“Wonderful stay March 2013”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 3, 2013

We spent a week at Code in the middle of March and had a wonderful time. The rooms were great, very contemporary, super comfy bed, well sized & well equipped (with great film & sport channels for those quiet nights in recovering from Jetlag). Advise asking for rooms from floor 2 and up for better views of the sea if you can handle the steep steps. But what really made our stay was the staff, such lovely helpful people, they made our time there a very relaxing & happy experience. Food was good and reasonably priced. Advise hiring a car/bike to explore the island as cabs are generally quite expensive. After returning from Koh Tao we used their facilities for the day (before flying home) and returning to Code felt a little bit like home. Highly recommend this hotel & would go back if we visit Koh Samui again.

Room Tip: 1st floor Rooms have a restricted view so ask for rooms on floors 3 or 4.. We asked halfway through...

Stayed here three nights, and you have to say the hotel is stunning. We had a room on the top floor, the view was awesome and the couch on the balcony was so restful. The room wad modern and large with separate kitchen dining, lounge area and bedroom separated by a glass wall. The bathroom was fine. The pool is top class, the restaurant dinner was very nice. This would be the perfect hotel for a lot of people. For us the location wasn't ideal. You couldn't walk to the beach or other restaurants. We caught the hotel shuttle to the local beach, the swimming wasn't pleasant muddy and rocks underfoot. But lunch was pleasant and we also had an evening meal by the beach which was very good.
Negatives, well the shuttle forgot to pick us up, luckily my girlfriend could ring the hotel. And breakfast, how it can take so long to cook an egg. One morning they ran out of eggs and had to go buy some. That morning they also ran out of both types of juice. And the toaster always burnt my toast, there was always a pile of burnt toast discarded next to the toaster. Minor details but so simple to fix.

Many thanks for your review!

Wonderful that you liked your suite at Code so much!

All guests are given a mobile phone on arrival so that they can call for the shuttle to pick them up on demand (or for 'room service' or to book spa treatments...)

Thank you for pointing out how some things could be improved regarding breakfast - I have flagged these issues up with the team and we will do all we can to improve things so when you come back you should notice the difference!

With regards to the location, the majority of our guests love the quiet privacy of Code which is a world away from the busier areas of the island, but we also have a wonderful new resort which we recently opened in Bangrak (Samui) called 'Lanna Samui' which is well worth checking out - close to both Chaweng and Lamai as well as being just a few hundred yards from beautiful Bangrak Beach 'Lanna Samui' is also an ideal location to get the very best from your tropical island getaway...

We look forward to welcoming you back sometime soon - but maybe next time have a look at 'Lanna Samui' and spend time at both to get the very best form both worlds!

With very best wishes,

Sara and the Code team

We were booked in at Code in February 2013 for 6 nights on vacation.

It is a beautifully designed and built place with fantastic views out to the sea from its hillside location. It is in the quiet north-western part of the island. If you want action, this place isn't for you.

We ordered the hotel pick up service and it all went well. Check in was great, with cool towels and a cold welcome drink. We rejected our first room as the pool was right outside it, which we didn't want on privacy/possible noise grounds, so they immediately moved us with no fuss. The new room was 100% ready but they soon brought us all the missing cutlery and crockery items.

The restaurant is open air. We had rain on the first couple of days meaning parts of the hotel were literally soaking, as there is green astroturf laid out in some public areas like the restaurant and bar. Not a great problem though. Breakfast was good though the staff seemed a little confused. We were offered the full menu one day and then a restricted menu the next day, with the message that we would have to pay ourselves for anything over 250 baht as that was the amount included in the room rate. Some staff training needed there I think and some consistency. We had room service too. The food was really very good, though understandably a lot more pricey than other places nearby. We didn't try the bar in the hotel but from what we could see there was a good selection of drinks. There was also a small gym.

We liked Code but there was one key problem and it led to us asking to leave. There were repeated power cuts of up to 3 hours long - not much fun in the humidity there. It became a major irritation. They offered to move us to a sister complex called Lanna at no extra cost, and we took their offer and it worked out very well. The explanation we were given is that Koh Samui has rolling power cuts, and the big tourist areas like Chaweng getting priority on power.

A couple of things to consider - the price of peace and quiet is that the hotel can seem a little isolated. We hired a scooter for 300 baht a day to get out and about, and it was very handy for zipping out to the local restaurants, 7-11, laundry etc. Another thing was that the hotel is small but so is the pool and there didn't seem to be that many sun loungers.

