“fantastic holiday! :)”
Reviewed November 5, 2013

Stayed at the Palm wings for a week in October. The weather all week was great, not a cloud in the sky. Colder in the evening.

When we arrived it was through the night, pretty quick check in though. We have one child but decided to up grade to a bungalow, closer to the pool and no balcony(safer) just a small terrace. We had to pay extra but felt it was worth it. The room was ok, beds hard. In need of a refurb I felt and the shower room was shabby. Shower leaked so towels down every time :( Clean towels every day and beds made. Water in the fridge.

The pool area and bars were great, clean and always sunbeds. The flumes were open 10-12 then 2-4pm. Kids loved that( and the adults) haha.. music played around the pool and entertainment too if you wanted to get involved. Clean towel change if you wish everyday, you receive towel cards per person when you arrive. Save you taking your own.. bonus.

The main restaurant was quite big, wasn't a fan of this, quite noisy. However always a large selection of starters and mains from the buffet islands. Deserts were also good. There was a grill outside too doing Doner meat, fish etc.. Very friendly staff, helpful hard working and great with the kids. Clean. They did theme nights which was good to see. They have a la carte restaurants too which are Chinese, Turkish, Italian, and seafood. You get to use one free per week. I wouldn't bother again if I went back, When you book it a day or two in advance through reception you have to choose your food there and then.. annoying who knows a day before what they would like to eat? not me! The service was slow and food was rubbish. We ate out twice in Altinkum which is about a 20 min walk away, nice few restaurants if you like a change from buffet. There is also a snack bar and crepes, ice cream etc through out the day.. you wont starve.

Entertainment every night at the amp theatre located near the beach area, staff worked hard and put on good shows each night, funny. Started at 9.30pm Also a beach disco which I would imagine would be great earlier in season but too cold in October. Most people headed inside at 11pm and there was music on in there, DJ. Bar open till whenever.. we left at 3am one morning and was still open :)

The beach area was beautiful and clean, lovely relaxing bathing platforms, plenty beds and a jetty where you could try out various water sports, banana boat, sofa bed, all to be paid separately but brilliant fun. Loved that!

The Spa was brilliant, had hot stone massage. Was amazing.

Great shops to have a rake around, 20 min walk away, plenty replica pieces to be had. :)

On our last day we had a check out of 12 noon even though or coach pick up wasn't until 10pm. We opted for a late check out which ment we could have the room till 6pm. we paid £32. The staff were adamant they would not let us keep on the room free of charge even though it was end of season and they were closing the following day, and we had arrived through the night in the first place.. Ridiculous to expect people with children to leave rooms at 12noon, pack and feel you are loosing your last day. Then only have a courtesy room for a quick wash, this really infuriates me with Turkey holidays, the flight times are rubbish!

Overall the holiday was great, and the sun was out all week, and my daughter had a ball, what matters the most!!

Our group of 8 stayed at palm wings for the last 2 weeks in october. After reading some really bad reviews before going we were quite worried. Can honestly say it was the best 2 weeks holiday ever. To start with check in was quick and simple, then golf buggy took us to our rooms which were in the hotel block. Rooms were basic but had everything you needed. Beach was lovely. Food was amazing, with a big variety. Restaurant staff were lovely, big shout out to abdul who was very friendly and helpful. The variety of drinks was more then enough. Bar staff speak very good english and were very good fun. Even after doing a 12 hour shift. Animation team were FANTASTIC. Dont have a bad word to say about them. Plenty of activities during the day ranging from darts to volleyball to water aerobics. Kids disco at night was good fun and evening entertainment was hilarious. After a whole 2 weeks there it was home time for our party of 8 but after having such a fantastic time 2 of us decided to stay a big longer. The Reps couldnt have been anymore helpful in helping us re-book rooms, flights and tranfers. Even with it being end of seson and a bit quieter we wouldnt change anything about our holiday. It just wouldnt have been the same without the Animation team Taylor, A lee, Ahmet, Camel and DjRedvvhite. Cant wait to return next summer. Will definitely recommend this place to family and friends.

We are a family of 2 adults, 2 children (4&8) and we stayed at palm wings for 2 weeks from 14th October.

