“Bliss revisited ...”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 14, 2013

Recently returned to Oak House. Stayed in the twin room this time and found it equally comfortable, stylish and everything we wanted. Warmly welcomed. We enjoyed total comfort in this beautiful and immaculate house. Fabulously indulgent delicious breakfast cooked by talented Philippa. How reassuring in a changing world that some very special places stand revisiting. A delightful home and a privilege to be able to stay there. Wonderful.

Room Tip: Happily stay in either room - choice of twin or double.

lovely immaculate private home. Had driven from Heathrow after a long flight-just a perfect setting to rest and rejuvenate. The owner is very kind-her home is modern and comfortable and well tended. One of the best nite's sleep I can remember!

I stayed here for 3 nights during a 17th Century re-enactment weekend at Newstead Abbey. I had their wonderful double room to myself which was spotlessly clean and well maintained with all the facilities one could wish for. The bed was one of the most comfortable I have ever slept on (I would have loved to have taken it home with me!). On arrival, I was greeted by Richard, Philippa and most especially 'Wellington', with whom I fell in love instantly! I was given a lovely cuppa and cake in the sitting room, once I had unpacked, which was very welcome after a long drive. Throughout my stay nothing was too much trouble to Philippa including one night when I returned drenched from the rain that had fallen all day at Newstead, to be met at the door by her when she kindly took some of my re-enactment clothing from me to put in her utility room to dry overnight and then proceeded to provide me with beans on toast as I had not eaten that evening, to save me going out once more in the rain! Breakfasts here are substantial, well cooked and filling enough to set anyone up for the whole day. All in all, this place is a real diamond which I would highly recommend to anyone. Should I be fortunate enough to attend any future events in the area, I shall be booking in to the Oak House B&B for certain! This is an A* establishment in my view.

As everyone has mentioned already, a friendly, welcoming, clean, warm and comfortable B & B, with a lovely and friendly couple plus Wellington, a lovely Labrador who is a character in his own right
The caring and thoughtful touches are the icing on the cake of this great B & B
We are looking forward to meeting them all again

Stayed overnight during a work visit nearby and wanting something more personal than the faceless hotel chains!
Friendly welcome by Philippa and Wellington (v sweet) with a pot of tea and fruit cake. Shown to lovely double room, with home made biscuits and really comfy bed. Recommendations for local places to eat (pub few minutes walk away) and
Lovely breakfast - cereals, fruit salad, yogurt and nice bacon and eggs.
Love to stay again but booked up :(

Room Tip: Was in double room, but twin next door looked equally good

My girlfriend and I stayed at Oak House for two nights during a long weekend in Nottinghamshire. We went shopping in Nottingham on Friday and arrived at The Oak House at around 3.30 p.m., to be greeted by Phillipa and Richard, who are really friendly and made us feel at home straight away with a nice pot of tea and cake, served in one of the downstairs rooms reserved for guests. Squidgy sofa, tasteful furniture and soothing background music. Our double bedroom with en suite was superb; the bed, pillows and sheets were of superior quality and there was tea and coffee making facilities in the room.
For breakfast we had a choice of traditional bacon and eggs etc. or smoked salmon and scrambled egg. To start with there was also a selection of cereals, yoghurt and really tasty fruit salad including berries. What really impressed us was the quality of the food; nice thick non watery bacon, lovely farm fresh eggs and special sausages.

There is a Chef and Brewer pub (The Hutt), within a short walk and a Curry Restaurant at the other end of the road. Our main attraction of the weekend was to visit Newstead Abbey which is a few minutes away in the car. There are also some interesting places to visit nearby e.g. Southwell and the D.H. Lawrence Museum.

Our hosts were so friendly, they even gave me a birthday card. Both my girlfriend and I cannot recommend this B & B highly enough.

Room Tip: Double or the twin room are equally as good.

The welcome, care, courtesy, cleanliness, space, facilities and wonderful extra personal touches from Philippa and her husband are second to none. They are also two of the nicest , most genuine people you will ever meet and within minutes I felt as though I was visiting good friends. It's even worth selecting the area for a holiday just to stay here - in a lovely environment and not too far from amenities and places of interest. LB
