by poor food, average service and rooms”
Reviewed March 24, 2012 via mobile

We have returned for the third time, which might seem odd given what I have put in the title. However we have learnt to mitigate the poor aspects of this hotel. The food can only be described as awful, there is no redeeming feature, even the simplest dish such as an omelette can be ruined. The answer is to use the several places nearby all within easy walking distance. The rooms, they have started a refurbishment programme so make sure you get one of these. The facilities are good the swimming pools are far better than most hotels I have been to, and very child friendly. The other amenities are good too, with water sports nearby all part of the hotel. When you do buy it food and drink are expensive, there is a supermarket over the road where you can buy all the usual drinks and food. Fridges are available in the room at ten ec dollars a day. There are two free ice machine but they can be often out of order. Service is hit and miss it can be very good and very bad, but if you have a problem they more often than not respond quickly, you just wonder why they cannot anticipate some of these niggles before they are discovered by you the customer. Hope you all find this balanced and useful.

We spent a week at this lovely hotel. Beautiful unspoiled beach, lush tropical island. No crowds like more popular islands. The hotel is in a great location. The staff was lovely and very helpful . 3 very nice swimming pools. No hassle to get lounge chairs. Good food at their restaurant. Our ocean front room was clean, comfortable and reasonably priced. We plan to return next year.

Room Tip: We loved being ocean front.

I was in Grenada for a workshop and stayed at the Grenada Grand (along with 15 other colleagues). Check-in was courteous, quick, and efficient, taking only about 5 minutes per guest. I'm not sure if it's because they already had our information in the system or what. We got a welcome punch on reception as well, which was nice. I found all the staff very friendly, gracious, and professional. In fact, I found most everyone in Grenada to be that way - very gracious and friendly to tourists. The rooms were comfortable - all the basic amenities, except for a fridge - which I really missed because I couldn't get to store simple snack items, along with my water or juice, That was very inconvenient! I think they charge US$10 per day, if you request one. Something like a fridge should just be part of the basic room amenities. Anyway, other than that the room was quite fine.

The hotel is located on a beautiful beach, Grand Anse, which has the softest, most powdery sand I've ever felt. The water was a bit boisterious - but beautiful. The area was fine - quite a few shopping places nearby and a supermarket across the road, as well as a bank. I didn't see much in the way of nightlife. My colleague and I visited it the nearby Vendors Market, which was a letdown - not much to see and a few seedy characters hanging around.

Grenada itself was nice. We didn't get to see much of the island, but visited the town. There wasn't much shopping around, really...we were disappointed in that. The local Market seemed a bit cramped together, but you can get lots of spices and fresh provisions there. Everyone we met was really nice.

All in all I enjoyed my stay! Would recommend more for guests seeking a quiet holiday.

This is a fine hotel at the beach in Grand Anse. It seemed not to be very well maintained, but we had a pleasant time there. The main, rounded pool, is very nice. Lots of families with kids though. Prices were a bit too high for what it offered, so I'd recommend looking at other resorts at the same location. Food was alright. Try to explore restaurant recommendations in St. George instead of eating at the hotel. The staff was a bit confused to operate credit cards and return change for US dollars. Be patient, they're all nice people in Grenada.

Room Tip: Try to get an upgrade for a beachfront room with a fridge

Visited this resort in February 2012 for 4 nights.

Pros
- Resort located on a fabulous beach
- The resort was well kept and clean
- Staff were mostly pleasant
- Rooms were average and clean (nothing special)
- Once the resort could accomodate they will allow you to check in early
- Free wifi (which didn't work in my room but did in my friends)

Cons
- Pool towels were limited (you need to get these first thing in the morning)
- Ice machines stopped working periodically (maybe due to the constant usage by guests)

I would definitely return.

Room Tip: Get a room close to the pool as these rooms were situtated in close proximity to the beach and pool...

This resort is 30 years old & most of the rooms feel like it. A/c compressor units right there next to you as you sit on the balcony or patio. Bathrooms were small while the rest of the beachfront room was a good size. Nice view of the beach although 1/2 the view was obscured by a large tree.
Public spaces like the bar, restaurant & lobby were all renovated & looked up to date.
The pool was large & could do with a little maintenance. Breakfast was good. For lunch they serve sandwiches with cold soggy fries. Yuk!
We ate dinner once at the resort, a buffet which was surprising good ( shrimp stir fry +) but preferred a different venue for dinner each night & went to several very good restaurants on the island.
Beach was great, over 2+ miles of powder & calm clear waters.
Locals selling stuff on the beach were not aggressive & annoying like they are on some islands.
I'd go back again. Great prices for a great beach.

Room Tip: Get a room in the new 4 story bldg. I think they are the executive beach front rooms/suites.

Grenada Grand Beach resort is on a large site with huge frontage on the best part of Grand Anse beach. Well-kept gardens and 2 good sized pools and several bars, main restaurant and beach and pool bars/restaurants. We got a good deal through LateRooms.com for 2 weeks from 16 February with a beach front room (room only basis). Room was average in size and design but recently painted with 2 very comfortable double beds, TV, coffee making machine, nice balcony, functioning bathroom with plenty of Crabtree & Evelyn toiletries. Air con was very effective if a little noisy but you don't notice after the first night. Only drawback was no fridge (can rent one for $10 per day but in short supply). Only 2 ice making machines for whole site. You can use the hotel sunbeds on the beach but you have to take them there yourself and they ask you to bring them back at the end of the day (not a problem) and there are lots of trees on the beach providing lots of shade. Fabulous beach, safe swimming, clear water, powdery sand. You do get cruise ships coming in (you can see St Georges where they dock from the beach) but the passengers usually use sunlounger further up the beach so don't really encroach on your space. Only had 2 meals in hotel (by pool and sunset bar) while there and were not impressed. We usually ate a the 3 restaurants up the beach and also in one of the other hotel's restaurants. We would especially recommend Coconut beach restaurant (turn right on the beach coming out of your hotel) for fine dining at reasonable prices and Umbrellas bar and restaurant (turn left on the beach from the hotel) for more lively 'diner' style eating, sometimes with live music. There is a very good little travel agent attached to the hotel (Insight Travel) run by the lovely Charmaine and her staff who were very helpful and able to arrive all sorts of tours etc. There is a Manager's cocktail party every Tue evening when you can speak to the manager and his staff and they are very generous with the cocktails and it is a fun hour and opportunity to meet others at the hotel. The hotel was very quiet the first week but filled up the 2nd week with a 1 week medical convention so place was more lively with live bands/duos each evening (nothing the 1st week). We loved this hotel and had no complaints. However, there is very little in the way of entertainment (I think it depends on the number of guests in the hotel on a week by week basis) so some might find it rather quiet. However, the hotel is on a very good bus route (great fun, very frequent and cheap) to St Georges (the capital) where the main bus station is. From there you can get buses to all over the island. Main trips are round the island trip (by road) snorkelling/scuba diving trips and great for birdwatching apparently. The Grenadians are very friendly, crime rate is low and you feel pretty safe there but obviously you should take the usual precautions you would take anywhere. WiFi available in all rooms and there is also 1 computer to use free if you don't have your own with you.

Room Tip: Ground floor ocean front rooms tend to people walking past en route to the bar/restaurants/pools so...
