I booked my stay with Drago Apartmani prior to discovering any reviews about it - and once i had i was anxious to say the least!
I corresponded with the owner through email a lot, so learnt very early on that his English is less than basic. I confirmed numbers of people in email, we booked the 8 person room for 8 people and a twin room for 2.. which i would reccomend re-itterating after reading some recent reviews. Our plane was very delayed so two of our group flying from a different airport arrived much earlier than us who were in the two person room, but the owner insisted they were in the larger room. When the rest of us arrived, as soon as i showed him the booking confirmation and he saw how many of us there were he immediately confirmed the twin room - i think as it was during festival period he had to be careful that he was going to get stitched up perhaps? Anyway, no problems once we had arrived.
The rooms were excellent. They were clean, there were sheets on each bed, the kitchen was full of utensils to cater for ourselves, there was a dish washer with plenty of tablets for the week, they had supplied each room with mosquito plug ins and a few satchets to get us started for the holiday. The twin room had a bathroom attached to it, only divided by a curtain which may have been a bit uncomfortable at times.. but you get what you pay for and really it wasn't too bad. There were no towels in the apartment which i clued up on with a previous review before leaving - but I do not think that is such a big deal. The only thing that let the rooms down in my eyes is that at no point during the 6 night stay, did they come in and clean the rooms or change the sheets. I would have expected that at least once, but given that the rest of the apartments were full of groups of teenagers causing havoc all through the pm and am - i can sort of see why they didn't bother.
The position of the apartments was perfect. It was about a 20 minute walk from the festival site at Hotel Pinija up a slight hill, with wonderful views of the water. The aparments were situated very close to the restaurants in Petrcane and if you took the road opposite it lead you to the other side of the beach which was much quieter.
The owners were definitely not the most hospitable people i have come across, but i found that if you were nice to them, they were just as nice back. I think the real issue is the language barrier - but Petrcane is still quite an up and coming place so i'm sure that will improve with future seasons.
All in all i would reccomend Drago Apartmani if you're looking for a budget place to stay with a good location. Oh, and take insect repellant! Every sort you can find.. they are fiesty little sods in Croatia! But you can't really blame the apartments for that..
