“We Got What We Paid For.... Cheap and Cheerful :)”
Reviewed August 5, 2009

After reading the reviews of this hotel, we both thought "Oh dear lord what have we done", but, from the minute we arrived we knew that the negative reviews were over exaggerated. Yes the pool was small, but, we were aware of this from the pictures on the net... if we wanted a larger pool, we would have booked a hotel with a larger pool... its no use moaning about it when you were the person who booked the holiday!

As for the service, it was excellent! All members of staff, from the cleaner to the hotel manager were extremely friendly, the service cannot be faulted. The maid came to our room everyday, and we saw her cleaning other rooms on a daily basis too, always with a smile, bless her! Our room was fantastic, much better than we expected! it was spacious, with lots of storage space and the views were incredible, we could see the sea from our window! The location of the hotel cannot be faulted either, the beach was literally 2minutes away, and it was about a 5-10minutes walk to Dolphin Square, the heart of Altinkums nightlife! This was perfect for us, as we werent located in the heart of the hustle and bustle, and it provided us with the quiet base we wanted. We paid for the aircon facility, I don't think we could have coped without it to be honest!

We were only bed and breakfast, so cannot comment on the evening meals, the turkish breakfast was lovely though, and very fresh! i must admit i did miss a full english, but, as they say 'WHEN IN ROME', it was nice to beable to experience their culture! The service at the bar was great too, as were the snacks they provided! they offered a wide range of drinks, with many english spirits available.

The best part of the hotel has to be the friendly staff, they were all willing to give you a hand with anything, and more than willing to have a chat with you! Really, there isn't anything that we can complain about after our stay at the Delta, and the evidence for that would be that we are looking to book again!

In all honesty, if you are looking for a holiday where you are based at the hotel, then i probably wouldnt reccommend the Delta due to the size of the pool, but if you are looking for a holiday in Altinkum, then I would :)

We had paid a bit extra when booking to upgrade to a better room but what we got extra was a sea view as all the rooms are the same with half looking inland at another hotel 3metres away but at least ours on the front side of the hotel and could see a bit of sea and beach. The room was 2.5m x 4.5m including the shower and toilet plus a small balcony. The furnature ie. a bedside table, vanity unit, fitted wardrobe were very homemade and painted a dull brown.
The shower was a fixed head and 50% of times had hot water otherwise cold ! and you could never guess what time to shower as it was totally random. To be fair you would expect a room like this in a UK Hostel.
The swimming pool was 2.5m x 7m x 2m deep but so murky you could'nt see the bottom
and the staff every now and again threw in handfulls of chemicals that did'nt make any difference.
We made the mistake of staying half board, the cook had done his best on a budget of i would guess of less than £1 per head ,and to be fair the food was cooked ok, but with one small meat ration served by a staff member to stop you taking to much and then they even started ration serving the chips which we only had 3 times in 2 weeks, the rest of the food was sometimes rice and strange Turkish salads, no soup or desert ever except red watermelon for breakfast and dinner, the breakfast was hard boiled eggs, nescafe, nice bread , jam, tomatos, cuecumber, Turkish salad and what looked like small round slices of Spam.
We had to pay £45 for aircon plus £20 safe deposit for two weeks , the aircon was £30 for one week !
The Delta is kept clean by one poor maid who tries her best and we did not have a problem with cleanliness , its in a good position surrounded by bars and restaurants and 250m walk to the beach.
The best thing about the Hotel were the staff, they could not do enough for you , with always a smile and warm word.
We felt we got what we paid for as we booked a few days before on the internet and it was a last minute cheapo costing just over £720 for 2 of us half board including flights, tranfers and the other bits and pieces they tack on, over the last 2 weeks of July 09, but i would not have felt so forgiving if we had spent any more !
I have tried to be objective and if you have already booked don't worry it's not the hotel from hell, but i'm afraid we won't be going back.

