“Beautiful Holiday Destination”
Reviewed June 26, 2013

We have just spent a week at the Palm Wings Beach Resort with a large group of friends and their children ages between 2 and 11. First impressions after a very long journey and early start were very positive. We were given cold fruit juice in reception while checking in which was welcome as it was about 36 degrees outside. The bungalow rooms were good, very clean, but twin beds not the double we expected. The pools are all fantastic with lots of sunbeds, go to the adults only pool if you want some peace. There are also sunbeds on the beach and the large jetty. We thought the food was great, so much choice, they dont really do 'full english breakfast' but you are in Turkey and they did offer eggs scrambled and boiled and some sort of sausage. Drinks are plentiful and there are place that you can help yourself to water, juices and hot drinks pretty much all the time. The only criticism is the evening entertainment by the Pool Bar - it was dire ! On two evenings the entertainment team did some singing which was great but really short and the nightclub music is a bit dire too.

Amazing hotel, kept spotlessly clean.
The animation team keep you entertained morning, afternoon and in to the evening they deserve a medal. The pool staff and restaurant staff work like dogs especial Abdul in the restaurant he was great always happy and pleased to help.. Beach was nice yes there are a few steps down to it but once your down there no need to come back, there’s a bar and restaurant there too. You hear some people complain about plastic cups around the pool so what, better that than broken glass and come the evening and in the restaurant you do get glass cups. The hotel is only a short walk away from Didim which we did a couple of times but didn’t enjoy the shop owners and restaurant owners were to pushy to come into their shops/bars etc. been to other areas in Turkey and this was by far the worst we’ve experienced.

Only a few bad point which I think I should mention.
Food in the restaurant isn’t great a bit bland and cold but my wife’s a chef so probably used to her cooking so they could do with a Micro wave just to give the food a zap if needed. This hotel is also popular with Turkish holiday makers so be aware there rude and they eat everything in site and keep an eye on your inflatables they will take them.

So yes I would go to this hotel again but I would transport it to Hisaronu Turkey where the restaurants are better, the trips are better and the locals will open you with open arms and won’t try to rip you off the first chance you get.

Stayed at The Palm Wings from 06/06 till 20/06/2013,

This is my very honest opinion of this resort section by section.....

Beach...84 steps down to the beach but there is a walkway which is very steep, beach very shingle with stones.
Good water sports, protected cove, no hawker's, plenty of sunbeds and beach bar.

Swimming Pool...stunning big pool but only one depth 1.5 metre but there is a baby pool, 3 water slides open twice a day, plenty of sunbeds very close together, free beach and pool towels, good pool bar also used at evening's, free ice cream and snack's by the pool every afternoon....but by far the worst part of this area is the slippery floors...parts of the pool has mats but still very very slippery so beware....there is a quite pool up the hill for over 18's which also is slippery. The rule of the hotel is ....No saved sunbeds before 9 am but this rule is not upheld so get there early.

Dining/Food... area's inside and out very clean the outside area as a wonderful view, but the dining area can get very very busy, food very good with show cooking but long queues for this, self service for tea coffee and cold drinks..., very noisy with children running around and crying babies.

Shopping /Spa...good shops selling everything just a bit dearer....photo shop friendly and good.

Accommodation....We had a Bungalow ...first bungalow we asked to be moved as crying child next door cried all night...the manager kindly moved us saying this was a family hotel. Bungalow was clean with free air con and safe, good bathroom ....very thin wall so you hear everything.

Reception....Is up the hill near the hotel flats so never used it.

Gardens and Grounds kept very clean.

Staff...In general very friendly.

Palm Wings...I would not recommend this Hotel to singles or couples with no children because of the amount of children and babies and you can't get away from the crying also the infirm would fine it difficult because of the hills and steps as it is built on a cliff ...there are hotel buggy's but just try getting one either all booked or busy.

We had a brilliant 11 days here in June. Our room was spacious and spotless. The maids patiently cleaned up after us every day and changed bedding and towels daily, leaving fresh flowers. The bungalows were nice and close to the amenities but far enough away nt to be bothered by the noise of the entertainment. The food was lovely and staff could not do enough to help. The swimming pools and slides were well received by my eldest son and the baby enjoyed the toddler pool. The beach was lovely and made a nice change from the pool. Altinkum was a short walk away with plenty to see and do...some nice playgrounds and beaches and restaurants for a change of scene. We visited Ephesus and the Saturday markets which are both well worth a trip! I can't really comment on the entertainment as it started too late for the kids to stay up although my eldest did attend the Thomson kids club. He seemed to enjoy it but some of the sessions are payable, but still very reasonable. We would certainly go back and recommend it to anyone.

Travelled to the Palm Wings Resort on the 6th of June for 1 week with our 10 year old son.

On the whole the holiday was really enjoyable and relaxing. The Bungalow 1642 was lovely and clean and the grounds were beautiful and really well maintained.

I must agree with a prevoius reviewer I found the service from the Thomson Rep less than overwelming and we were also told that there were insufficient children to run the Tribe Club 9-11 year olds. It appeared that the Rep was actively discouraging kids from turning up for this session. Our son, unsuprisingly, declined their offer to join the younger children. It became evident that there were more than enough children in the resort of this age group and I got the distinct impression that the Rep and the Kids Club staff had cooked up a plan to have a couple of hours off on an afternoon. This was annoying as the Tribe Club had been a factor we considered when booking the resort. There was no attempt by kids club staff to come around and encourage children to join in as we have seen at other resorts. My did make a group of friends around the pool but we would have liked to sample the spa and would have used the time he was in kids club to do so.

