We stayed for 4 nights at the Tropical Oasis villa. Loved the modern design and decors around all corners. The beach was nice and quiet, but a there weren't any activities available. Would be more fun to have watersports available. There were board games at the beach bar while we seeked shelter from the rain. Our private pool was clean and large which provided privacy. The villa itself was spacious and fully equipped. The resort provided a shuttle service because it was quite far from town. If you couldn't catch the shuttle back, taxi was quite pricey because the taxi driver might just name a price and rip you off. The restaurants in town were great. We tried a local restaurant called the Hut was authentic, tasty and affordable. The staff at the resort were helpful on making reservations for our airport transfers and booking our day excursions.

Overall I would recommend W Retreat to couples or friends who would like to enjoy a relaxing getaway in a hip & stylish manner.

The W Retreat Koh Samui is such a "Sweet Spot". Our entire family enjoyed the hotel, staff, and amenities. We can not RAVE enough about the the staff. We have been to many resorts all over the world and this Resort and its family have been among the BEST! When we first arrived we thought everyone was just overly nice to us, but we soon found out that this is "their personality", treating everyone like friends. It was quite refreshing!!!
Our daughter got a pretty bad sinus infection while we were there and she has asthma so it can get bad so we called for a hotel dr. Although they did not have one on staff they told us how to get needed items in Thailand and called to make sure the pharmacy had what we needed. Our hotel friends (staff) sent FLOWERS to our daugher the next day!!! This is the most incredible and personable thing anyone has everyone for our family on vacation. My daughter was so touched she actually cried when left.
The activities we booked were fab and we took the suggestions of the hotel staff and we were very happy with all, diving and ATVing, both a must do.
The hotel is a little out of the way from some of the main shopping spots, but you CAN negotiate prices to get to the shopping areas. The hotel van is accessible to take you to these spots and it was convenient, but at times we wanted to do our own thing.
Our family LOVED the rooms, the hotel amenities and of course the "Sweet Spot", my husband being an ice cream connoisseur!!! Please make sure to put the W Retreat in Koh Samui on your list of places to go!!!

Room Tip: All rooms are absolutely gorgeous. In the jungle suites, go higher to get an ocean view.

Stayed here for 3 nights and had the time of our lives! Once you pull in to the hotel the views from the lobby are outstanding! You see the "W" in the water overlooking the ocean and you have made it to paradise! Our check in was very easy and had a room waiting for us. They take you by trolley with your luggage down to the villas. We had a villa with a pool and twin beds. Our villa was #101 just a few feet from the beach. Loved the indor and outdoor rain shower. And the big bed out by the pool!
We spent most of our time on the beach and the beach bar. They have great drinks and food! Spent one day by the pool and had it to ourselves most of the time. Didnt check out the gym or spa but looked nice from the outside. Our fav thing at the hotel was the outdoor ice cream freezer. All you can eat ice cream? Yes please!!
Actually our most favorite thing was the Breakfast. Best breakfast buffet Ive had in a long time, aside from Vegas!
Every juice you can imagine and so fresh and delicious. We met the chef who made us try the fresh croissants with a curd butter that was to die for! Loved it!!!
Def recommend staying here!!

Room Tip: All rooms seem to be fantastic!

Dear StephaT,

Thank you very much for such a wonderful review on Trip Advisor and sharing your experiences with other travelers from your point of view.

We are glad that you enjoyed your time with us and thanks again for highlighting the facilities, be it your in- and outdoor shower, private day beds near the pool and of course the talk of the town “Sweet Spot” which is fully stocked with “goodies”

Our Culinary team is delighted to hear about your comments on the breakfast buffet as this truly pays off to put such a great effort in it and our customers are appreciating at the same time.

We would say – “Come back soon!”

W Koh Samui is an amazingly well designed property. You pinch yourself at how well thought out the choice of views, materials and fixtures are. It as delight to the eyes to appreciate the attention to detail in the public spaces and each of the villas.
The service and friendliness is top notch. Everything is thought out, from chilled juice and cold towels upon arrival, to stocking your room with an array of coffees, beverages and snacks.
If you are familiar with other W hotels, this is not a property where there is a lot of lively action. In fact, it is quite the opposite. The great open places do gather small groups for sunset viewing and the like, but it is not a place for large and wild partying. That is why it's called a 'retreat'.
The food and drink prices tend to be exhorbitant - paradise does have a price.
Traditional Thai dishes in The Kitchen restaurant were very good. We could not, however, bring ourselves to partake in the THB15,000 ($500) "romantic dinner" on the beach, which also did not include wine.
Random observations:
1. Don't expect to meet or talk with any of the other guests. It's a 'retreat', so everyone is into themselves.
2. Lots of Russians and younger Asians choose the W; not many Americans.
3. Surprised to see a number of people with small children/infants. Not what you typically associate with W brand. Most were well behaved but not all of them... (parents letting kids scream and leave trash on the beach).

