We spent 2 nights here - one on our way to Koh Tao and another on the way back, since the first night was so pleasant. The rooms are just beautiful... really enjoyed the concept of the open plan with the cute garden, outdoor living room and outdoor bathroom. As others have mentioned, you do get some noise from surrounding rooms - we had a family next to us one night and could hear everything they said, so although you might feel secluded, don't count on not being heard. The restaurant was below average: lovely location on the beach, but they need a new chef as the food's not up to the standard of the hotel. Service was very smiley, polite and friendly - reminds us how Thai hospitality used to be (we have felt the standards slip dramatically over the years).

We did have one issue with the motorbike we rented from them - it had a strange wobble to it right from the outset and the tyre punctured after us having driven only on the main road to Chaweng, no real bumps or incidents to note. They nevertheless charged us for the cost of fixing it - fortunately it was only $5 but since the incident happened only hours after we rented it and they knew we only went to Chaweng (and considering the incident put a hole in our day as well) we thought they could have waived that cost.

The main problem with Saree though is the location... we are not big fans of Koh Samui at all, it's so dirty and over touristed: Koh Tao and Phangan are much nicer. Saree is located too close to the Mae Nam jetty so the view is not very nice (unless you like looking at long, ugly piers). The water looks nice from a distance but a closer look will tell you it is very polluted - so much so that we went for a swim and promptly got out, as we could see it was brown and cloudy. The boats may be one contributor but there are also quite a lot of streams of goodness knows what water flowing over the sand and into the ocean in the area. The sand is originally white but look closely and you will see a layer of black residue.. yuck. It feels like Samui is overdue for a really good clean-up. Until then, we will steer clear.

Room tip: Both rooms we had were exactly the same so I don't think it's a big issue. Do be aware that the only view is of the small private garden (lovely though) - you can't see the ocean from the room at all.

beach front villa is not on the beach, it's behind the pool. each bungalow is surrounded by high walls which are ok for privacy, but you have no view at all... unless you open the large shutters at the front, but then you stare at the pool which is about five steps up ( no view of beach at all) . not worth paying a penny extra for a "beach front" at all. food ok, staff was friendly but it seemed a lot of them were new. no real bar to hang out at, just a small hut with two small wood tables. not comfy... over all ok, but nothing to write home about.

Room tip: beach front not really beach front

From the minute we arrived here everything has been wonderful. The room is gorgeous, the bed comfortable, and as for the bathroom, with open air shower-divine.
The staff have been so friendly and helpful, with advise about the island, tours, weather, shopping and organizing a safe and reliable motor bike.
We normally like to try out different restaurants, but have found we have kept to the hotels one this time, as after a full on day, its been heavenly to relax by the pool and then walk to a table set out for us on the beach.
As for the beach, our biggest dilemma was do we swim in the pool or the beach. The sea is clean and clear, and so warm.
The best thing if I could single one thing out, is the staff. They are all wonderful, and we could never list them all. But Eve at front desk, Lek, June, Ja, Aek and all the restaurant staff were wonderful hosts, the Omelet man, number 1. And Moss the man who served us the best drinks behind the bar, gorgeous, with a great sense of humor.
Our only advise would be dont hesitate to book this accommodation, we have been lucky enough to have stayed in many varied places, and we would rank this as one of the high lights, just take some time to get to know the staff, after all they are what makes the island what it is.

I usually rate business hotels, but this was a vacation trip and so one has to mindful about the different focus of a resort. For example, I had some small irritations including no iron/ironing board in the rooms and that it was difficult to get one, and poor TV reception, but then on vacation, those are minor issues for most people. A more pressing problem was the local 'wildlife', particularly the armies of microscopic ants that could get into a anything - but ask the staff for help on that. The resorts employees are very nice and nothing is too much trouble, but this isn't New York or Hong Kong, so one has to be patient. The food was great and prices seemed very reasonable. There is wifi available all over the resort. The infinity pool was in top condition with a wonderful view; a few steps away is a narrow sandy beach. I didn't try the spa and there is no gym. Guests seemed to be a mix of German, French, Brits and Australians. If you never been to Koh Samui before, let me also mention that in my opinion its a better bet than Bali as its infrastructure is better and the joy of using its excellent little airport alone (versus Bali's re-run of the 1990's TV show Jeux Sans Frontières) makes it a welcoming start to your visit.

Room tip: Ask for a room near to pool area, as some of the rooms are a few minutes walk away.

I have stayed at a similar concept hotel in Gili island near Bali. This hotel can offer a serene experience for those who cherish quietness and privacy. The room is a complete villa with tropic-outdoor-oriented amenities. Where I stayed I have slept three most supreme nights of my entire trip to Thailand – if you are a sole traveler then you really need to enjoy being alone to enjoy this hotel. The place is quiet and it echoes people’s talks especially around the pool area.

The cons are that I got to hear my next door neighbors’ chatting sometimes, which was not convenient. The families at the great-view pool area struggled to keep their children quite but it was a bit annoying. The pool can be a bit too crowded.

The food was OK and the staff was the usual Thai-style friendly type. The beach is extended where you can walk for one hour or so, it was what I needed. The hotel is close to a ferry port and I believe that water can be a bit polluted. I think it was pleasure to stay there.