1642 was a standard bungalow room (one double one single bed) was conveniently located just off the central path and far enough away from the pool and bars to also be quiet. The air conditioning was efficient and controlled independently. The only negative thing I would say about the rooms is the top sheets are made of a waffle type material which we didn't find very comfortable and the beds were also really firm which made it difficult to lie on your side! However, we asked for extra flat sheets via the Rep. (phoning reception wasn't sucessful, I'm not sure we were understood) and these were supplied quickly. Although there's loads of hanging space if you have room push in a couple of hangers as some of ours were broken and had to manage with half a dozen between us. We did have a problem where the shower hose broke and someone was at the room within 10 minutes to fix it, we were very impressed.

We had a difference of opinion over the food in the hotel. My husband and son preferred Palm Wings to the Kefaluka Resort which we visited last year. There was more grilled meat available from the outside grill area and chips were always on the menu. I preferred the food at the other resort which had a better choice of salads and fresh fruits. All meals were in the buffet restaurant which could be a bit like a school dinner hall, however, we chose to eat outside on the balcony all time which had lovely views and wasn't quite as noisy.

We did have a meal at the Italian A la Carte which was very enjoyable and more civilised than the buffet. The service was excellent and a guitar player entertained us throughout. There were a lot of courses and we were really full at the end! The staff in the a la carte were great with families. Our son asked if he could change the usual main couse accompaniments which they did and another family asked for a break mid meal to get their baby to sleep which also wasn't a problem.

The entertainment was mainly provided by the animation team who had loads of energy and enthusiasm. To be honest we quite enjoyed it and constisted of mainly daft competitions like Mr Palm Wings, Generation Game etc; although the performance of Shrek the musical left a lot to be desired. We left after 10 minutes as did most of the audience. Apparently there is a good professional circus show on a Thursday but we missed this due to the timing of our flights.

The pool is beautiful however, bear in mind that most of the pool is about 1.5m deep and I was out of my depth (5' 2" tall) as was my son. He is quite a strong swimmer but please take bouyancy aids if your children aren't. Our son really enjoyed the slides which are available 10-12 and then 2-4 each day. The area around the pool is incredibly slippery when wet. Some matting had been put down to try to aleviate the problem but I did slip and fall when trying to get around the pool to my sunbed and I was being very cautious. Some have commented that the pool is freezing but this was not the case in June. It can feel cold at first after lying in 90 degrees but is perfect after a couple of minutes.

There are loads of sunbeds although they are a bit close together for my liking. Ignore the rule about not putting towels on beds before 9am. Everyone else does, you do need to be down early if you want to get a bed in a particular place i.e. in the two small areas where the pool is shallower. The towel kiosk opens at 9am but people had their own towels or kept them from the previous day to bag their beds before 9am.

There can be queues for the freshly baked croissants, omlettes, ice cream, etc.so I think you need to just go with this mindset. I have only been all inclusive twice and didn't have to queue last year, however, it was earlier in the season and the resort we were in was was quieter than Palm Wings.

Didn't appear to be much of note in Altinkum, we went to the Saturday Market which we enjoyed. My hubbie walkied into the town one afternoon but wasn't impressed although there were plently of restaurants and bars if you fancied a change of scenery.

If you have a late flight and either don't want to pay the €30 the hotel asks for to keep on the room or are unable to keep on your rooms due to high occupancy you can spend the day at the pool/beach then get showered at the changing rooms for the indoor pool located at the main hotel. Lockers, showers, sinks and towels are available and the hotel is also happy for you to keep hold of your towel cards after checking out at 12 so long as you hand them in before getting on the bus to go home!

On the whole a really good value family holiday. We would all go back.

Room Tip: Ask for a room near the main path but not too close to the pool/bars if you want a quiet room. Think...

Stayed for 1 week in June 2013 as a family of 2 adults and 1 11 year old boy. We stayed in bungalow 1749 which was a family bunk bed room with one king size bed and bunk beds. The room was spacious, comfortable and spotless with maid service everyday to a high standard with daily bedding and towel changes. The room wasn't too far away from the resort services but was never the less quietly situated and didn't suffer from any daytime or night time noise issues. As previously reported by other reviewers, the pool area is slippery, but they now have placed a matting walkway around the edge of the pools, which has improved the safety situation, but you still need to be careful. We found the main buffet restaurant to be excellent, with a great selection of freshly prepared food and really couldn't fault any of the meal services. The staff were friendly and obliging and this also applied to the bar service and the reception staff. It's a short walk (10 min) to the Antinkum resort proper (as the hotel is situated outside the main resort) and there you will find a selection of beaches, a marina, shops and restaurants/ bars. So the hotel is actually well situated, although it is a long drag from Bodrum airport (1 1/2 hours - not helped by extensive road works along the route).

We travelled with Thomson (Regular customer, although not acknowledged as such) and the reps were OK, not great, not bad. Bit underwhelmed by them actually. We attempted to sign our 11 year old son into the Thomson kids club (Tribe 9-11) only to be advised that there weren't enough children of that age group, so that the only option was to join the younger children as a merged session. We felt they could have done a lot more to encourage children in the 9-11 age group, because they were clearly present in the resort. Our son declined to join the younger children and met some friends in the resort and enjoyed himself in the pool, waterslides and games room. The entertainment at night was too late i.e. typically either 10 or 11pm start and was of a poor standard. But 11pm is in any case too late for families with young children.

Overall we would recommend this resort as it's well run, spotlessly clean with good facilities apart from the entertainment. The weather, by the way, was fantastic!

Room Tip: Bungalows are the way to go. If you travel with kids, take plenty of money for the games room. (PS...
