“A perfect summary of Highlands”
Reviewed May 17, 2013

Alvie Estate is, in the heart of Highlands, a place of absolute peace and well-being. All is perfectly managed to make your stay the best you can dream. The staff is very kind and reactive, chalets and cottages well fitted to be cosy and quiet.
We know Alvie Estate since years and have never been disappointed: every stay there is a great moment of pleasure, to enjoy the local activities. We can hardly imagine a better place to taste Scotland... a wee dram in the hand!

Since 1990, we love to go every year at Alvie for a 6-week stay with good friends. During all those years, Park Cottage became my second home, with a good comfort and full equipment, very nice and helpful people always prepared to help us with promptitude if we may have a special need. The Alvie location is superb and the view from the hills extrordinary scenic. When climbing up to the hills with my dog and falcons, I have the feeling to reach the paradise. My paradise.

We loved our stay here at the Alvie estate so much that we extended our holiday. The cottage, Wester Delfour 4, was well equipped for self catering, and beautiful for relaxing in the heart of the Cairngorms. The cottage was perfect for relaxing in front of the log fire and enjoying the view of the mountains over the fields after a day of strenuous hiking and activities. The place has a definate homely feel while also feeling clean and new.

We also tried out some of the activities on the estate; such as the horse riding and sampling their fresh venison. They were fantastic. The location is secluded enough to feel like you're getting away from it all, but still in short driving distance to bigger towns such as Aviemore and the whisky distilleries at Pitlochery.

Includes all modern conveniences and comforts as well as wifi and a landline phone.
We would love to return and would definately recommend the estate to others.

Room Tip: Wester Dalfour 4 is a great cottage to choose

Have stayed in Wester Delfour 4 cottage several times now over past few years, and have always enjoyed our stay. Cottage is clean and warm, and the kitchen well equipped. The wood/coal burning stove radiates plenty heat, and gives a cosy ambience on a cold night. Wi fi works well, as does TV. Bathroom is small but functional, shower water pressure could be better, but is adequate. My family (wife and two adult children) love our short vacations there, and will certainly return at some point.

We stayed at Alvie for the first time over 20 year ago and returned with the whole family last November to celebrate our daughter's 21st birthday. Seems strange to say it, but it was the ideal spot with easy travel arrangements for family coming from London, Glasgow, Edinburgh and Ullapool!
The house was just as beautiful as we remembered. It is so cosy with thick comfy carpets that you bounce along on, snug beds and huge baths with loads of hot water. We had the top flat for 10 people and it is really well equipped with everything you need to throw a great birthday dinner. It is spotless too there's not a speck of dust anywhere - and as we had a great game of hide an seek with my two year old niece so we were under beds, behind furniture and inside wardrobes!
The area around Aviemore has lots to do for all ages - we enjoyed an afternoon going up the Cairngorm funicular railway and a great coffee in the cafe at the top so you don't need to be super fit to have a good time. Can't wait to visit again.

Room Tip: We had Gran with us and she found the lack of a walk in shower a bit of a miss but as the flat below...

My husband and I and our two friends stayed here two years in a row. Our first visit was to use as a base to visit the polar bears at kingussie wildlife park which was fantastic. We also did horse riding, clay pigeon shooting, and archery on the Alvie estate which was fun. On our second visit we did more sight seeing and also visited Loch inch which is an excellent place and visited wildlife park again. The cottage is very comfortable and roomy and on a nice evening great to sit out in peaceful garden. If the evenings are chilly the log fire is wonderful and makes the rooms cosy. The kitchen is well equipped for cooking and we used this most nights. Highly recommend the cottage and helpful staff.

Room Tip: Park cottage for space and wifi

We love Alvie! A large group of us have stayed there every Spring for the last 10 years. The house is incredibly characterful, spotlessly clean, comfortable and relaxed. Great heating, big baths and loads of hot water - all essential given the whole point of this area is outdoor activities including biking, hiking, golf, adventure playgrounds, shooting, whatever, but these home comforts can often be lacking in rental properties. Everything you need is nearby - supermarket, great pubs and cafes, bike hire, etc, but the rambling estate is quiet and peaceful, and there are lots of walks and activities on the Estate.
It's great for groups of friends or families - our 2 year old loves the Top Flat, and happily trots up and down the many staircases and corridors (the house itself, with all its space and nooks and crannies is a big adventure for little ones).
Yes, the house is a bit shabby in places but it's a Victorian shooting lodge not a new build! And the payback is the vast amount of space in the flats and around the house.
Finally, everyone you encounter on the Estate or when booking is incredibly pleasant and helpful.
Can't be beaten really.

Room Tip: The big room in the Top Flat is massive. You can easily get a baby, cot and all the kiddie paraphen...