We will definitely go back to enjoy this very relaxing retreat.

Room Tip: While you may be tempted to choose the villas on the beach side, they are actually less private and...

Dear William C,

Thank you very much for your kind time writing the review on Trip Advisor about your recent stay at W Retreat Koh Samui.

We are delighted to hear and see that you enjoyed our attention to details and that you have had a wonderful stay with us.

While we are promoting our “Retreat” to be of “Relaxing & Detoxing” during the day time, it does certainly not have passed your attention on the vibrancy that we are trying to create when the evening falls, such as Mo-Hee-Toe Madness night or with a more stunning view on the Gulf of Thailand with our Sunset Wowtini!

We do look forward to welcome you back soon to W Retreat Koh Samui.

Cheers,

I had been in contact with the W Samui for around a year before the big week finally arrived. I chose to get married at the W Samui after contacting 10 five star properties on the island and the W was the first to reply and instead of just sending a standard "wedding package" actually provided a custom response and answered all my questions individually.
We arrived 5 nights before the wedding before check-in time and were greeted at reception by the GM, events contact and operational manager who showed us around the property and offered us breakfast while we waited for our rooms.
The staff were extremely attentive and always made sure everything was done exactly how we wanted and as planned.
The breakfasts were a slight let down in the variety on offer. Everything on offer was excellent, we just felt that for a 5 star+ property the selection would be better especially the fruits which were basic.
The rooms were absolutely stunning, large and had every amenity you could ever imagine needing.
We got married on the beach at sunset and this was followed by a seated dinner and dancing on the W beach and SIP bar.
All 80+ people commented on the stunning resort grounds, attentive and impeccable service and the amazing food spread.
One area of improvement as well would be the manicure service which was not up to scratch but honestly I forgive them I just re-did my nails myself.
They were also kind in giving my parents and sister late check-out free of charge and again nothing was ever too much trouble for them.
The hotel also put me on to a wonderful lady Khun Chat who owns a production/event company called Bliss Events. She organised all our events we had in addition to the wedding - we have a family dinner and cocktail party the two nights before the wedding. Khun Chat also arranged our make up and hair artists who were excellent and did all the flowers and styling for the event.
My experience with the W will mean I will forever be loyal to a W no matter what city I visit now. Having stayed at 5+ star properties before I can confidently say this resort has it all and more!
I am usually not a huge fan of resorts in slightly remote areas however, because the resort was so fantastic we never wanted to even consider leaving and did once or twice for a meal in nearby Bophut or Chaweng.
We will be back! Special thank you to JJ our events contact at the W who never left our side and made sure everything was 110%.

Dear Carla,

Wonderful to see a review of your wedding event on Tripadvisor. I trust the honeymooning went well and you're back in Australia.

That was a week that kept us all busy; we really enjoyed having your guests here at W- such a lively and genuinely warm group of folks. We had to give JJ some time off after the celebrations to recover!

I appreciate you sharing the specifics of your stay, we'll pay attention to the manicure service and breakfast offerings. And we'll certain pass along your compliments to Khun Chat.

All the W team send their best to you and David and we look forward to seeing you both back in Koh Samui in the future.

All the best,

Great beach, location and facilities.
The service is absolutely appalling. Stayed for 4 Nights. Took 4 hours to check in and get our rooms, got here at 4pm, got to our rooms at 8pm. Pure incompetence. And the stories went on and on. Room not cleaned for 3 days....

A truly spectacular property, from the moment you arrive at the front entrance, and catch the view in through the entry corridor and lobby, out across the infinity pool with recessed seating areas at the Woo Bar, over the infinity edge to the sea beyond. The place is swarming with friendly and attentive staff. Check in was a breeze, then off via golf cart to our Beachside Retreat. Each retreat has a center reception area with mini bar, coffee maker, etc, with the living area and bedroom on one side, and the expansive bathroom on the other, including a cleverly integrated outdoor shower with glass walls all around situated between the reception area and main bathroom, where there is another beautiful shower and huge tub. There is direct access to your private pool from both the bathroom and the bedroom areas, and a nice covered outdoor lounging area, and two individual lounge chairs, all surrounded by lush landscaping and privacy walls. The beach area is also quite nice, with a pleasant bar, ample selection and variety of seating, and a nice beach. Of course, there is also a well equipped gym and beautiful spa. There are two main dining venues, The Kitchen Table, where breakfast (included) is served to all guests, which also serves lunch and dinner till late. Namu, an upscale Japanese restaurant, is located at beach level near the bar. The Woo Bar off the lobby has spectacular seating and sweeping views over the ocean. While not inexpensive, this property is worth it if you are looking for an upscale luxury retreat on a tropical island. It's a bit far from town, but the resort offers three times a day free shuttle service to town, which is handy, and offers a private taxi service also for fees slightly higher than the hit or miss local taxis.

Room Tip: You almost can't go wrong here.