Flight and transfer all good. Check in was pretty speedy too. We were taken to our room (bungalow room) in a golf buggy as it was about 3am by this time. Room was quite small but adequate. A double bed, bunk beds, en-suite bathroom with shower and a small balcony with table and chairs.

The maid service was fantastic and rooms were cleaned really well with fresh towels everyday.

The food was great. Can't believe some people were complaining about it! Something for everyone and plenty of choice. Yes it does get repetitive but I imagine dining at any restaurant for 14 nights consecutively would do. Fresh cooking outside was good and some lovely things cooked here.

Breakfasts were great with freshly cooked croissants, freshly cooked American pancakes, eggs, beans, sausages, definitely recommend the omelette man. He makes them fresh with your requested ingredients and they were lovely!

Also look out for Abdul the waiter - he was great!

The ice cream was lovely as we're the gozleme (Turkish pancake) that were cooked fresh by the pool everyday.

The pool was brilliant and great fun with the slides, although it was icy cold even at the end of the season. Yes it is slippy, but if you take it carefully and don't run, generally all ok. Getting sun beds was never an issue whatever time you tried.

The beach here was absolutely stunning and is a real gem. It is a lovely little sun trap, with rarely any breeze. The sand is lovely, the sea is stunning and lovely and warm! It does get very hot due to there being no breeze, but that's a good thing!

Animation team were a real let down. If the entertainment on your holiday is the be all and end all, then palm wings would be a no go as it was pretty much non existent. The kids mini disco was great, and the Thomson kids club was fantastic (Gary, Jordan & Lanya). Our 2 loved going just to get out of the sun a bit and it really was a saviour.

There is a bit of an issue with wasps around the bars, but they don't seem to sting, nobody we knew of had been stung whilst we were there. However they really should get it sorted as doesn't seem fair to the barmen. Maybe this is why they're all so miserable?!

On our last weekend of our stay, there was a conference in the conference centre. There were about 400 delegates that were using the hotels facilities as well as dining in the restaurant. The delegates were from a Turkish university and were so rude and arrogant! Even bar and waiting staff were fed up of them being loud, rearranging tables in the restaurant etc. it also meant that the restaurant was extremely busy at meal times, with large queues, bodies everywhere, and just a bit manic and stressful. it didn't ruin our holiday by any means, but it did make us question whether or not the hotel was suitable for hosting guests and conference delegates all at the same time.

The photo centre from the hotel is great. They get some really beautiful pictures and some great mementos to bring home. Engin took our pictures for us and was great.

Overall we had a great holiday. The weather was perfect (apart from 1 stormy day) and the hotel and food was lovely. If entertainment is a must for you then probably not the place for you. I'm also not sure that we would have enjoyed our holiday quite as much if we had gone in high season and the hotel was fuller. It is a huge place and I can imagine in high season it being very busy with lots of bodies!

Pools and waterchutes were great, apart from being way too slippery even with the mats. I saw many people fall and get hurt, including me!
Bars were fine. Pool/bar games good too.
Food was nice but a bit repetitive. I'd never done all inclusive before though. I think it would be fine for 7-10 days but not 14.
The hotels beach was really nice, as were the staff, especially the kids club.
The room was ok but the villas look better.
Overall a nice holiday. I doubt we'll be going back though as we've had better.

We took a late October holiday to Turkey and stayed at the Palm Wings Resort on a package deal with Thomson. First thing to say is that its an excellent place to stay with amazing views across the Aegean. For late October the weather was still amazing. Not one cloud and scorching hot all week :) As it was near end of season the place was not heaving with people but was still busy.

The resort was well spaced out with good facilities all over. Our apartments were spacious and clean, however the shower unit was a bit cramped and the bed was also quite hard and became a bit uncomfortable after a few days. We also had an ant problem in the bathroom but this didn't really bother us. We could also hear quite a bit of noise through the walls for the people next door and as our room was located close to the pool, we also could hear all the late night music and noise until the early hours. There is also an on-site shopping centre which in reality goes against trade description as its just 3 shops - a jewellers, convenience store and gift shop.

