While holidaying on Gozo, one of Malta's sister islands, we visited the Farmhouse Gallery in Zebbug, after a recommendation from a Gozitan family. We contacted the artist, Joerg Boettcher and were invited to visit. As the gallery is in the artist's farmhouse home, we intended to stay only a short time, just to view his photographs and paintings but eventually stayed some time to have a glass of wine too! The farmhouse was built in the 1400's and would have been originally inhabited by a farming family. With its flower filled courtyard and beamed ceilings, it is a beautiful setting for his art work. Joerg is German, speaking impeccable English and he told us that he had lived on Gozo for over 20 years. His work certainly captures the brilliant colours of the island. Later, we purchased a photograph and a small painting, as we had to transport it home to the UK. We often visit galleries in London and the paintings are usually out of our price range so we greatly enjoyed being able to buy a piece of original, affordable art, for we are not weallthy! See the Farmhouse Gallery website for a flavour of Joerg's work and his details.
