“Pearl of Bang Por”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 11, 2014

We first found Armando's on our last night in Koh Samui two years ago and were kicking ourselves all the way home. Spending our last day walking on the beach, we found ourselves thirsty and noticed a restaurant on the beach. Had not even noticed it from the main road, so we walked up the steps in our sandy feet and enjoyed a soft drink. The view was nothing but beach and water, with a view of the island opposite. We were all fed up with the food at Infinity Resort (up on the hill) so we decided to return to Armando's that night for our farewell dinner. We made a reservation and came back about 7pm.
WOW.
They had our table ready, with fresh flowers in a vase, and we were welcomed with open arms. It took a bit of time deciding what to order, as the menu is like a novel. The food was FANTASTIC and we could not believe it took until our last night to discover this little gem. The servings are large, so there is no way of leaving and still feeling hungry - and it is brilliant value for money. Everything we ate was so fresh, clean and flavoursome. this place puts half of our Melbourne restaurants to shame. Half way through the meal we could not wait to return again. And we did.
Our most recent return to Koh Samui was in May this year and all the way we were picturing ourselves at our table looking out over the water. We were delighted to find that nothing had changed and were greeted by Franz with a look on his face saying "haven't I seen you before". Once we established that we had been there the year before, he sat with us and we talked about our last experience. His wife EH is a delight, with a lovely smile and wonderful service. Both Eh and her sister OH are the best unqualified chefs we have ever come across, putting "professional" chefs to shame. Being twins, if you get to know them you will easily spot the differences. There is nothing five star about this place, being laid back and relaxed. You will never get rushed out as soon as you drop your fork - not like other restaurants. Feel welcome to stay, sit back, enjoy the view and soak up the atmosphere. This second trip we basically ate there nearly every lunch and dinner, and most times lunch turned into dinner! Eating our way through the entire menu, not once did we find anything that was not superb.
The drinks menu was great and exceptionally good value - though you can BYO if you want. Thanks to Franz we found a very acceptable red wine - he even advised us were we could buy it.
He is a wealth of knowledge and extremely laid back, happy to talk to people and a pleasure to meet. We were torn between spruiking the restaurant or keeping it to ourselves as a wonderful secret.
Our last night we went to have a final drink, which turned into dinner - once again shafting the resort and their pretentious unchanging menu. It was sad to leave Franz, his family and the restaurant, but we have vowed to return again. Our experience was so overwhelming that we consider Franz, EH, OH, Armando and Banana to be our overseas friends.

Had a great dinner here last night. The place has a really good location by the sea. The restaurant itself is neat and cozy. The staff is really friendly...and the food was great and affordable.

“Fantastic menu and cold Singha”

You are right on the beach and the staff were very friendly and the atmosphere was amazing. I remember the thai rice that I ordered and I can say it was the best I have had in my travels to Thailand

“Great spot”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 16, 2014

Staying at the Infinity Resort up the hill, this place became our regular. The people were so friendly even looking after our grandson while we ate! Food was fresh - saw them picking the herbs from their garden as we ordered. Sunset on the beach was spectacular. Great spot to eat.

“Really nice food”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 13, 2014

I love this place and I visited it every second day while i've been living on Samui. This one is a little more expensive than nearest beach restaurants but
1) food is much, much better
2) it's clean
3) all the stuff is friendly and helpful

You should try anything from the section "Swiss food" in the menu. But the thai food is also good. Hot&sour salads are the best I ever had on Samui.

And it's the only place you can have decent grated potatoes (hash brown) on the island.