Hotel very grubby (the pool especially so) and rooms not very clean. Our shower hose was broken with a plastic carrier bag tied round it to supposedly stop it spraying everywhere (very ineffectual). We asked several times if they could fix it to no avail. The breakfast was the cheapest ingredients, so glad we didn't go half board as the evening meal looked awful. Some of the staff were very nice however one of the male receptionists in particular was very off hand. The Turkish guests were given different food from the kitchen, it looked better quality. Wouldn't stay in this hotel again. On a good note the hotel was nicely situated and the resort was lovely with the Buzz Bar on the seafront being very friendly and good fun in the evenings. The beaches were absolutely packed and it was supposed to be quiet! I've been to Turkey before and was disappointed that there weren't more traditional shops or perhaps a bazar. I would return to the resort, avoiding this Hotel at all costs.

I can only echo the last three reviews - this really is an appalling bad hotel. We arrived at 4.30am and the only reason I didn’t cry was that I was so glad to be lying down after a two-hour trip from the airport! The rooms are tiny, with a small old shower and toilet; the balcony is also tiny with no room for a table – we also had a dodgy lock on ours meaning we were locked out twice and had to shout for help! The balcony was also permanently soaking wet due to a constant drip from the fan , meaning if a towel was unlucky enough to fall off the chair where it was drying it would be instantly wringing wet! Our ‘view’ was straight out onto a brick wall, although I think the other side of the hotel had better views. The Delta is also the first hotel I have ever stayed in that did not have a TV in each room – I missed this more than I thought I would over the two weeks I was there. The air conditioning is good, but relatively expensive at £20 per week. The beds were uncomfortable, and the sheets and towels were stained – this wouldn’t be so bad if they hadn’t put a stroppy notice on the wall saying that any towels ‘damaged’ by leaving them on the bathroom floor (?!) would not be replaced, AND we would be charged! Double whammy! Our room was cleaned 3 times in two weeks – there is only one cleaner to look after 35-odd rooms and she looked permanently exhausted, poor lady. Honestly, I don’t think these rooms would pass for youth hostels in the UK, let alone a three star hotel.

And the food was even worse. The format changed from the set meal previously described to a ‘buffet’ style half way through our first week. This sounds good, but wasn’t – it was all traditional Turkish food with no explanation of what it was, and some of it was foul, although some dishes were quite nice. The breakfast had been described before; it was poor and extremely repetitive, and it wouldn’t cost them that much to provide a couple of boxes of cereal, surely. We stopped eating at the hotel after we both got food poisoning after one dinner – we had eaten out as well so I can’t say for sure that it was the hotel, but I suspect that it was. They also held a ‘Turkish night’ at £20 a head – when we said we didn’t want to attend (we made the right decision, it was just a few people dancing with some loud music and normal hotel food), there didn’t seem to be an option for just having the normal half-board dinner – it was pay up or nothing! We had already paid for half board for crying out loud! The pool was tiny, but I actually quite liked it as it was lovely and warm, and great for chilling – however it got a little crowded when more than two people got in!

On to more positive stuff. The staff are indeed very friendly (to your face at least) and the hotel is in a lovely location. There are lots of nice restaurants nearby – the place over the road was our favourite, doing a great English breakfast for 6.50 lira, about £2. The Pelican Bar is also lovely – we were given our dinner for free there on our first night to ‘welcome us to Turkey’. The Turkish people are friendly and kind on the whole. The beach is just 5 minutes away, and there are bars along the front with their own swimming pools and sun loungers etc, that you can use for free if you buy a drink.

Altinkum is a lovely place for a holiday – just don’t stay at the Delta!

The hotel dose not cater for us Brits, is was full of Turks and we treat second class compered to them. The hotel its self is disgusting and very dirty. the pool which is about 1.5 meters by 4 meters had a film on the top of the water, the breakfast was horrible and the room is the worst I've Eva stayed in. Electrical sockets had no covers over them the bed was held upright by an old wooden bread box, carpets were dirty and the bathroom hadn't been cleaned in a very long time. We had to be moved in the end to a new hotel, couldn't put up with it any longer. A 3 Star hotel it aint! My advice: KEEP AWAY!

I cried when we got there and were shown to our room. The room was shabby, sheets and towels were grubby, i covered my pillow with one of my beach towels before i went to bed, i could'nt have slept on that pillow. The door knob on the door was so loose that once we could'nt open the door, not good if there was a fire and the lift kept on getting stuck. Not sure about the owners, don't think they were genuinely nice, the staff however were. location is really good, close to the beach. Would go back to Altinkum but not to the Delta.
