“Sumui Buri best”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 26, 2012

We stayed at Samui Buri resort for four days. The first thing we observed was the delicate attention to detail the hotel upholds.
We were checked in here very quickly and were given complimentary ice cold welcome drink - very refreshing after such a long journey!
As we approached the island, we were overwhelmed to be greeted with cold towels served by the team of staff at Samui Buri staff. They all were extremely friendly and had the nicest smiling welcoming faces!
We then were taken Immediately to our spacious and comfortable garden villa which had luxurious amenities. The bathroom was truly amazing with a large bathtub and a powerful shower which we enjoyed with the complimentary range of Samui Buri gels and soaps.
One of my favourite things about the island was the relationship that my family and I built with the staff. As the island is small, you see the same staff everyday. Everyone was extremely friendly and couldn't do enough for you. The hotel provides free water which is constantly topped up at dinner time and throughout the day. The beach and pool are also stunning and the hotel provides free canoes which were a lot of fun in the sea. Overall I would just like to summaries how great Samui Buri is. And the best bit is definitely the attention you receive from the staff from start to finish. We left the island the same way we arrived, with all the staff wishing us well right to the car. To conclude - Samui Buri equals paradise!

The hotel is absolutely wonderful. Beautiful and totally luxurious! The staff are all kind and help ful. Swimmingpool super and big having that infinity feel to it by the sea.

Restaurant is fairly expensive and drinks are just really overpriced. When you are by the pool a can of soft drink is 80 bat and a small bottle of water is 60 bat. Totally overpriced. A sandwich with chips is 250 bat and the Thai food is also expensive. The quality is no better than anywhere else.

The whole hotel has been build in a way where you just do not get a feel of the sea. The only part of the hotel facing the sea is the restaurant, the swimmingpool and the gym. A few of the front villas have a glimpse of the sea as well. The villas have a extremely small private pool and the rest of the outdoor area is a bit bland and not very cosy to sit.

We rented 2 rooms, 1 for our 3 children aged 14, 10, 8. They do not have connecting doors but they have connecting balconies. We have acces to the pool - but the pool is very shallow and very narrow and the children have not been interested in using it at all. Our view is of a building and a fence. This is quite general for the hotel. The buildings are lovely and the inside of the hotel and the rooms are lovely, however, you just dont feel you are near the sea at all. We even went to look at some rooms on the third floor thinking that this would make a lovely view, but all the roofs of the buildings are humongously tall and big and blocking the view here as well.

The hotel is quite remote, however, the hotel will take you to the main road to get on one of the ring road taxis. You will then just need to pay for a taxi back. On the main road near the hotel there is nothing interesting to do or see.

I must emphazise that the hotel is lovely, there is just something missing. It seems quite boring here.

Stayed here for 5 nights-

Pros:

an amazingly designed hotel very muchin keeping with thair design. on arriving you get told to sit, relax and they give you a welcome drink and warm cloth to wipe your hands and face with some aromatic in it. we were offered an upgrade to a villa for 2000 tbat and we went to see 2 villas and our delux room and our conclusion was: the villa is detached from everyone else, has only a slightly bigger room space i.e. with a more genorous sitting room and it includes a pool but the pool is more for paddling and cooling off in- too narrow and short to swim in unless you are a child. we stayed with the delux room. the hotel is located pretty much on its on little stretch of beach with sun loungers provided. the beds are comfy and ours included a mosquito net canopy. all have balconies. the photos on the sites are representative of reality. breakfast is a buffet- 3 cereals, eggs as you like them, veal sausages, rashers, choice of fruit, selection of breads, mini crossiants and other little cakes (not great), juices (but from a packet not freshly squezzed). has a very big swimming pool with is angled so that it appears to merge with the sea. there are seats in the pool connected to a pool bar so you can have a drink. reception staff and caddy driver very friendly and helpful. golf caddy to drive you from a to b locally. minibus service for free into town twice a day. Got a very good aloe vera massage on a bed on the beach- nice location for it and soooo cheap.

Cons
Gym on site but old equipment. The weights machine was broken.
The pool bar serves a lot of cocktails made with colouring rather than real fruit so you have to be sure what you are asking from is made with fruit.
the biggest issue we had with what has the makings of a wonderful holiday venue was the restaurant and pool bar staff- with the exception of one lady in the restaurant- the others seemed bored and uninterested. while it was not busy this is somewhat understandable but it got to the point where we had to try get their attention (from where they sat idle or chatted amongst themselves) to get some tea, a drink from bar. also their clothes were dirty (pool bar staff) and as one made my drink cutting up a pineapple I could not but wonder if the hands he used to touch my pineapple and straw were clean!

We thoroughly felt welcome from the moment we arrived. Excellent English speaking staff (apart from late night staff) who did everything to help you.

Wet season Mae Nam was very quite - which we were looking for but there are plenty of restaurants and bars open to cater for a young couple.

The hotel and room itself was superb - fantastic. Everything you see in the pictures is exactly what you get (apart from we thought our villa would have a large pool - in fact the large pool is only for the 'Royal Villa', slightly disapointing but with the beach and pool we never used it.)

Overall a great luxury getaway before the hussle and bussle of Phuket.

Room Tip: From the pictures on websites we thought our villa would have a large pool - in fact the large pool...

We stayed in the first 2 nights in the second floor rooms. In wasn't convenient because we were with a baby and u have a lot of stairs and it's not so close to the beach and restaurant. After 2 nights we moved to a private villa, we were there at the low season (June) and manage to book the villa with a private pool in the same price of the second floor room in booking last minute.
The room and it's facilities are very good in all the room types, in a THai wooden style, not in a modern cool style. We asked for a villa that is close to the pool/ beach and restaurant and it was amazing and so fun! The private pool is nice but not so private, although that some of the villas have more private location of the pool. The friendliest staff I've ever seen, we're so nice with us and with our baby. The pool bar was nice, not the best shakes in Thailand but good. 100 baht for a fruit shake. Breakfast was very good, fresh and yummy. But... The restaurant is bad!! U can see that they are trying hard and make special evening but it's empty for a reason. Do yourself a favor and go eat at the resort next to samui buri at the beach- saree samui. We were lucky it's 50 meters from us. There are other nice restaurants around, harre'ys and more.
The pool itself is very good. The beach very quiet, at noon u can get a corn on a stick and some pineapple and egrols. The sand in chaweng is more beautiful but here u don't have people and noise

Just got back from a long weekend stay and we thoroughly enjoyed it. I feel any negative reviews on here just seem pedantic, particularly the one about the curtains. Why would you be in your room
in the day in such beautiful surroundings?! Rooms were spacious, clean and relaxing. The staff were friendly and courteous. Food was good enough and reasonably priced. Location is great as it is in a very quiet area although no problem to get a cab to near by boh put for somewhere different to eat. All in all a great stay and for the price you pay we felt exceeds expectations.