The staff were always friendly and welcoming, although English was an occasional challenge.

If you want to get out of the hotel there are numerous restaurants and a 7-11 on the main road. The Krua Bang Po restaurant is on the beach side of the street about 150m along after turning left onto the main. It is family owned, and the food was great value and very tasty. The massaman curry was fantastic, as were the giant prawns in tamarind sauce.

Many thanks for your review!

Wonderful that you liked Code so much!

Our apologies for the power cuts - as you were told these are felt 'island wide' at different times, but it is great that you liked our sister resort 'Lanna Samui' so much...

Being closer to both the airport and the busier areas of both Chaweng and Lamai (as well as being just a stones throw from beautiful Bangrak Beach, 'Lanna Samui' is also an ideal location to get the very best from the island, and many of our guests choose to stay at both 'Code' and 'Lanna Samui' during their trip to get the very best of both worlds...

Now you have tasted both 'Code' and 'Lanna Samui' I wonder which one we'll be welcoming you back to first!!!

With very best wishes,

Sara and the Code team

We stayed at Code for 5 nights in March 2013 and had a truly wonderful stay.

The hotel itself is about a 10 minute drive from Mae Nam beach, so it's quite private and isolated which is part of its appeal - you should consider this when booking; don't stay here if you want to be within close distance to all the Samui hustle bustle. We rented a car for our stay so we could get around the island and it was always lovely to return to this peaceful paradise after spending our days out and about. They have an amazing infinity pool with the most stunning views of Koh Phangan, and a great (and reasonably priced) day spa, so if lounging about at the hotel is more you're thing, then you could happily spend a few days doing this without getting too bored - but keep in mind this is not a 5-star resort, it is a 4-star boutique hotel so beyond the pool and day spa, there is not a whole lot else to do here; rather it makes a great, quiet base from which to explore the island. The restaurant is also reasonably priced and the food was always good. There are some excellent restaurants on Samui, so I would encourage people to venture out for dinner rather than dine in at the hotel each night.

The rooms themselves are super comfortable and very modern, open, and stylish - the glass doors to the balcony open up completely which is lovely. The beds are really comfortable, and the rooms come equipped with all of the amenities you would need. The bathrooms are on the small side and the shower pressure is quite weak, but this didn't really bother us as everything else about the hotel exceeded our expectations. Tip: request a room on the top floor for the most stunning views of the ocean and Koh Phangan (if you can manage the stairs).

The staff are all very lovely and helpful and are always there to assist - and a special mention to Joe who was always so friendly and provided such exceptional service.

Highly recommended if you are looking for nice, good value accommodation that is "away from it all". We look forward to staying here again!

Many thanks for your review..!

Wonderful that you enjoyed you time at Code so much and found it the ideal base to get the very best from the island - and a lovely place to come back to at the end of the day...!

The showers we have at Code have special 'rainforest' shower heads which create individual droplets rather than the normal 'jet stream' for a whole new sensation in showering...

I'll pass on your thanks to Joe, as he and the whole Code team do all that they can to make sure that our guests' time with us is the very best it can be...

We very much look forward to welcoming you back sometime soon!

We stayed here in January for 2 nights. We had a beautiful room overlooking the pool.I enjoyed everything about this lovely accommodation. Its great to hire a bike to get around .The local beach and restaurants are a few minutes away by bike.We had already spent 2 weeks on the island and loved the out of the way relaxed atmosphere .If you want to frequently travel to Chaweng then this is a little far away but to escape and relax and see the more authentic part of the island this is for you.We loved the design of the rooms and the friendliness of the staff. This isn't a 5 star hotel so you don't expect to waited on and receive 5 star service but what you get is a design led apartment/hotel with very good facilities.i can't rate it highly enough.

We booked 5 nights at Code after reading Tripadvisor reviews. The rooms are very comfortable and practical and in my view of much better standard than you would normally find in this price bracket. As previously reported it is a bit off the beaten track and this does make getting to some of the more popular attractions more difficult. They do need a regular shuttle to somewhere more user friendly than the main road at the bottom of hill and so therefore a scooter or car becomes a necessity. However beyond that I think this is a great little resort and we spent 6 great days here. The Restaurant is of decent standard and quite cosy and the staff general throughout the property are excellent. However the best innovation is the mobile phone they lend you. This not only has pre-programmed numbers for the reception at the hotel but you can take it on your travels and ring anywhere within Koh Samui. Do try Code.

Room Tip: Try the ground floor suite at the far end of the pool.