There is a massive Pool with water slides (we didn't use this) and also a games room for kids as well as a kids club (not used either), an indoor pool and other leisure / sport activities across the site (also not used) - We just spent every day at the beach :)

There is a large restaurant serving typical buffet style food at mealtimes, with snack bars or cafes serving either hot food or sandwiches at other times - and somewhere there is always a bar open serving beer or soft drinks Cocktails however can only be obtained from the pool bar which is a bit annoying if your down by the beach as there is a large amount of steps to climb to get back to the resort. A quick word about the all inclusive - make sure you stick to the "list" that is "displayed" at the bar (I use the terms loosely) - as this will result in you being called a liar by the hotel manager when you dispute a charge for ordering a drink from the other menu after being told its all free!!

The food, as appears to be the case in most places in Turkey, is a bit hit-and-miss. Plentiful but often a bit bland and lacking in taste. Make sure you check out the outside grill where they tend to do the better food - but a word of warning: Stay away from the A-la-carte restaurants as they were terrible - we were one of at least two families who "did a runner" from their fish restaurant that evening as the food was dire - even though it was free!!! The Chinese wasn't Chinese and Italian wasn't really Italian either - or at least not what you might get in the UK.

The beach was great with plenty of loungers, there is also a pier with even more loungers so room for loads of people. Water sports are also available and we tried the sofa and also Jetski - all at reasonable prices in TLira.

The town of Altinkum is only about 15-20 mins walk away with plenty of bars and restaurants and shops selling the usual designer fakes. Take English cash and exchange it in the local shop there as you get the better exchange rates - 3.1TL to the £ while we were there and banks were offering 2.6 etc.

All-in-all a great place - but room for improvements to make it even better.

Room Tip: Rooms away from the pool / shopping centre will be quieter in the evenings/night.

Just arrived home from two weeks at Palm Wings this place has good and bad points to be honest ...... we were staying in the hotel block avoid this at all costs if you don't want to be kept up all night the noise in this place is horrendous ! also its a massive walk to the pool , entertainment and restaurant, if you have young children or struggle to walk avoid staying here. The place is huge ! far too big for us as you lose that personal touch the restaurant staff are lovely well the ones who talk to you Abdul was fantastic ! the food is not particularly great we ate out a few times as the childrens menu consisted of chips, burger chicken nuggets and spag bol every meal time ! The adult meals were not fantastic either and both myself and my partner suffered from Turkish tummy ......forget the al a carte meal they offer you as it is too basic for words and its literally thrown at you ! The food here is more than repetitive. Bar staff treat you as if you don't exist and the entertainment staff well if you are in with them then they tend to only look after the people that are the same age as them. That brings me on to the Thomson staff I cannot praise enough the staff at kids club absolutely fantastic Gary, Landy and Jordan made this holiday for my little girl ! The Thomson reps are another story ........you see them at the start then that's it ! they make no effort to walk round or anything they book you on trips and then change dates etc and one trip we booked on was the family cruise believe me don't bother our child is 5 and we were basically sold it being told our child would be kept busy all day with activities this is not the case half an hour out of a 6 hour boat trip if you are lucky the kids were bored to death ! The cleaning staff are lovely and go out of there way to speak to you and the guy in the jewellery shop was lovely as well. On our return we were picked up from our hotel by a rep then basically left to go to the airport with the coach driver ! on an hur and a half transfer in the middle of the night I don't feel is acceptable our driver narrowly missed hitting a dog then hit fog and slammed the breaks on if we would have had an accident heaven knows what we would have done with a driver that speaks little English in the middle of no where ! Same old entertainment every night same old songs every night at mini disco they could really do with mixing it up for people as the entertainment is all based outside so take a jacket if going in October as it drops very cold. Overall would I go back ........the answer would be no its a lovely hotel in lovely surroundings but too much other stuff lets this place down, improve the food, staff attitude ( Turkish entertainment and bar staff ) mix the pool music up and change around the entertainment nights and you could have a gold mine !

Room Tip: Book a bungalow ! also the majority of the rooms in the hotel block do not have a balcony.

Returned from turkey 3 days ago after spending 2 weeks there with my husband and 2yr old daughter. Was a bit worried before going after reading bad reviews but I couldn't agree with 1 of them! Our room was always clean, some of the food was cooked in front of you so don't know how anyone can say it's cold. Staff were always very friendly and our reps holly and Laura were lovely and very helpful. We had a great time and planning on going back.
